I completely agree, Handscomb seems to be the only ‘busy’ batter in the line up and I am completely dumbfounded to how both Shane Warne and Brett Lee can leave him out of their world cup squads. The ability to rotate strike on a tricky deck with high quality bowlers is key to an innings. Apart from beautiful cover drive early and the six over cow, Finch’s innings was probably one of the worst 37s I have ever seen. A dot ball percentage of 74% percent is absolutely abysmal and he got lucky with some boundaries through the slips to release pressure. I like Finch as a player and his tactical ability in the field, however, he cannot be deployed as an opening batsman when bowlers, like Bumrah, have the ability to hoop it both ways and on decks that are doing a bit. A potential solution could be batting him later in the innings when the field is spread, to enable him to rotate the strike more easily. I feel Finch trying to adjust to test cricket has really put his game out of whack and if dropping him down the order doesn’t work, he needs time in T20 and list A cricket where he can dominate.

Aussies suffer last-over loss in ODI thriller against India

I agree completely that now others have locked down their spots. However, at the start of the summer, when Australia couldn’t buy a run, I believe that Wade’s non selection was based around the ‘good bloke policy’. Should Wade get selected? Considering the achievements of others, no. I guess what I said earlier was worded badly, but during the Indian series and after the Pakistani series I felt Wade was not selected due to the ‘good bloke policy’. Paine should undoubtedly keep his spot in the XI.

Put Tim Paine in the Order of Australia, but not the Ashes squad

At this stage it’s tough to say after some good knocks in the Sri Lankan series, Labuschagne is probably the first choice. I should have specified during/after the Indian series. He’s batting in the shield and big bash has been better than most others’ in contention, so there must be something else hindering his selection, which my guess would be Langer’s good bloke policy.

Matt Wade is definitely a good bat, but does he pass Langer’s good bloke test? Only thing stopping him from being selected in my opinion.
