On point, great article, Mary.

I think it’d, be refreshing to hear from some new commentators (on 9, and fox) in the future as well. Instead of the same people, every week repeating the same old tired cliches and misinterpreting the rules! They also seem to forget about the forward passes in these passages of play as well.

Fair comment not coming from unfair commentators whining about rules they should know off by heart

That’s right, it’s no where near an upgrade but the weather and beaches are much better 😁

'Welcome to Wigan, dickhead': Rugby league's a different ball game in the concrete jungle of post-Thatcher Britain

Thanks Mr Journeyman, that’s a great article… Really enjoyed it! It’s great to hear an Aussie perspective, on a rugby league game in Wigan on a Saturday night! Especially as someone from just up the road from Wigan but now lives in Western Sydney.

'Welcome to Wigan, dickhead': Rugby league's a different ball game in the concrete jungle of post-Thatcher Britain

Great article, Mary.

If these two incidents occurred to another NRL team, then there would have been further punishments, but clearly, the NRL and the media have their favourites.

And therein lies the problem, on the field there’s no level playing and off it, no one in the mainstream is calling out these inconsistencies. Ultimately, if this continues it will ruin the game and it will be hard to attract future interest as seemingly the officials, NRL and the media have already decided the result.

Why bother tuning in or spending time and money going to the game when it’s already predetermined? It’s hollowing out the essence of sporting competition i.e., fair play and unpredictability.

I’ll never know whether these incidents were intentional or not, but players (across all codes) have no problem intentionally injuring opposition players, absolutely none!

Penrith probably would have won both these games, but they’ve massively benefited from foul play on two occasions and other the teams have not only lost a key player for the actual match but will have them unavailable for the next one too!

NRL consistently inconsistent when it comes to punishments for head-high contact

They have a great forward pack with depth, but the backline leaves very little to be desired, especially if any injuries or suspensions happen, which they will.

There were mitigating circumstances in the previous season, but let’s have this right, Parramatta has not strengthened in key areas for several years now, and it will come back to bite them at some stage!

Last year, the club stated they’d sign an x-factor player (potentially at the expense of the best performing player over the three or four years and the team captain). The next signings they made were Morgan Harper and Kelma Tuilagi! Two players who couldn’t get into the Manly squad! I’ll leave it there!

Eels back in the swim for 2024 or heading up the river? Why they will and won't make the finals

Some really good summaries of the game. For me, the officials swung the game in favour of the Rabbitohs (allowing the Graham try!) and they took full advantage. It happens all too often, key (and seemingly straightforward) decisions are the wrong ones, and the game/momentum turns. How anyone can claim that isn’t foul/penalty is truly beyond me! Cronk, ‘he only had eyes for the ball’, so that doesn’t make it a foul then!?!

ANALYSIS: Dolphins give Souths scare, but Walker and Mitchell can't be stopped as Bunnies start to look scary

Hodgson is having a big impact on Parramatta on and off the pitch. There’s been a few critics this year but give it time, and you’ll see the impact he’ll make, especially in the big games where Parra needs a calm head on the field. Once he decides to retire, I’m hoping he’ll be around to pass on his knowledge and expertise to the next generation.

'I knew I’d get back here': How Hodgson overcame Raiders heartbreak to make mark at Eels

I hope you’re right Albo, and let’s see if they can sign him first, and judge him later. The Titans are a lot better this season but as you say off the bench with a tiring defensive his running game could be massive. Let’s wait and see 👍

NRL News: Wighton drops Raiders exit bombshell, Eels out to poach Titan

They should bring tech in to reduce the number of errors made, especially when it leads to a try but it won’t be without controversy, still better than it is now though. Also, why aren’t the touch judges calling it?

So, Jayden Campbell is allegedly the ‘x factor’ full-back – Jesus Christ, what are they smoking in the Parramatta boardroom? Would anyone who follows Rugby League describe him as having the x factor? I can’t see him bringing anything that Sean Russell or Haze Dunster can’t already.

NRL News: Wighton drops Raiders exit bombshell, Eels out to poach Titan

There’s only one truly global game, and that’s football. All else pales into insignificance by comparison. Rugby Union is an absolute bore to watch nowadays, it may be played in 100 different countries, but that’s not with professional leagues. Good luck to Suaalii though making as much as he can in a short career.

I’m not sure what the board are smoking at Parramatta! Are they for real? They couldn’t even sign Taupau (a position which needs to be recruited by the way)!

What gets me about this statement is they’ve not signed anyone but made a few phone calls! French is at Wigan until 2024, and RTS isn’t coming back to league, so I’m not sure who else is out there because they’re not going to get a rival fullback from another side. I’d have Gutherson over those two any day of the week.

I’d love Jack Welsby, but again he’s not leaving the Saints anytime soon, plus he’s probably a bit young at this stage.

So, I’m intrigued to find out who this ‘x-factor’ fullback is!

Gutherson is one of the best, if not the best player, at the Eels (and has been for a while), and there are not many ahead across the NRL in that position. They’d be a queue of clubs wanting his service for sure.

NRL News: Rugby boss hits back at 'cry babies' over Suaalii deal, Eels on hunt for new fullback, Matterson explains fine mess

All top-class players, no doubt, but is it not the whole point of the salary cap to spread the talent across the NRL? It’s pretty clear the Roosters are cheating the salary cap, and I think most clubs/fans (apart from the Roosters) would want some investigation into the finances.

Tedesco, I imagine will eventually move into the 5/8 role, while one of Manu or Suaalii will go into the full-back position, and the other will leave. I can’t see how you can keep all three financially or, from a playing point of view, three into one doesn’t work.

But, for Roosters fans – what a luxury to have all three at the moment! Enjoy it while it lasts!

Tedesco extending deal into 2025 puts ball in Suaali'i court in Roosters' bid to solve long-term fullback riddle

The Rooster are an average team. They wouldn’t have won this game if it was for the favourable refereeing decisions! I actually stopped watching with 15 to go as the bias towards the roosters was unbearable! And, now they’re signed Nathan Brown, and Parramatta is allegedly paying the majority of the salary! I’d to say it’s unbelievable, but it isn’t… They even helped out the judiciary when any other player would have got a ban, but (Suaalii) they get a fine instead!

ANALYSIS: Roosters scratch out Warriors win, but lose Brandon Smith with star major doubt for Souths

Good shout about the Titans.

They seem to be putting a good 17 together. Foran will be important.

How can the Rooster have Tedesco $1.1m, Manu $750k, Smith $800k, Walker $500k, Colins $550k, Keary $850k, Suaalii $500k, Waerea-Hargreaves $700k, Radley $500k and Tupou $400k? That’s $6.8m and doesn’t include Crichton, Lodge and Tupouniua.

Any victory will be hollow in my eyes but despite all the salary cap infringements, I still don’t believe all the hype around the Rooster. I don’t think Brandon Smith is anything special, and when he’s not in the Storm structure, I think he’ll look a bit lost.

Queensland will win origin regardless of who stays fit for NSW.
