The ball carrier leading with the head like that is what should be banned, even close to the try line. Everyone seems to have missed a key takeaway from this article. The Fiji coach is quoted as saying ‘we were able to bring in a reverend.’ To me it sounds like Fiji had the one true Protestant God on their side whereas we only had three psychologists and a failed cult leader. My own thoughts are that there may be an over training issue resulting in the Wallabies being a fraction off and late at the breakdown. I was at the game in Adelaide and the Wallabies looked really fresh and sharp in all areas there. Perhaps they put maximum effort into training during the week whereas what they really was some rest and some lighter training just to keep sharp. The Boks on the other hand brought in some fresh players. This might also explain some of the high injury toll we have suffered lately. Maybe there should be more emphasis on recovery, short-sharp skills sessions and keeping the strength and fitness just bubbling away rather than going super hard a few days before games.

Harrison is too little to play as 10 in Super Rugby let alone for the Wallabies. The Waratahs improved tremendously after he was half killed trying to tackle the Chiefs. It is hardly Dave Rennies fault that there are limited options from the 10s in Super Rugby. Hopefully the Australian sides level up next season and somebody comes to the fore. Personally I would put Hodge in there.

I think Floyd Aubrey should be given a go at ten for the reds. Of course he would have to play ten for GPS first. Aubrey seems to have the ability to read the play better than anybody else on the pitch or maybe it is an illusion caused by his natural foot speed.

The second goal was pretty much just bad luck but I was muttering to my TV that he should be taken off in the first half. He seemed to be out of sorts and perhaps rattled because of the first goal. Unfortunately I have no witnesses to these prescient comments. It would probably not have made a difference anyway because of the rest of the team not playing well either.

There is still an unresolved mystery there. She was clearly hoping Cheika would resign – as were many wallabies supporters. The idea that it was the size of the payout that stopped him being sacked doesn’t convince me in light of the various other financial wounds RA inflicted on itself and in light of Larkham being available. An unpaid amateur coach would have been better than Cheika at the end.
