FUMBLE

Jason Pierre Paul brings the pressure and knocks the ball lose and the Giants recover. Just what the Giants needed. Stafford looks like he’s hurt his eyes.

TIMEOUT DETROIT. 11:56

There seems to be a bit of confusion in the Lions ranks. The Giants defence has put pressure on Stafford in this drive. It’s 2nd and 8 at the New York 33 yard line.

The NFL need to do a better job at picking their marquee games if I’m honest. Monday and Sunday nights are meant to be the cream of the crop and so far this season it’s been a little lacklustre. A large part of that has been the fact we’ve already had two helpings of the Giants.

After two penalties, one for taunting and one for a kick off out of bounds sees the Lions take over in Giants territory at the 45. Great field position for the Lions.

Much better from the Giants. OBJ wasn’t much of a factor in terms of receptions but his presence certainly makes the Giants a better offence – though still not a very good one seeing as it’s now 10 points on the season after 5 and a bit quarters.

SCORE: GIANTS 7 – LIONS 7

TOUCHDOWN GIANTS!

Even Ingram finds himself with no one around him in the endzone and Eli Manning finds him for the TD. The extra point is good. Great way to start the quarter for the Giants but you have to question the Lions defence – Ingram had no one near him.

END OF THE 1ST QUARTER.

A nice pass to rookie TE Even Ingram brings the Giants into the redzone for the first time in the game. This has been a positive drive by the Giants who have a first down on the Detroit 18 yard line.

The Giants are upping their tempo with some quick passing plays. Looking much better in their second possession of the night. A series of completions, including one short to Beckham, has seen them cross midfield and into Lions territory.

The Giants will need to find a way to pick their heads up after that last drive. We’re yet to see Odell Beckham Jr but it’s hard to see what even he can do if they can’t give Eli enough time to pass the ball.

TOUCHDOWN!

Lions go run heavy in their second drive with some success but cap up the drive with a beautiful back shoulder fade to Marvin Jones. The kick is converted.

Shaky start by both offences, but whereas the Lions showed a little the Giants showed nothing. You have to start to wonder about job security in New York if they can’t get the ball moving on offence. Eli Manning isn’t the QB he once was and HC Ben McAdoo has given him no help on the offensive line.

The Giants are forced to punt after a draw play on 3rd and long gets nothing.

The Lions receive the kick around midfield after a bad kick by Australian punter Brad Wing.

NO TOUCHDOWN. Result of the play is a sack.

TOUCHDOWN! Lions. Manning gets sacked and the ball is fumbled into the endzone. It’s ruled a TD but it looks like it might come back as Eli Manning’s knee appears to be down. Terrible start for the Giants either way.

Lions go run, run, pass with very little success and are forced to punt. The Giants fair catch at the 15 after a 41 yard punt. Not a great start by the Lions running game. They’ll need to do better if the Lions want anything from this game.

Stafford runs a play action pass on 2nd down to Eric Ebron for a good gain out the the 40 yard line. Nicely executed play to the TE. The Lions would love to see more out of Ebron this year.

And we’re off. Lions receive the kick and bring it out to the 20 yard line and the offence takes over for the first drive of the night.

And we’re moments away from the final game of Week 2. The Giants are looking to join the rest of their division at 1-1, whilst the Lions can improve to 2-0 alone at the top of the NFC North.

The good news for New York is that Odell Beckham Jr. will play – albeit at about 85% healthy.

The Giants haven’t scored more than 19 points in the last 7 games – they’re hoping that Beckham Jr. will be able to change that tonight. Last week they could only manage a single field goal, and were completely inept in both the pass and the running game. If OBJ can inspire a multiple score performance you have to say that he’s worth every cent he’s asking for because they look lost without him.

For Detroit it’s a matter of protecting Stafford. The Giants have a good defensive front and talent in the secondary but if the Detroit line can give Stafford time he should be good enough to create some points.

It’s actually statistically not successful either. Despite today.

Denver Broncos vs Los Angeles Chargers: NFL live scores, blog

Yeah it was a wild one. Was very slow paced early before a frantic finish. More late game dramatic losses for the Chargers it seems.

RECAP:

The Denver Broncos defeat the Los Angeles Chargers in a nail biter, 24-21.

The game looked like it was over entering the fourth quarter but the Chargers defence had other ideas. They forced an interception and a fumble that allowed their offence to capitalise and bring the game back from 24-7 to 24-21.

That set up a dramatic end that saw rookie Chargers kicker Younghoe Koo’s field goal blocked in the dying seconds of the game. The miss came just seconds after a successful attempt was waived off due to a Bronco time out.

Denver will be happy with how their defence performed for three quarters, but disappointed that costly penalties allowed Los Angeles back into the game.

Los Angeles on the other hand will know they have a lot to clean up on offense. The late game heroics shouldn’t paper over the fact they were pretty ineffectual for most of the game.

Denver’s defence had a lot to do with that. They stifled Rivers’ passing attacked and constantly caused disruption in the backfield. They might have lost T.J Ward and coordinator Wade Phillips but they’re still an impressive unit.

Despite the two turnovers the Broncos offense did enough to win the game. For three quarters Trevor Siemian showed why he was the number one quarterback in Denver. His numbers didn’t pop but he came up with plays when he needed to and wasn’t at fault for either turnover.

Denver follows up this game with a home game against the Cowboys in what should be another difficult test. Whereas the Chargers play their first game in Los Angeles since 1960 as they host the Dolphins.

BLOCKED

Shelby Harris blocks the kick and this one is over. Denver wins a dramatic game. It’s over.

Chargers bring out the kicking team. The rookie kicker from South Korea has all the pressure in the world on him for a 44 yard kick – he makes it but not before Denver calls a time out. He’s going to have to retake.

Gordon get’s the 1st down but there’s no time left. Rivers fires a shot down the field towards Williams and Roby is flagged for pass interference. He’s gone from villain to hero to villan again.

Next pass is incomplete. They’re at the Denver 36 with 17 seconds left.

Denver Broncos vs Los Angeles Chargers: NFL live scores, blog

Confusion by Rivers and head coach Lynn forces Rivers to take a time out. It’s 4th and 1 with 44 seconds remaining. They need to get this and then get to the line and get a spike or it’s over.

2.58 left to play.

The Chargers stop the Broncos and force the punt which is caught by Benjamin at the Chargers 38 yard line. Chargers have the ball with 2:00 minutes left to play and one time out. This is the sort of game gunslingers like Rivers were made for, but the Broncos have been a wrecking crew on defence for most the night.

Fun stuff.
