On the other hand, if that game had been a whistle blowing competition it would’ve been one for the ages.

'Philosophical, disappointed but excited': Tahs lose another nail-biter as wasteful Blues hang on to make it 10 straight

The ball carrier leading with the head like that is what should be banned, even close to the try line. That and the off-your-feet headfirst human cannonball ruck clean out look like a recipe for long term brain injury. Sooner or later medical science and junior player’s mums are going to realise that.

Everyone seems to have missed a key takeaway from this article. The Fiji coach is quoted as saying ‘we were able to bring in a reverend.’ To me it sounds like Fiji had the one true Protestant God on their side whereas we only had three psychologists and a failed cult leader. This is a major disparity and something for which Rugby Australia should hang their heads in shame.

Kerevi vs Semi: Can Eddie afford to go into crunch Fijian RWC clash with underdone Wallabies star

Donaldson looked suspiciously like a non tackler a couple of times in the previous game but I would love to be wrong about that. Suli hasn’t set the world on fire but in my opinion the high kicks for him to run onto
have been poor.

'Great mates, but super competitive': The Wallabies shootout going down to the wire in Japan

Foley is a non tackler unfortunately and those little kicks aren’t going to help

Wallabies CONFIRMED: Foley returns at No.10 as Rennie makes EIGHT starting XV changes for Bledisloe opener

Thanks for the insightful article Nick,
My own thoughts are that there may be an over training issue resulting in the Wallabies being a fraction off and late at the breakdown. I was at the game in Adelaide and the Wallabies looked really fresh and sharp in all areas there. Perhaps they put maximum effort into training during the week whereas what they really was some rest and some lighter training just to keep sharp. The Boks on the other hand brought in some fresh players. This might also explain some of the high injury toll we have suffered lately. Maybe there should be more emphasis on recovery, short-sharp skills sessions and keeping the strength and fitness just bubbling away rather than going super hard a few days before games.

ANALYSIS: How break downs at the breakdown cost the Wallabies, and the changes needed before ABs clash

Yes, they need to reduce the number of combinations and permutations in the lineout and practice the ones they keep to death.

Rennie rewards Wallabies with four-year selection first, just ONE change in 23, 'livid' coaches want 'ruthless' response

Harrison is too little to play as 10 in Super Rugby let alone for the Wallabies. The Waratahs improved tremendously after he was half killed trying to tackle the Chiefs. It is hardly Dave Rennies fault that there are limited options from the 10s in Super Rugby. Hopefully the Australian sides level up next season and somebody comes to the fore. Personally I would put Hodge in there.

Wallabies CONFIRMED: Rennie makes SIX starting team changes for Boks battle, opts for 6-2 bench split

I think Floyd Aubrey should be given a go at ten for the reds. Of course he would have to play ten for GPS first. Aubrey seems to have the ability to read the play better than anybody else on the pitch or maybe it is an illusion caused by his natural foot speed.

ANALYSIS: 'Asking too much' - brutal truth behind James O'Connor's axing, and why Wallabies defence coach had to go

Foley must be one of the all time bad tacklers. He ducks his head really early so he can’t see what is coming. He is the turnstile.

Wallabies squad shock: JOC left OUT as Foley returns, Tah young gun's first call up, key men return to face Boks

Anybody but Foley

WALLABIES TEAM: JOC gets redemption shot after 'stinker', Foketi's first start, prop to debut

The second goal was pretty much just bad luck but I was muttering to my TV that he should be taken off in the first half. He seemed to be out of sorts and perhaps rattled because of the first goal. Unfortunately I have no witnesses to these prescient comments. It would probably not have made a difference anyway because of the rest of the team not playing well either.

Keep your head up, Aziz - we’ve all had days like that

I don’t know why nothing was done about the forearm to McDermott’s throat. It was the same as Kerevis in the world cup and Jordy Barrett’s as well. What is the French national sport? Diving.

'Absolute travesty': Outrage over Koroibete red in Wallabies v France decider

Yes, it’s a real pity the best full back was left at home – Tom Banks that is. He can kick of course which is essential in a full back.

Castle, conflicts of interest and chaos

There is still an unresolved mystery there. She was clearly hoping Cheika would resign – as were many wallabies supporters. The idea that it was the size of the payout that stopped him being sacked doesn’t convince me in light of the various other financial wounds RA inflicted on itself and in light of Larkham being available. An unpaid amateur coach would have been better than Cheika at the end.

Castle, conflicts of interest and chaos

Exactly

Australian rugby has its problems, but Raelene Castle was not one of them
