These academies are great & proven initiatives on and off the pitch. However, If RA & Rebels/RugbyVIC are not in a position to harness the talent in Vic then forget about getting past the Qtrs and/or into a top5 ranking. Let alone building participation & enticing global & national sponsors.
Without living at home no pathway kid can live on minimum wage on the east coast & majority would see it as a bridge too far vs the generous & continuous NRL offers.
Agree there is lots of historical baggage that needs to be dropped. Looking forwards, The Rugby Club of Victoria raises funds & support for grassroots rugby projects channelled via a foundation, hopefully someone knows a generous benefactor to save & replicate these academies

The Wrap: Code Orange as looming Rebels decision places rugby pathways at risk

Excellent wrap as always & good see fact based opinions.
Surely the new RA leadership group knows it needs stand up & lead by example, dispense with the in-house politics put values first above tactically manipulation (& park anyone in HQ who does not comply with these values)
Without that any sort of collective trust, sharing, cohesion & success vs NZ & beyond is just cheap talk. Additionally, given how tight the Irish handle their internal & external comms Joe Schmidt must be very alarmed with the behaviour.
Ironically even with all of the challenges mentioned in your article I concur with the other comments Rebels have assembled & retained a squad capable of doing some damage both sides of the Tasman, hopefully they can avoid the distractions & galvanise.

The Wrap: Unity, integrity and the other casualties of shameful leaks aimed at the Rebels

Very insightful & aligns anecdotally with what I have heard about Joe. Given our current situation/environment he should be able to establish the right coaches around him, manage up & down well, bridge gaps & alignment, build some foundations & develop players/coaches, the squad. Andy Farrel certainly has kicked on & incrementally built from Joe’s base & success. Ist camp selection is going to be interesting & looking forwards to the pod starting up again to cheer us up !

Nobody Goes For Pints with Joe: 'Cult-like figure' with an 'exhausting' style who might just restore pride to a rabble

Geoff, the Wrap on the money so to speak. Very clearly great jeopardy at the bottom half of the table this week, no argument. The mass resting of top players should result in a points penalty. Of course if any individual is burnt out they need a break & managed but it’s diluting fan engagement when done on mass. Game day fan experience seems to be improving at some grounds but still shy of what you would find up north. Why don’t we have every local team play home & away? Top up schedule as needed with trans tasman games that run for 2 games. A mini tour for players & fans, away fans in the Champions cup is a major dynamic of the comp. See the smiling visiting fan faces in the crowd in Fiji even when the Drua are giving it to them ! Clearly NZ rugby has a structural advantage over AU with NPC possibles training with Super teams or being developed in parallel, understanding structures, culture etc. But to your point would a Carter Gordon been given the keys early & the school of hard knocks in NZ? (Unless he was considered the next Dan Carter)

The Wrap: Drua delight shows why Super Rugby finals structure is right for now

Excellent wrap thx.
Sanzaar did a great job in adapting the interpretation of laws & made good tweaks to lift game speed & enhance the game day experience (#1 driver of lifting fans from casual to loyal)
But unfortunately we are now stuck in rut with this law introduced to stop someone replicating a French shuffle in the front row. (Spontaneous injury when convenient for uncontested scrums)
The penalty is more onerous than a full red card !
No excuses, but clearly Rebels dropped to c25% possession in 2H & most of it on back foot. Fell from #1 in lineouts to last in 1 game & solid scrum also squeezed. With 13/15 against Blues & Beaudy keen to find full throttle this year & probably best attacking team in comp. Coached by likely new AB’s attack coach = training run on an unlevel playing field.
Needs another Sanzaar fix now with a vote from the SR coaches this week & not after year end review.

The Wrap: Where have all the Super Rugby upsets gone?

Class round up again, thanks Geoff
Cringe worthy Stan interview & pregame, it’s helps to do homework before trying to throw a brick in the pond !

The Wrap: Rebels critics should know better, thrills and spills in Fiji, and string of close finishes leads to ladder logjam
