GOAL – Polkinghorne (BL)

Lions work it around the broadcast wing. High kick by Staker to the top of the goal square falls to the ground. Polkinghorne kicks the footy off the ground and puts through his first for the night. Right place, right time.

Suns need some reward for effort here. Had the majority of the play in past 10 minutes but haven’t made it count on the scoreboard.

Evening all AFL Roarers!

Welcome to coverage of the second Q-Clash between Brisbane and Gold Coast. Game will kick-off at 7.10pm (AEST).

Both teams have had disappointing seasons, looking purely from a ladder viewpoint. However pride and bragging rights are certainly on the line.

The two teams are comign off indifferent losses, with the Lions narrowly going down to Collingwood, while the Suns were annihilated by an awesome Geelong outfit.

The Suns won the last time these two sides met.

There are NO LATE CHANGES to either side.

Here are the starting benches:

Brisbane: Luke Power, James Polkinghorne and Cheynee Stiller (Substitute: Patrick Karnezis)
Gold Coast: Sam Iles, Jared Brennan and David Swallow (Substitute: Dion Presita)

Tip: Lions comfortably.

Game starts in 25 minutes.

Agree wholeheartedly Ben. Point out in the article that while he’d be a great coach, his presence in a footy department/management style role would be just as influential. No disrespect to the great man, bur not sure how long Jimmy Stynes can hold down the president role. Enter Lyon – the perfect replacement.

Garry Lyon, the Melbourne Demons need you!

I just saw that too Cattery. I agree with King that he would clubs on the brink of a GF, but also believe the risk would be enormous.

In the end, as the guys said, it comes down to risk v reward.

Will anyone give Andrew Lovett another chance?

Exactly. His lack of game time – not his off-field behaviour – could be the biggest reason why clubs won’t pick him up. He played for East Perth last year and had little impact. And you can’t prove much in a competition like the Northern Football League.

Will anyone give Andrew Lovett another chance?

Don’t rule it out – http://bit.ly/nToXsg

Will anyone give Andrew Lovett another chance?

Appreciate the comments guys, but can’t agree.

Cadel is an Australian sporting legend. First ever Australian to win the toughest and most demanding (both physically and mentally) sporting event in the world. Forty-four Australians had tried before him, he was the first. And he eptiomises perseverance, after coming so close on numerous occasions. He also won the World Championship in 2009. Legend.

As for Cathy, well what can you say? Won an Olympic gold with an entire nation on her shoulders. Perhaps the greatest moment in Australian sporting history. But as amazonfan said, won an Olympic silver, two world titles as well as numerous Commenwealth medals.

Yeah great point about Lonergan, Alfred.

I was standing in the outer at that game against Melbourne in ’06, and it was one of the bravest acts I’ve ever seen on a footy field. How Lonergan came back from his state after the incident is nothing but inspiring.

Can AFL players suffer from dumb courage?

Where to now?

The Eagles have it all before them now. As mentioned previously, they’ll feature heavily in December. Yes enjoy this victory, but they need to knuckle down and focus on next week sooner rather than later. They’ve reinvented a few players too, such as Nicoski up forward.

The Cats were awesome in the second half. They are still an awesome team, highlighted by their ability to kick goals and find ways to get themslves back into games. However they’ve ropped their past two games after winning their first 13.

Full credit to the Cats though.

They were down by 40 points at one stage, but had a wonderful second half. Their big names lifted in the second half, Corey in the third term and Chapman in the fourth.

Still, that’s two losses in two weeks for the Cats.

What a win for West Coast! Two big wins from its past two games!

No doubt the Eagles are a genuine top four contender now!

They’ll enjoy this victory.
