Steve, I appreciate your point of view, what Folau had to say was completely unacceptable and deserved exactly what he got.
But his crime was built on nothing more than words, no matter how disgusting everyone thought them to be, and breaking the agreement he’d made with his employer not to do it again.
I’m not trying to condone what he did, it was completely unacceptable in today’s society, but it was only words. There was no physical violence involved, no act of public obscenity, no public or private vandalism, no criminal charges were laid and yet he was sacked and shunned by both codes , for which he’d played, in Australia. Fair enough!
On the other hand, the NRL at least seems to have no problem in welcoming back into the fold , those who have been charged with criminal offences for physical violence, vandalism, public acts of indecency/obscenity and there doesn’t seem to be a problem. True, some have been found innocent, but then you have an example of another who was found guilty, given a suspended gaol sentence and wins a much honoured medal while still on a good behaviour bond. Go figure!
Like I said, I appreciate your point of view and I’m not saying Folau should be allowed back in the game, but if you let proven violent thugs back in the game, then you’ve got to be fair to someone who decided to express his views, no matter what anyone else think of them.

Israel Folau and the governing bodies who are powerless to govern

I don’t think a lot of people can look back past the bubbler incident to recall all the other problems he caused for the teams he represented as well as the NRL, not to mention others. It certainly was such big news at the time that perhaps it pushed all the previous incidents into the background to be forgotten.
He was a great player, no denying that, but he was also trouble to any club who signed him. Can he have changed his ways enough over the last few years to instill enough confidence for any team to spend good money to take a chance on him? I don’t think so. He’s already had multiple chances and blew them all and can blame no one else for his demise, but himself. I was rather surprised to see the petition to attempt to have him join Canberra in the Nines and honestly wondered how his inclusion over young, upcoming players who work tirelessly to earn their place in the team with not only their talent and abilities on field, but off field good behaviour as well, could be be justified. Why should they be cast aside to accommodate a known problem child.
I’m with you Joe, no place for him back in the game now. Just how many chances does he think he’s entitled to?
More than enough given already.

Who sank Todd Carney’s career?

Scott, when you say “if all players were on the market over the last 10 years, few if any, would command a higher bid than Ponga”…… are you referring to your top ten picks for the decade or just those few Roosters players you mentioned at the bottom of your comment above.
I’m staggered! Can’t believe anyone could make such a statement.
Ponga’s not worth, let’s say, the sort of money commanded by Cronk , the last couple of years, Teddy, Keary and Mitchell. And there’s something terribly wrong if you think he could draw the dollars that Smith, Thurston and Slater could.
I know you say you have your theory and there’s no right or wrong, but there’s something terribly wrong when you make a statement like that, particularly as you haven’t backed up your reasoning in regards to Ponga.
Sorry mate but I think it’s all hogwash.

JT is by far the best NRL player of the 2010s
