The Roar has been told several high-profile candidates, including Schmidt, are surprised RA has taken as long as they have to get the ball rolling with regards to both the director of high performance role and the Wallabies head coaching job.
I find statement incredible.
I get that they want to get this process right but it seems the Ball has only started move with little momentum gained.
Could the Roar tell us who these “high-profile candidates” are?
If they are waiting on Horne, March seems like the 11th hour to me.

Hi Ken.
Yes mate I get it. Certainly has been done to death.
I guess they have to write about something.
Thanks for the kind wishes and naturally reciprocate the sentiment.
Be safe over the break and I look forward to your humour and sometimes your incite in the new year.

'Let the good times roll': Hope springs eternal after a year of ups and downs and merry go rounds

All good mate no hard feelings from this side and no need for apologies.
I truely look forward to your weekly columns and have full respect for your opinions.
Look forward now to see how the Rebels translate their preseason to the actual season.
Unfortunately my boys both are into basketball on Saturdays and Aussie Rules Sunday. But pleased they are playing something.
But as you say it’s no excuse for me going down.
Do see a bloke called Allan Latu around there much. It would be a good excuse to catch up with him if nothing else.

Fears for Rebels' future as debt threatens their Super Rugby existence - but CEO says 'we will be fine'

You crack me up Trains.
Were a lawyer in another life.
There seems to be a fair bit twisting of words going on.
I pretty sure I’ve never said I’m judging anyone.
All I said I took on another team other than one I’ve always supported and now don’t. Is that a bad thing?
So let me be clear.
I support the Highlanders. I have always supported the Highlanders. Thick and thin.
I took on Rebels as a second side and went to pretty much every home game up until 2019 (not 2015).
Due to leaving to many games shaking my head saying WTF was that I no longer support them or go to their games.
Since then they have got worse.
Now if they can improve (and Geoff suggests it could be this year) I will start going back and support them as my second team.
And because of all that I am now the bad guy and bad supporter and everything wrong in rugby.
If you still believe that well good on ya have a nice day.

Fears for Rebels' future as debt threatens their Super Rugby existence - but CEO says 'we will be fine'

As it would seem that you really just replied to my comment, I guess I’m the fat/old/tied bloke.
Not sure I wrote that I was having a crack at their training ethic.
I would presume that EVERY franchise is and has been busting a gut lately.
I would expect every team, especially a professional team to be doing the same.
I was however having a crack at their on field displays recently or at least when I’ve mentioned. It would seem to me (and possibly only me) that is or at least hasn’t translated come game time.
If you don’t like that, good, it shows you are a hardened supporter of that team.
So you enjoy your Keto Salad and Broccoli juice and leave me to my nap after a truck load of Ham and Grog and we will both be happy.
Merry Christmas to you and yours and I will still look forward to your weekly write up next year. Maybe on how well the Rebels are going.

I don’t think Geoff meant it as “Hard work” as in “Bloody hell I need a lie down now”.
I think he meant it as the work was already done for the registered followers/supporters.
It would seem I need to get Teched up.

No argument here my friend.

Fears for Rebels' future as debt threatens their Super Rugby existence - but CEO says 'we will be fine'

Hi Billy
Yes mate just a opinion.
Why then is the Dolphins, Cowboys, Broncos & Storm so successful
Not sure I would have thrown the Dolphins in there just yet, a bit early in their life span. But the others are due to success, winning games, IMO. For both Queensland teams location at the time also played a roll and being in already established League territories. The Storm just won.

Yes I have already been corrected with the Ram (Adelaide), but I think most don’t know they played only 2 seasons, yes one with Super League in 1997, but they played in 1998 in the newly formed NRL. Apparently fold due to lack of winning games and general crowd attendance number falling.
Western Reds were part of the ARL for 2 season and then become the Perth Reds 1997 for Super League. Their demise was the restructuring of the NRL.
It sounds like they are still going in a few comps down and now called the WA Reds.

Risky venture Piru, considering cost v reward.
I’m afraid the money is just not there at present.

Fears for Rebels' future as debt threatens their Super Rugby existence - but CEO says 'we will be fine'

I have no (zero) social media Geoff. None of the 4 or 5 things you have mentioned.
I suppose that’s reasonable assume that’s how a lot of people would stay up to date. I guess I could have clicked on their website.
Would it also be reasonable that there might be better ways or at least other ways of marketing to attract or inform new supporters or just people such as myself. After all isn’t that the point to grow the Club. Maybe that’s the problem, the Rebels are waiting for everyone to follow them.

Fears for Rebels' future as debt threatens their Super Rugby existence - but CEO says 'we will be fine'

I would have thought you wouldn’t have put to much into team sheets.
Teams on paper don’t win the game, generally it’s the team on the paddock.
34 verses 36 Season Table point would indicate they were reasonably close.
The year the Highlanders won, most wouldn’t have know at the time who they were.
There would have been 3 possibly 4 house names. Suddenly there are 23.
You seem to forget, I was with the Rebels from the start, there just became a point where I said that’s enough.
It’s not even about having stars on the team sheet. It just so happens that year they did and after the dibble at the end of the season, that was enough for me.
Like most “fans” in Aus. It’s just a convenient excuse to say why we don’t go and blame somebody else when in reality we can’t be bothered, have other commitments or are just too lazy too.
Not even sure why that’s relevant to me. I supported them and now I don’t.

Fears for Rebels' future as debt threatens their Super Rugby existence - but CEO says 'we will be fine'

All fair points Geoff.
As I said, although the Highlanders is where my heart is, I decided to get behind the Rebels, being my local Franchise and as a second side.
2019 is when I walked away (sorry Trains not 2015) for reason I have already outlined.
Since then 2020 was written off due COVID.
2021 they have finished 9th (Second Last)
2022 they finished 10th (third Last)
2023 They finished 11th (Second Last)
Now being a Highlanders fan, I hope you can appreciate that it’s not wins or table position that I need to support them, it’s intent, it’s having a go, it’s leaving nothing in the tank. It’s all very well saying that’s happening, but it’s easier to read when walking away from game saying “yep we lost, but what a bloody good game”.
They have shown me nothing suggest they deserve my support.
Maybe as you say this year will be different. The proof will be in the pudding.
Show me that you can compete, show me that you want to win and yes they may drag me back in. Now that may seem fickle, but I generally treat and talk to people how they treat/talk to me. I have seen nothing since 2019 that would suggest that they would deserve anyone’s support. Now I am nothing special and I have, like many others that have walked away spent a fair bit on this franchise and for what?
Now I appreciate players and management change, but once again with no positive results thus far.
As for the open day, how the hell would anyone know that was on. Is that a player issue, no, it’s a Club Issue. There is still work to be done in getting Tribal Die Hard Support in Melbourne even after 12 or so years.

Fears for Rebels' future as debt threatens their Super Rugby existence - but CEO says 'we will be fine'

That’s alright Craigo, I got 2015 and 2019 confused before.
The point being, the Storm has been successful in Melbourne due to their success. I didn’t intend to compare the Rebels with any of them other than if the Rebels were successful they would have a strong supporter base in Melbourne.

Hope so Muz 👍

Yep, Sorry it was 2019.
And yes non were wooden spooners.
But to have 145 points put on you (Crusaders, you could be forgiven) when you have that squad with NSW below you and the Chiefs at home 2 points above you on the ladder and playing them in front of your home crowd who desperately wanted them in the finals is ok is it Trains.
The reason for kicking them to the curb has not changed.

Not really sure why you would think I’m worked up Trains.
I can assure you I’m happy as Larry.
Christmas is upon us, Summer is in the air, BBQ is fired up and Frothies are flowing 😛
