Hi Ryan, I am also of same opinion. Although, it is too early to judge Kohli on the basis of only one test match and Smith’s credentials since last 18 months or so, the time is now to give both of them a long rope and make them permanent skippers. Dhoni clearly is not a master tactician when it comes to test matches, Kohli has shown glimpse of how a test match should be approached and go for win. There’s no point if you play hard for 4 days and then settle for draw if you think and sense a win can be achieved. This is where Kohli would be most suitable and appropriate. Smith seems to me a natural leader and plays aggressively when situation demands and can accelerate the innings well. But my concern is BCCI and Indian team management / selectors are not known to take such drastic steps on the basis of one test match. Hopefully good sense prevails and Dhoni himself steps aside to let Kohli lead and play purely as a wicket-keeper batsman.

Kohli, Smith - not Dhoni and Haddin - the right captains for their country

Current Indian batsmen (Murali Vijay, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane) are good players of spin and can tackle Lyon. There were few bad decisions that went Lyon’s way, otherwise it would have been different result. That said, I won’t take away Lyon’s performance to build up pressure and take wickets. He bowled really well.

To win, India must survive Lyon's den

That seems to me best way to move forward. Enough has been said, written over Clarke’s health issues and there should be an end to this debate. Its never a good sign if your skipper is struggling. He should step aside for this entire series, go back and sort out hamstring and back problem, play some domestic matches to assure fitness and come prepared for tri-series. That would be a good practice ahead of the world cup and he’ll be an important player for Aussie in WC, although Bailey is always a good substitute to replace him if he’s not fully fit before WC.

Should Michael Clarke handover the Test captaincy?

Good point. He struggled against Anderson in recent series, but am sure he will come good against them next time.

Kohli's positive attitude a step forward for Indian cricket

Totally agree with you. That’s best way going foward !
