A final in a 3 team competition with 1 round? Are you serious?

ANALYSIS: Kangaroos left edge clicks to down Kiwis - but Madge has to find a solution to his Manu problem

The NRL’s entertainment refs on show again – interpretations all in who is leading the scoreline – In the Mens GF Broncos didnt get one decision in last 20 mins including 2 errant Edwards play the balls as Penrith closed in. I was informed that so long as intention is OK any old play the ball will do. In the ladies game today, Oz just leading and Brigginshaw plays the ball which looked jerky but was legit and they pulled it up for a scrum. Obviously the ref didnt read the interpretations but read the script.

How’s this for a conspiracy theory. Auckland make GF in 2011 – guess what RUWC in NZ at same time. Auckland make finals in 2015 (according to TV) RUWC on at same time. Auckland make last 4 in 2023 whilst the RUWC are on. The rest of the time they are rubbish.

Rugby League World Cup qualification and World Series format revealed amid eligibility shakeup

I’m suggesting cost which is why US and France pulled out as hosts – 16 teams makes it too long, costly and heavy impost on players (especially with new concussion rules). The RUWC is too long and too many minnow teams but full houses who maybe paying full fare which didnt happen at RLWC

If you look at the NRLs Rules & Interpretations policy document, Annesley’s own cover letter confirms that the role of NRL referees is not simply to be neutral arbiters of the game: -” Telstra Premiership match officials have a responsibility to contribute to the game as a spectacle for the benefit of all stakeholders.” -“Match officials are not only required to adjudicate on the laws of the game, they must also ensure each participating team is provided with equal opportunity to determine the outcome by finding the right balance between enforcement of the rules, and contributing to the game as a spectacle without unwarranted intervention:”

‘The resume speaks for itself': Luai on the hate, the injury, the faith and why the Panthers are the best of the NRL era

2021 “rules” and a ” handover will be ordered when a player does not make a genuine attempt to play the ball correctly with their foot. ” Edwards never motioned his foot towards the ball but rolled it back as in training

Type in 2020 NRL rule interpretations and on front page it drops a very big hint

McKinnon has nothing to do with this – other RL people agree with me that evening up has been going on for years – “probably…. writing conjecture” Masters wrote many columns alluding to evening up (esp before renewal of TV rights – I assume as a bargaining chip and he was never sued) and Warren Ryan spoke of it as well and Masters claims a coach agrees with him – I’m assuming Bellamy since Masters is a frequent visitor to Storm training

Where is this in the interpreations? it means anything goes and its up to the ref which means a game can hang on an interpretation. Wonderful

So no decisions at all to Broncos in last 20 minutes – is this a record? As Cameron Smith in a GF, his last game, said to Sutton as Storm were under pressure at game end and hanging on – “Ï know you want a close finish” and as Roy Masters has written often in SMH, the networks want a close game to keep neutrals watching. The refs were even told in pre-season instructions to adjudicate to make sure they keep in mind the needs of all stakeholders – including one would assume the network paying hundreds of millions Of $$

I’ve seen that PTB rule played in other games especially when a non-offending team is behind – should we let Farnworth/Staggs get away with bad play the ball in first half then. The point is Brisbane didnt get any decisions in the last 20 mins and Penrith got everything. Gee is guaranteed another GF and I used to think Gee was neutral unlike the other 2 impostors who always try to get a close game to maximise TV viewers as the refs were directed to do in 2020 rules interpretation guidelines.

Broncos (not a fan) did not get one decision in last 20 mins though Penrith/Gee were nearly perfect.

Leota try at 62 mins? – Edwards foot didnt touch the ball in previous play the ball and then forward pass from next play the ball for Cleary break to pass to Leota (remember forward passes last week?)
65.42 Edwards on Broncs try-line didnt touch foot (again) in play the ball.

66.49. No Nine replay of Carrigan losing ball in tackle but assume legit as no complaint

71.58 Penrith winger No 2 offside when Crichton kicked ahead for Walsh to regather in-goal but Wingers knee in Walsh’s head is passed by the bunker (is that Klein again?)

BTW I dont think Flegler scored in first half but bunker OK’d it to make scores level as first replay showed the ball grounded short and there was no momentum (the Nine commentator went “hang on” but then talked over by other commentators)

BTW Capewell should have come off 5 mins before the end for HIA – he was flattened – will there be a fine? – probably not

But Crichton is likely to sign for the Force?

'Semi pro sport at best': Ex-Ireland HP manager's scathing critique of Aussie rugby, and dire warning for its future

Whenever there is a bad result, there is a pile-on from would-be experts. Its the tabloid newspaper model – you can always find a malcontent who thinks he has all the answers and create cheap headlines. Ireland and Scotland have improved because they have used the residency/heritage players rules to the max to recruit foreign players surrounded by a wealthy club competition (though with 2 clubs going broke recently). Speaking of malcontents, if you dont think its a pile-on from the NRL rights holder Nine newspapers, they hired perennial professional whinger Campo to write (and I use the title loosely) a column of bilge. It will make sure the next rights deal will be cheap for them or Fox.

If that had been an interstate team, Daicos equivalent would have been asked to appear. He may have got off but its just too inconsistent. The whole thing stinks esp after the Weitering/Shields comparison on being hooked for concussion.

Will Daicos win the Brownlow... and should he have copped a ban? Five burning questions for AFL grand final week

Obviously the near touch judge was beaten for pace and the other one would have been obscured by players or not allowed to intervene (when in douby play on) _ Rugby bunker intervenes but doesnt stop controversy though Walsh’s was easy call. Penrith at home to win easy because they cant appoint Sutton nowafter the forward pass drama or can they?

NRL prelim finals talking points: Why Broncos have the firepower to give Penrith a run for their money

Yeah but the Weittering incident and others where head knocks are ignored plus Giants didnt get many 50-50s incl (Greenes high tackle/Daniels in the back into the ground etc) shows there is crowd influence or worse umpire bias in decsions

Kingsley slams GWS star's 'extremely disappointing' last-quarter HIA - but Giants only had themselves to blame

The ref should have been doing one of the prelims – he knows how to get a close game – his decisions were bewildering and all one way

Australia scrape through in PNG - but Kumuls prove their case for an expansion side

Its been a forward pass for 100 years – it will never be fixed – so long as the receiver is behind the passer and its not deliberate out of the hands play on or drop forward passes all together making it 3 dimensional may make it more interesting

'The forward pass was so wrong it wasn’t funny': Did a refereeing 'howler' cost the Warriors?

Remember how RL was going to take over NZ after Warriors beat Storm in 2011 (another RWC year) in prelim only for them to get belted in GF.

Walker sees similarities in Warriors' finals charge to Rabbitohs' emotionally-charged fairytale run of 2014

The idea is to even up the comp (like impact of SOO on big clubs) by getting the premiers to come back early esp after some of them have played as late as Oct/Nov in post season series. Give them a break – they are not autonomons (spelling)

From Sydney to St Helens - why the World Club Challenge must return for 2024

Cant have Gee doing GF – too fair Bring back Ash for the neutrals to have an interest

ANALYSIS: Good luck everyone else as Penrith have way To'o much power - but Storm did everything to help them

Gee has the Penrith game so wont risk a close game as Sutton would so a win for Penrithr

Prelim Final Teams Late Mail: Panthers make call on Luai's shoulder injury, Storm confident on Hughes, Johnson on track

I’m not sure how Kamakemitha ? is playing . He went off with serious HIA in last 4 minutes and presumably snuck in on an alleged clearance – is anyone asking this????
