Tks Nick nice write up. With the top 4 there is only the Brums entrenched there all season. Reds are 5th and some 6pts adrift. I wish that weren’t the case as top 4 is vital to progress to semis.

Australia's SRP sides may have fallen at trans-Tasman hurdle - but three signs point to a closing gap

Agree DM it just hasn’t gone DC way. Lots of close games and unfortunate injuries. Tahs have a good full squad. I hope he gets one more shot with a full roster to chose from.

Five things: The Reds have flipped the script - and it promises to be rewarded at the Wallabies selection table

DM, another perspective. Brums beat Reds and that’s now 3 games in a row. Go figure. Also Brums beat #1 team, go figure again. Even the Tahs beat the Saders twice so read into that what you will about Reds getting a leg up on #10 team with their own injuries etc. Reds lost to #9 and #12 so let’s not ignore that outcome as Moana & Force didn’t really have a solid roster. So if you’re saying Brums are “too soft vs big packs” then you can also say Reds are “too inconsistent or rocks & diamonds” against bottom half teams. Which is worse? All teams are very close and what matters is the ladder and finals results at the end of the day, finals in particular is most important then consistency. Brums have been the most consistent with a style closest to Test footy, and can win big or ugly and why they are #3. Reds and Brums should be playing each other twice each year.

Five things: The Reds have flipped the script - and it promises to be rewarded at the Wallabies selection table

Tks Ken I just can’t see how one passes up points at test level. It’s not just kicking off the tee either, it’s CG kick for touch and out of hand. Re-watch the season on kick for touch note who makes it to the 5-7m and who is 10-15m out or further from the try line (this is penalty kicks near the 10/50m. Huge difference there in attacking options. CG misses way too much to even find touch. All players have limitations and CG isn’t immune to those “ceilings”. With Lynagh he is but a boy at this stage and even smaller than NL. I know that most AUS supporters do not value kicking and perhaps believe it to be the soft option to running rugby and tries & maybe that’s true. But point to me what team has won a RWC without a dominant kicking game (Handre, DC10, Steyn, Jonny…) and how important were kicks in those semis and finals. I thought the issues with CG and having to leave out Kellaway highlighted overall selection issues. So if Carter is 10, who’s at 9, 11, 14, 15, 22 & 23 and who’s kicking for points, touch and field position for you Ken? With Carter at 10 could we afford to go 6/2 on the bench against bigger teams without compromising a back three starter?

Alright that’s it Christy! Just swap the Tahs to the Reds this weekend and let’s settle this. Would love to see the Brums beat the Reds twice again in back to back seasons. With regards to 10 I think Joe made his position quite clear, CG is lacking some test level skills. If CG is 10 then who’s kicking, Lonergan? If Lonergan and he gets subbed for Tate then who’s kicking? If Donno plays at 15 then what about Kellaway and Wright the form 15s and guys like Toole. Can you see how the inclusion of CG and his lack of skill in some areas absolutely Fs things up in other positions? We saw this at the RWC with Donno in for Kellaway as CG couldn’t hit a barn door. If NL at 10 then either Tate or Lonergan can play 9 depending on the situation. You then can play Wright, Toole and Kellaway in the back 3 or at least Wright, Kellaway and a big winger. Options open up with NL but with CG we’re chasing our tail.

2 in 2 yrs 😂 sounds like a holiday in Oz

'Toughest decision': Wallaby's blunt admission over form as Force land Brumbies lock, teammate brought to tears

You started well W Evans but then over played it with some comparisons there. 😂 Good luck. 👍 By the way you gave kudos to the backs and completely missed the real reason for success. It’s the boys in your tight 5, particularly the new front row starters and reserves, plus Uru too.

'The real deal': Love 'em or hate 'em, the Reds are exactly what Australian rugby needs

It looks like Hunter wasn’t holding pocket aces after all. Congrats Reds for keeping your man. It’s a bit concerning we’ve only got 2 test players at 12 with games under their belt. Aside from Foketi and Hunter have I missed anyone? If not, then there’s an opportunity there (Stewart or CG)

I wasn’t serious about the Senator. Force gave him a shot in his early days and Poey has expressed his gratitude and development with the Force 👍

Not build around but mentor & play given injuries. I don’t think he got on the pitch with the guys we have but Tahs tight 5 isn’t the Brums tight 5. That sounds critical but it is what it is.

Yes agree. So rather than encouraging their team and admin to roll up their sleeves and make better decisions let’s just blame the front runners. “Bring it down rather than lift up”. Sounds even worse if you say it a few times.

Ooor the WB would even be worse if the Brums weren’t there 👍 You really think a team of WB stacked with more players from underperforming clubs would actually do better. 😂 Let’s not forget that the last WB team rolled out without the Brums players established in WB got a big fat 0% vs tier 1 teams. And yes your are trying to blame the Brums, all good join the cue.

100% sure Guess. Look at my recent replies to Biscuits. You are way off the mark. 100% also sure the same question can be asked of you, kinda the pot calling the kettle black.

Blues turn it on late to smash Rebels as gun young lock finally stands

Rocky you’re gonna jinx us bro. Darcy is only just starting to hit his prime. He’s got another 5-6yrs to just get better. In two years when his contract is up we may be wanting this kid back…just saying.

Sheikh. It’s a good list but you can’t have Giteau. He went over to Force already at the top of his game and then came back to the Brums. You can’t have Senator Pocock either…just because 😂

Jez, are you 100% sure on IR? Rodda has a flat tyre. Getting Myles up and running as an 80min player would be cheaper and more long term. Where’s this Thomson fellow?. Ned, Jed and Hugh to stay too as your hybrids. Jez the Tahs list is good, when all healthy.

Tony check out the U20s and U19s with games coming up on tv. U20s Captain is from Brums at Lock. A few others too, we’re good 👍

'Toughest decision': Wallaby's blunt admission over form as Force land Brumbies lock, teammate brought to tears

Correct. And a lot of dumb things happen from 15 to then 😂

'Toughest decision': Wallaby's blunt admission over form as Force land Brumbies lock, teammate brought to tears

It’s all good Baz, player movement away from Brums is just a continuation of one of our contributions to AUS rugby. We’ll keep picking up juniors and vets to make them better. Winning programs tend to do that if you look at the Storm and Swans.

Too right dizz. I love to remember those early days as it makes the karma these days so much sweeter 😂 Even Hoiles and Morgs stated on Stan that “everyone knows you go to Brums to get better…” 👍

Perhaps not with your mates and that’s fine but the admin and pathways in that region is to the Brums. I have mates and family there too and yeah it’s Brums not Tahs(synonymous to the big smoke). I’ve seen plenty of JDC1 in the early days. Also, just have a look at how many country boys chose the Brums as NSW GPS is way too far geographically and socioeconomically. Start with Bernie, I’m pretty sure he grew up just on the border in NSW but chose school & club in the ACT.

'Toughest decision': Wallaby's blunt admission over form as Force land Brumbies lock, teammate brought to tears

All the tools are there I believe to turn things around long term for NSW. It’s not the coach it’s really that NSW club’s power faction that Jez points to. They have been counter productive for the pro era and don’t want to recognise that the pool is much bigger than Shute and WB. When that power faction is removed or seeks to better collaborate with QLD’s & other states power factions then we will see changes. I also think all GPS comps need to merge comps with all schools within their respective state. Compete for state titles at different tiers, tier 1, 2, 3 etc and have relegation & promotion. We also need to promote rugby players in all selections and just ignore league players for the time being.

You’re going to continue to be very disappointed Biscuits as players even at the juniors are taking up the global offers. ie, Tahs are lucky to get Myles back he could have easily stayed in France with the other kid now playing for FRA. Just for the record, and we agree on this, I have stated many times & also still believe, it really should be the Reds & Tahs flying the high performance flags for AUS to move forward for some of the reasons you stated. BUT it is not in the best interests for AUS rugby to scupper the only consistent high performance outfit of the last theee decades. Hopefully Horne, Nucifora and Schmidt can change the culture around collaboration/centralisation or whatever they want to call it. It’s a huge task. We don’t have to stand idle and with that I mean our dialogue at grassroots roots and up, as we are the stakeholders, can demand change for the betterment of the whole. Almost all of my niggle to you Biscuits and Jimbo is only that and responding when you wind up, that is all. By the way the Brums have and continues to contribute; just have a look at the U20s team this Thursday, 8 Brums incl Captain. Would they have made that leap from schools to National & SRAU under Tahs or Reds? Looking at the last 30yrs I’d say a juniors best chance to progress is at Brums.
