Hooper is really good but, Pocock was on another level to him in more than just turnovers Johnb. Pocock was almost always the most effective and damaging tackler on the field as much as he was a monster over the ball. He also had a great rugby IQ and was more versatile, having played 6, 7 and 8. He is one of the few Wallabies that comes to mind when thinking of a Hooperesque work ethic as well. For me, he was far and away the more important player to have on the field.

Where would the Wallabies be without Michael Hooper?

I too am interested in this

Where would the Wallabies be without Michael Hooper?

I do agree he’d make a great 13 if we developed him there… however he is our most reliable back under the high ball, best back-line defender for the Reds able to position well and deal with the biggest players in the opposition one-on-one, he’s fast, has the best ariel ability, has begun kicking well, is a running threat in space and, through his incredible offloading skills and ability to draw-in and manipulate defensive lines, he can set up game breaking plays. Compare this skillset to Banks and its laughable. Also Francis, consider that you’ve likely never seen him play fullback (unless you watched his pre-reds era games) so you can’t actually know whether the rugby he’d pay there is better or worse. He has been played at 13/14 and his skill-set has developed accordingly, it is therefore no surprise that people think he is “best suited to that position”.

Can the Wallabies bank on Banks?

Yeah agreed. Aaron’s mindset is on another level though. He is like the Cristiano Ronaldo of rugby

Jordan Petaia IS A FULLBACK. He has played there his whole life until he went to the reds where he was forced into centres due to Kerevi’s departure and because they already had three fullbacks in the squad at the time (and he was only 18). He was tipped to play FB during TT but was injured in the AU final. If we don’t see him at FB this test season, we will almost certainly see him there next year at the reds and I strongly, strongly, strooongly believe he will be a revelation. I just hope he stays injury free long enough to prove the naysayers wrong.

Can the Wallabies bank on Banks?

I know he does a lot of work with Genia behind the scenes, so I’m hopeful those things will improve

Tate was great

Indeed it is fact – came from the man himself

Is it time to show the winless Waratahs some love?

Quick fact about Petaia if anyone is interested: He was set to start at FB for the TT series before his injury in the AU final. It would have been awesome to see him have a crack at his favourite position especially given his kicking game had improved a lot by the end of the AU season. He was also meant to go up to wallabies camp at the end of last week but his injured quad isnt recovering as quick as expected so he’s looking at an additional 5 weeks on the sidelines :((

Is it time to show the winless Waratahs some love?

He’s an offloader and solid at the ruck as well

Zaccy lucas is the most exciting imo. Outshone lolesio and Harrison in U20s wallabies in 2019 and is playing out of his skin in Japan.

Coach's Corner Issue 17: Do the Wallabies have what it takes in the second row?

Will do

James O’Connor is a centre

Jeez do you really find it worth arguing the technicalities here Numpty. I’m just saying that Carter Gordon and Zaccy lucas are looking goooooood while Noah has been nothing special. But to your argument: Noah hasn’t improved drastically over the TWO YEARS he’s played – and his test series DEBUT is relatively worse than others who debuted last year. You don’t need to play an entire test series to have a worse debut than someone else? Not sure why your so caught up on this part of my comment anyways.

James O’Connor is a centre

How can he have gone backwards during tests? By performing relatively worse in his debut test series compared to other debutants.

James O’Connor is a centre

How can he have stagnated? Well by not improving much relative to other young players in his position I.e lucas and Gordon who have stepped it up this year.

James O’Connor is a centre

Lucas is the most under-hyped player on Roar threads. He has been killing it up in Japan, absolutely playing out of his skin with a much, much quicker/ better running / stepping game to Noah. He has featured in a couple try of the season contenders – both setting them up and scoring his own out of individual brilliance. The sooner he gets back the better. Both carter Gordon and lucas have greater potential than Noah who has honestly stagnated for the past couple years and even gone backwards during test rugby.

James O’Connor is a centre

He’s been playing really well in TT at 7 though

Back to back row: When the going gets tough, the tough get going

Oh Nick – Rodda/phillip, Arnold and skelton could very well be the best lock trio in the world let alone to NZ.

Back to back row: When the going gets tough, the tough get going

He walks straight into the n6. jersey pushing Wilson to bench to cover 6/8

Back to back row: When the going gets tough, the tough get going

So… you add ruck speed to the arsenal of an AU team (I.e reds) and then bang you can beat a grand-final-making kiw iteam? Is that really all that’s needed??

Why are we losing by record margins when just last year – when AUS rugby was perceived as being worse than it is this year – we were much more competitive against the NZ sides.

I.e get rid of the rebels so to increase the salary cap of the other SR au teams enabling better retention of talent, as well as redistributing talent the Rebels talent to less teams providing greater depth.

Six talking points from Super Rugby Trans-Tasman, Round 2

Thorn really should have played Petaia at fb for at least a game a or two this season

I’m a reds supporter and believe Gordon is the best pick followed by Nic White
