Is this a joke?

Would Tesi Niu be a good replacement for Dane Gagai at South Sydney?

Yes, EagleWal, it definitely should have been looked at. I think JH was reckless in another tackle during the game as well. Love the Storm but dangerous play is dangerous play.

Dumb kicks, rough edges and a New Zealand grand final? NRL Round 21 talking points

I keep wondering why more teams aren’t running plays down Olam’s edge because there are opportunities there and then I think about it and I’ve have to admit, what centre or backrower in their right minds wants to get hit with the kitchen sink every time they run that channel. It’s pain they can do without. Don’t tell me that’s not weighing on minds.

History beckons: Just how close Blues are to record-breaking points campaign

I’m presuming.

Obliteration: All Blacks raise the bat with record thumping of Tonga

That’s a fairer representation of what happened on Saturday.

Somehow I don’t think Wallabies fans would agree with that if it was their team on the end of a flogging.

Jacko, if you think fans generally appreciate their team getting thrashed by 100-plus points then you are a strange one. Now take that general premise a step further, if a national team is beaten by another national team by a record scoreline, how is this a good day for the losing side? If you are basing your view on how the fans at Mt Smart were reacting and how the captain’s demeanor then you are wrong. I don’t think any Tongan fan was happy with that result. Yes, they were not expected to win the match but to say they were happy with getting thrashed like that shows how much respect you have for them.

Agree. Tim needs to fight outside of Australia to win belts and emulate his dad, to some degree. I think a better opponent for Tim to fight stateside would be Jeison Rosario. Harrison might be too slick, crafty and experienced for Tszyu Jr at this stage of his career. Rosario has enough flaws to be exploited by Tim.

The key strategic error holding back Tim Tsyzu

Rats. I was looking forward to the Storm-Panthers fixture on July 21 expecting all the stars to be available for that one.

Disaster for Panthers, Blues as shoulder injury leaves Cleary's season in doubt

Concur on Santner. Ish’s control could be better. He bowls too many loose (either too short or too full) deliveries and goes for unnecessary runs but tends to be in more wicket-taking situations thanks to his turn and variations. Santner on the other hand would struggle to pick up wickets against a top high school XI.

Test cricket's home and away bowlers

I think with Santner’s test figures its a case of flattering to deceive. He provides practically no wicket taking threat. I really can’t understand why NZ have persisted with him for so long. His domestic figures are mediocre at best. I’d have Ijaz Patel, Todd Astle, Ish Sodhi and even Mark Craig ahead of him. Hopefully, this is the last we have seen of Mitch with the red ball. Thankfully, NZ have unearthed a bowler in Kyle Jamieson who could go on to rival some of their best ever.

What about New Zealand’s Mitch Santner? He’s rubbish home and away. Might be decent on Mars,
perhaps.

Cleary is all class and it’s only a matter of time before he starts consistently nailing it at Origin level.
And I’m a Queensland fan.

I think the apology was enough. Let’s move on. No need to ruin a young man’s international career because of some silly tweets he made as a teenager.

The ECB faces tough call on Ollie Robinson

I know Coen Hess was below par last series but he’s had a strong 2021 so far and deserved to have a spot on the bench ahead of Ofahengaue. Not saying Ofa won’t do his best once he gets out there but Hess just offers more especially on attack and runs with purpose.

Green confirms bench spot for Brimson, potentially as replacement hooker

Never liked the Roosters but Victor Radley is one guy I’d want in my team. The man is hard and plays his footy with no quarter given or asked. I just hope he adjusts his aggression down enough to stay viable in these times. It would be sad to see a guy like him rubbed out of the game.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 11

Hi Big Mig, as a fellow Souths diehard, my thoughts exactly regarding the fact that these losses (as lop-sided as they were) have come in the first half of the season so there is time to correct, but geez copping 50-point hidings twice is very worrying. I agree with those mitigating factors you mentioned (Reynolds situation, Latrell’s return, etc …) but these aren’t really substantive. I reckon Souths (the team not the club) have been a little too complacent and perhaps somewhat arrogant too in their approach to games. As if that drubbing in Melbourne wasn’t enough to jolt them back into focus. Sunday’s effort was kind of like the lackluster stuff Anthony Milford serves up for the Broncos on a regular basis, just soulless. Can they right this ship? I sure as hell hope so because I’ve been on this boat since 1987 through the good times and the bad. Let’s go, Rabbitohs.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 11

So anything suspiciously or presumptively high (dangerous) will be sin-binned and time wasting in the ruck will also be carded. Right out of the rugby union playbook. Goodness me.

The Force are better than most think or give them credit for.

Tim Sampson defends "world class" Domingo Miotti after conversion heartbreak

I hope Souths have a good back-up plan. Cody Walker can’t prop up the spine on his own, and he’s not a halfback. The club’s head honchos must see something in Dean Hawkins that the rest of us have missed.

CONFIRMED: Reynolds officially signs three-year deal with Broncos

Mary, I’m sure it was Jason Ryles and not Nate Myles who played for the Storm.

Why has Xavier Coates signing with the Storm hit such a nerve?

Benji is no starter. I thought that would’ve been obvious by now. His defence is a liability and he can’t play 80 minutes. Get him back to the bench and give Hawkins a run along side Reynolds.

NRL Round 10 teams: Reynolds back for Souths, major changes for Tigers

Skip and Shannon on Undisputed are good but I’m sick and tired of hearing Skip taking out his frustrations and disappointment on Kawhi and never giving the man his due, much less calling him by his name instead of a number.
Steve Broussard, who comes on Undisputed regularly is OK. Nick Wright is sharp like Kellerman but my favourite US sportscasters are two guys from the Ring Magazine, who used to do The Ring audio show, a podcast: Bill Detloff and Eric Raskin.
