Dees should be fine, at least for Top Four. Carlton are in a malaise and our last two weeks, despite the loss, are us back to top form.

Six Points: Eddie Betts' powerful point gets lost in camp fiasco, and Cripps must get two weeks

Wasn’t he laughing when he got gang tackled?

The other problem that arises from that is the opposition will now know they can reel us in even if they get that far behind against us, given how often it’s happened this year, when it would normally deflate them. We fix that forward line, we’re near unbeatable, but it’s still a work-in-progress with every other line elite. But I can’t see that happening any time soon unfortunately.

Still think we can win the premiership, but we have stronger opponents in front of us this time round, including two with the historical wood on us (Syd and Coll).

AFL Friday Footy Fix: Langdon wasn't wrong... but the Pies' 'one trick' is just that good

Despite my disappointment in the result, it’s the best game I’ve seen in years. Now with some distance since the match ended (and sober), I’m strangely pleased we are part of those now after decades of never being so. We brought our best but Collingwood in the end were better.
I also liked both Coaches response about Langdon’s comments post-match, even though it’s probably what gave your boys the extra ammunition to get over the line. I honestly thought we would win comfortably before those comments, despite the recent history against us. And honestly I like it too: it’s honest with a bit of cheek rather than being deliberately inflammatory.
Given how I expect things to transpire, we may very well meet Week 1 of the Finals too. Either you or Sydney. Bugger.

Honestly, I agree. I prefer to have these conversations in person too. Better discourse arises from it in my experience.

Josh Jenkins' childhood was 'a source of shame, pain and pride'. He says Crows camp leaders used that to abuse him

I don’t need to read what you wrote again. I was aware of the cynicism the first time. None of the “squillions of dollars” would absolve the hurt he’s suffered if it’s not genuinely forthcoming from those who did it to him.

Josh Jenkins' childhood was 'a source of shame, pain and pride'. He says Crows camp leaders used that to abuse him

The teams we support are irrelevant when it comes to something as serious as this. I understand your trying to jest, but perhaps this isn’t the thread for it. Even then, that might be an arrogant call for me to make.

Josh Jenkins' childhood was 'a source of shame, pain and pride'. He says Crows camp leaders used that to abuse him

Then why comment on it? If you claim to “not care”, which is your prerogative, surely you’d instinctively do something better with your time given your lack of interest, especially if you feel you know how people are going to respond. What’s the motivation?

Melbourne’s season has unfolded thus far almost identically to last years: won there first 9 last year then went 4-4 and a draw, losing to the Bulldogs in Round 19. This year it was the first 10, then a 3-5 record, losing to the Bulldogs in Round 19. They won there last four last year but will be more difficult this time round to do so.

However there is one key difference: there record against the Top 8. Last year it was 8-2, by far the best, with both those losses against teams they also beat. This year it’s 4-5 with teams implementing plans around Melbourne’s structure. It’ll be there ability to address this when they inevitably face teams that have already beat them come finals, including two teams that generally have the wood on them, Sydney and Collingwood. For now though, Geelong feel the team to bear with Sydney the Smokey.

The unsung heroes who can deliver a flag for Geelong and Melbourne

Whilst it’s true we can’t judge Geelongs win until September comes given their recent history, the pressure game they brought Thursday Night is the sort of football that stands up in Finals which should be noted. Still wait and see.
I’d also add Angus Brayshaw to the AA Half-Back discussion. No bias, he’s genuinely been terrific there this year, though Sinclair and Docherty are probably the front-runners. Not that the committee wouldn’t put Daicos there though, they’re about creating legacies these days.

Six Points: There's a danger in overhyping Nick Daicos, and why Geelong's brilliant Dees drubbing just doesn't matter

You think Clayton Oliver is attractive?!

Six Points: Lloyd's Bomber bake misses the point, Leon Cameron deserves more credit, and AFL flips fans the bird again

Yeah as much as I dreamed as a child of the Demons winning the premiership at the MCG in magic hour, I think Twilight just makes more sense regarding broadcast times across the country as well as young kids getting a chance to watch and celebrate afterwards so it’s not too late (re potential Night GF). Plus, aesthetically I like the transition of the first half in daylight to the second at night.

That last paragraph isn’t actually true (nor possible), but I see what you’re getting at. I personally think the 5 double-up opponents should be in the same bracket as how the season finished post finals eg. Melbourne would play the teams that finished in the Semi’s or further twice as would all the rest of that bracket would instead of playing Freo and Collingwood twice. I like this as I feel those teams are contending to rise up against one another from the year previous…I’m unsure that makes sense but I am sick.

All good. I’m from Perth myself. Met a Dees fan at the Mt Hawthorn Pub once trying to convince me we should become the Darwin Dees back in 2016. Guess that’s why the name stuck with me…that wasn’t you was it? Lol.

AFL Friday Footy Fix: Putrid Eagles hit rock bottom, Tigers feast on the carcass

When I first joined as a Demons fan five years ago, DarwinDee was the only poster I could identify as a Melbourne supporter, so I’m not sure why it would say March this year: he’s been here a lot longer than that.

Yes I have one of their albums: pleasant 50’s style music. Can’t speak for the latter, but I’m a Taurus if gives you any interest.

Six Points: Even stars need to be called out for dog acts, and Port Adelaide's path forward is clear

Her “adorkable” image (I think it was her that coined that term, or at least how she was described) became too much of a brand at some point I agree, but I only really think of her in 500 Days of Summer, before it became a bit much.

Six Points: Even stars need to be called out for dog acts, and Port Adelaide's path forward is clear

I don’t think it’s because he’s dirty, more for introducing the arm shrug that causes him to be high-tackled and get a free. Although I’ll give him credit for being clever enough to realise that could work, you just always feel hard done by as the opposition if you’re on the wrong side of it, but every side does it now.

I agree with the second part of your sentence though, but for me it’s because he comes across a bit entitled. His career resembles that of a kid born into a rich family: premiership player first year, 5 years later part of a dynasty, 5 Grand Finals and only missed finals once his whole career. Seems to throw a miniature fit when things don’t go his way too (as in free kick against). Having said all that, he’s probably a nice bloke, lol.

Anyone else having an issue of clicking on a reply only for the site to navigate to a random part of the thread, or not at all?

Part of me wonders whether they feel like they won it at all.

If it’s possible to be too cute, it’s her.

Yeah I’ll second that and say that it’s definitely Kennedy. If one were hypothetically forced to keep one of him or Cripps, I reckon most would choose the former given he’s been a reliable, consistent key forward. Strange how he’s not mentioned in the Candidates section either, but to each their own. I assume it’s because they had to trade Judd compared to what they gave up for Cripps. Regardless, this has been an interesting concept for an article series.

Your club's best trade of the 21st century: Part 5 - West Coast and Western Bulldogs

Players and Coaches are smart to exploit the new rules and embarrass the Rule-Makers very quickly. It’s just such a ridiculous penalty for something so innocuous: all for the sake of increasing scoring.

Six Points: Swans benefit from AFL's dumbest rule, Saints must be praised, and Dogs' problems aren't just bad kicking

They also beat the Dees last year. They have a style that troubles us.

Only good thing about it is it’s seen a reduction of “In the Protected Zone” 50m Penalties, not that I have the stats to back that up but it just feels that way. It’s likely because the umps focus is elsewhere. That’s my least favourite rule, or at least how it’s adjudicated but it took the introduction of another stupid rule to see it diminish 😔
