I feel like you double-crossed yourself a few times in this article.
Proctors actions were a weird one-off, but so were Townsends. I dont think Townsend has ever been suspended until now.
And yeah you can say Townsend had intent to hurt, but if you bite someone how is that not intent to hurt??
I also dont recall Inglis jumping into Dean Youngs head in THAT tackle, I actually recall Dean Young being dragged down from behind hence why Inglis hit him in the head

Chad Townsend's punishment is manifestly inadequate

Well if most of the population is in NSW and QLD then is it fair to say that League is more popular than AFL in Australia?? 😉

AFL fans have just one reason to be jealous of our NRL cousins

Top rated in the country!
Why did Perth sell out if no one cares?? Why will Adelaide sell out??

AFL fans have just one reason to be jealous of our NRL cousins

Oh okay, sorry i didnt realise that top-rating programs mean its non-existent.

AFL fans have just one reason to be jealous of our NRL cousins

No but if you read my comment and what im replying to you will see it fits in with that

AFL fans have just one reason to be jealous of our NRL cousins

Non-existent outside QLD and NSW is a very ignorant, one-sided view to have. Do the PNG people not count because its a third world country?? Tonga just had a public holiday last year for beating Australia but thats because they dont care, right?? Yeah its not that big in England but then again 75,000 poms watched Australia play New Zealand a while back. Yeah its easy to compare Soccer fans in England to League fans in England and the numbers would be massively in soccers favour, but then again we can also compare the numbers of League fans to AFL fans in England, shall we do that?? But hey, you keep chipping away at that Chinese market, maybe you can play a hybrid AFL-Badmington game after the legendary AFL-Gaelic match that is the ‘envy’ of all rivalries…

AFL fans have just one reason to be jealous of our NRL cousins

I think you read a little too deep into a sarcastic comment mate. I would love to know how it makes me sound insecure though
Please elaborate

Let's hope the Sydney derby bragging rights are settled on the pitch

You must be fun at parties Nick Symonds!

Let's hope the Sydney derby bragging rights are settled on the pitch

Agree! When i watched it live i didnt see the towel get thrown in the ring i just saw the ref stop it. Even though i was going for Fury i didnt even cheer as i thought the ref stopped it too soon. I was not happy at all haha but now i can see it was Wilders corner

The Gypsy King remains on his throne

Oh! My apologies. my radar wasnt blipping for that one ill have to get it fixed!

Flanagan to make Roosters debut in WCC

Im not denying that it was a 40 degree day im just make a joke out of the fact you said the reason for that is climate change (unless you were being sarcastic?)

Flanagan to make Roosters debut in WCC

A 40 degree day in an Australian summer?? That cant be right, surely that never happens…..
It MUST be climate change, why else would a country that is predominately desert have a 40 degree day…

Flanagan to make Roosters debut in WCC

They call it that just to annoy Paul from The Roar.
Looks like they succeeded!

Flanagan to make Roosters debut in WCC

Yes!
My god Yes. I have been advocating for this for ages how good would it be. Maybe throw Basketball in the mix and i feel cricket should be an ODI. I know that doesnt fit in well with the schedule but maybe have that on the Thursday night as a standalone event?? Definitely feel like Basketball should be included

The next step in the Australia-England sporting rivalry

Because as i have mentioned time and time again AFL is a different game and time and time again i have mentioned we have tried taking games to big stadiums yet time and time again people (Sydneysiders) dont turn up. I hear people whinge all the time that its a pain to get to homebush so why take games there?? I remember seeing the Bulldogs v Cowboys there this year and a whopping crowd of 6,000 turned up. What a night that was and how good it looked to! 6,000 at an 80K stadium. Stop ignoring the fact that we have been trying for years yet the statistics have shown it doesnt work regardless of your opinion. I know im comparing a different demographic but youre comparing to an entirely different sport

Where will the NRL be in ten years?

Different country yes but different sport?? Cmon youre trying to compare it to the AFL and you think its a stretch comparing Rugby Union because its a different sport haha well lets look closer to home. NZ average smaller crowds than the NRL and they take their union just as seriously as Melbournians take their AFL. Eden Park is always empty when the Blues play. Maybe because they are playing in a massive stadium??

Where will the NRL be in ten years?

I agree that the NRL need to expand i would love to see a team in Perth especially given they are searching for a new Rugby team, the NRL would be stupid to miss this. I dont see how the UK is Irrelevant.. it kind of proves my point that Rugby is a game for TV as everything happens in the one part of the field whereas AFL is spread out. Englands population is 3x that of Oz and the Union teams play in big cities yet get smaller crowds than the NRL.
And once again no, moving to bigger stadiums wont work as fans have proven before! All you have to do is watch the finals every year. They get smaller crowds at the bigger stadiums because there is no appeal for fans to travel to a soulless ground that has no atmosphere. Why on earth would we move to bigger stadiums when we dont sell out suburban grounds?? All we need is better stadiums, NOT bigger

Where will the NRL be in ten years?

But once again youre comparing it to the AFL. No Rugby competition in the world comes close to the AFL in terms of crowds . The NRL would almost be leading the way. If you look at all the Rugby Competitions around the world they average similar or smaller crowds than the NRL. Eels are the proof big stadiums wont work! Going to watch a round match at ANZ isnt appealing as there is no atmosphere hence why Eels got small crowds. You build a decent stadium (Suncorp, AAMI, Bankwest) and people will show up. It doesnt have to be massive, just state of the art! The game wont grow if we start getting smaller crowds which is exactly what happens when teams play at bigger stadiums

Where will the NRL be in ten years?

We dont need to put Sydney teams in bigger stadiums because the suburban games arent selling out! Tigers have played their share of games at ANZ yet draw about 10-12K. Thats even the same as their games at Campbelltown and thats a tiny stadium. Sharks have taken finals matches to Allianz where they have pulled 15K, which is smaller than what they would pull at Shark Park, Manly have taken finals matches to Allianz aswell and pull around the same numbers. Panthers have taken a finals match to ANZ and drew 18K (which is below their suburban capacity). These crowds for finals matches are a disaster for the game especially on TV. Manly pulled 15k this year for their finals game at brookvale and the atmosphere was unreal. Point 1 – Sydney fans dont travel, not even for finals. Point 2 – There is no need to move games to bigger stadiums when they dont even sell out in their heartland suburban grounds. Why make fans travel for a home game?? just upgrade the facilities of their current ground such as Parramatta and watch the crowds increase.
Eels are the perfect example. When they were playing out of ANZ while Bankwest was getting built, they were drawing 12-13K a match, then they moved in to bankwest and 18K was their smallest crowd and that was on a Thursday night

Where will the NRL be in ten years?

Taking away suburban stadiums and move them into big stadiums?? I thought we moved past this… We have been trying that but the Sydney teams arent co-operating and most likely never will. If tickets have to be given away for fans to attend a prelim (Roosters v Storm) then they definitely wont pay for regular round matches. AFL is a different game to watch live as play is spread out all over the field. This isnt just an NRL issue its a Rugby League & Union issue around the world. In the domestic comps the crowds arent there. Look at NZ in the Super Rugby even though its a religion they average around 13K a game. Go to England and their Domestic Union comp averages 12K with regular attendances under 10K. Even their semi finals get about 12-13K. So really the NRL isnt performing too badly when it comes to crowds it only looks bad because we are comparing ourselves with the AFL. However I feel facilities are everything. Look at the Eels, Storm and Broncos crowds, they have awesome stadiums so people are turning up. Watch the Cowboys crowds next year. Better stadiums (not bigger) = better crowds

Where will the NRL be in ten years?

Apologies but i dont think the NRL nor the AFL need to feel intimidated by A-Leagues presence. WSW are proof of that as they believed they would be the drawcard at Bankwest yet so far the Eels have proved they are. I think the Eels smallest crowd all year at Bankwest was 16K and how many WSW matches have eclipsed that??
32K on fox sports when the NRL and AFL average around 300K!
It needs to be remembered that the A-League season is on during the NRL and AFL off season. If they were all on at the same time there is a chance that the A-Leagues numbers would be even smaller

Six talking points from A-League Round 8

Its hard to get a grip on it but Soccer is the most played sport in Aus and continues to grow yet the crowds & TV ratings arent getting any bigger?? Any reason on this? Becuase it really doesnt make sense to me..
Soccer participation numbers far exceeds Rugby League yet the average crowds for the NRL (although are still poor) exceed the numbers the A-League produce.
My bet is the A-League is being crushed by the European Competitions in terms of local popularity

Six talking points from A-League Round 5

Oh stop it!
The Broncos are being hard-done by because they have to take an under 2 hour flight to Sydney and Sydney teams get to bus it around town?? Well yeah Sydney teams would have it easier there but 2 hours isnt exactly a stretch is it?? Plus the Cowboys are twice as far away than the Broncos so you still cant play the victim card on that. No 5 day turnarounds, prime time games majority of the time, one city to themselves, the Broncos are being spoon fed with a silver spoon

NRL free-to-air fixtures for 2020: Where does your team sit?

Spot on Walter. Growing up from 2000-2010 my family didnt have the money to pay for fox sports so the FTA games (2 a week at that time) meant everything to us as they were the only games we could watch. It was super exciting seeing your team on the schedule but only about 4-5 times a year you would see them

NRL free-to-air fixtures for 2020: Where does your team sit?

They are all those things you said because they are the only club in an entire capital city where rugby league beats all. They are also the only club that doesnt get a 5 day turnaround throughout the entire season. If any team gets spoon-fed in this competition… its the Broncos. And thats coming from a QLDer!!
