Great article, with some ideas for action. Interesting to see how blindingly obvious these things seem to be but very difficult to pull off.

With the use of social media these days you can do a lot to build the loyalty/ a social relationship (actually interacting with fans when the post or tweet) and help fans know and care about the players.

How to get a crowd to your stadium (by someone who failed)

I think that One was initially launched too early for their own good. They should have delayed the start by 2 -3 years to allow them to be a part of the new AFL, NRL, A-League etc TV deals that are all being done now or next year. Sure they got the NBL and Netball, but as has been said these arn’t big enough to pull in the ratings.

I think part of the down fall for One was they they broadcast the AFL on both Ten and One at the same time (this may have been due to a contractual deal with the AFL that said it had to be shown on Ten, not sure though). They should have put the AFL only on One and kept Ten free for other programming.

Sports free-for-all? Not any more!

Obviously Nii’s agent was a prick, but Harry Kewell etc seem to be best mates with theirs. Would be good to see a piece on the relationships between players and agents.

Nii Lamptey: Pele’s most tragic prediction

I really like playing with budget calculators (I like to nerd it up sometimes) and I think it would be pretty interesting if someone did make a calculator that let you do budgets for an A-league club or the FFA. We in Australia have a few extra considerations when running the club that “Football Manager” can’t handle ie the salary cap.

Does anyone know any thing about the general costs and revenues of either the FFA or one of the clubs?

Could you manage the A-League's budget?
