Collingwood had to keep him but 7 years is too long imo. How much money is left for Moore, De Goey and Pendles? Moore and De Goey tested the market when they had their last contracts renewed. One of them might get squeezed out. Pendles won’t play anywhere else.

I am with you there, I just don’t see much young quality on the list outside Cripps, Doch and Curnow. Simpson, Ed and Murphy will disappear soon so more likely to go backwards in the future. I like Brisbane’s list a lot better and even GC after their last 2 drafts could go past them in a few years.

Gold Coast’s reset with the last 2 drafts has been exceptional and the early signs are that last years draftees are on board for the long haul. If they extend this years draftees early they will have no distractions for the next couple of years, I am confident Rowell and Anderson will. GC’s drug culture was their early undoing, the playing group have to stand up and take ownership like the GWS leaders. All Ablett did was divide the playing group with his segregated “God squad”. Gold Coast will succeed if they get the logistics right. They just have to connect with the local population which they haven’t done yet. I’d like to see them split there games between the GC and the Sunshine Coast to increase their supporter base for the short term.

Taken with pick 8 in the 2010 draft he had a great first year. There was all this talk about him sliding because of injury risks and how Brisbane had made a mistake not taking him the pick 5 (they took Polec). He just hasn’t improved over the years.

Cameron will sign on very soon according to all reports. These guys are taking long contracts with exit clauses included in exchange for unders, plus they are happy as a group. GWS will lose players down the track for sure but they keep managing to keep the ones they want. I see that Ward has given up the captaincy, after all his injuries I can see him being the next sacrificial lamb used to free up CAP space, he is past his best. Zac Williams is vulnerable to a big offer but it would have to be huge as he is tight with the playing group and is a NSW product. A few of those young mids they drafted last year … Hately, O’Halloran, Caldwell … will leave like Bonar because of lack of opportunity. But they will get draft picks back and just go to the draft again.

Brisbane had won 9 in a row before this weeks loss and it wasn’t a bad loss. They were not flogged. Lions deserve to be 2nd. They would have been Minor Premiers if they had won. Geelong’s form has been pretty ordinary since the bye. This is a Power Ranking not a ladder.

You can make the 18 NEAFL wins now. The list bats pretty deep at the moment and I cannot see any obvious delistings at the end of the season. I see a few moving on for better opportunities. Nick Robbo has been linked to GWS this week but I would have though Freo would be interested there. Lewie Taylor, Mattho, Keays, Cutler … I wouldn’t be surprised if they were traded this offseason. Hodgy to retire. Maybe Skinner back to the rookie list, swapping with the big O. Lions have just put a request to the AFL to keep Eagles as a CAT B rookie for another year. Not sure what happens to him if that request is refused.

I like the Teague signing, Carlton had no choice and there was a process. Not sure on Shaw though, not enough experience for my liking. Look at the long list of possibles for the Freo job, why weren’t any of them considered for the NM job?
