Dylan Lucas.

Tyson v Jack: Newcastle's halves are the big question for Adam O'Brien - but does he have a secret weapon?

I reckon Dylan Lucas will get first bite at the #12 jersey, especially with KPP’s injury. Equally, it’s likely that Leo Thompson will start ahead of one of the Saifiti’s, probably Dan.

There’s a fair amount of cohesion in this team so hopefully the form from the back half of last season will flow through to this one, but as you say it hinges on Ponga!

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Newcastle Knights - halves face competition from new recruits but season hinges on Ponga

Fair enough.

Smart Signings: Newcastle need to make moves to stand still in 2024 - and finding Young's replacement is the key

Parry seems to experienced to fall into that trap.

They signed him almost a year ago and his injury occurred in one of the final rounds as Wigan went on to the win the comp. Short of having a time machine I’m not sure that the Knights management could have done much. We have him signed for multiple years and he’ll be back in the early rounds.

Miller’s pace is in the first 10-15 yards. That quick burst of acceleration but over the longer distance he’s pretty average. Not knocking him. He’s definitely my Knights #1 and hopefully he keeps on making those tackle busts that create opps for others.

Not sure I agree with the point about mentoring here. Both Matty and Joey credit a lot of their technical and tactical development to a coach called Alan Bell who apparently used to spend hours with them on video work and ball skills.

Why the Knights should tinker with Taylor but leave Brooks behind

Good article! Can definitely see Ponga moving into the #6 jersey this season or next. The 1 and 6 play pretty similarly in attack these days anyway.

Hoy needs to add some bulk without losing his speed if he wants to make a career in the NRL. I remember the game against the Souths in the season just gone. He was absolutely tortured by Reynolds’ kicking game. Returning the ball he got hammered and pushed back pretty much every time.

Haven’t seen Hodgson play but it’s a big ask to come in and take over Ponga’s jersey for anyone, never mind a 19 year old debutant.

Whatever happens I just hope they do some work on their attacking shape over the off-season.

The Knights’ No.1 problem if it’s a case of Pearce off

So Mullen is condemned for life then is he?

I hear he’s been doing a lot to share his story with young players to help them not make the same choices he made.

Rather than focussing on the bad, they could focus on his rehabilitation.

Will Jarrod Mullen be able to play in the NRL?

If the latest news is to be believed and Pearce is off to Catalan then surely Mullen is worth a punt in the Knight’s squad as an experienced half with a point to prove.
Longer term I still think Ponga will move into the #6 jersey but doing that this season and blooding a 19 year old at Full Back seems like a huge risk to me.

Will Jarrod Mullen be able to play in the NRL?

Call it blind faith but I’m backing the Knights to squeeze home against the Eels!

Panthers and Roosters to each win by plenty and Storm to come from behind against Manly in a tight contest.
