So as a result we now have 2 board members that supported HM in his actions taking on the key roles!!! Smacks of shuffling the deck chairs without taking the tough decisions.

'What a shame': McLennan GONE as Rugby Australia name World Cup-winner chairman to bookend wild year

No point in shooting the messenger. He is right and we all know it. If CG has what it takes and QC thinks he does as many other do then he will learn from the experience and become a better player. I certainly hope he does. But there is no point in gilding the lily.

'An experienced 10 would have helped': Wallabies open up on on failed World Cup they'll have to 'live with'

and an ego to match

'Always knew it would get really ugly': RA chief's strange admission as World Cup budget blow out revealed

Extraordinary statements and admissions from HM. After acknowledging his errors in judgement and decision making he doesn’t intend to learn any lessons from his mistakes. So are we to conclude from this that he will simply lead RA into the same idiocy again!!!! What an ego!! If he was the Chair of any public company he would be drawn and quartered.

It seems the clowns are definitely running the circus.

'Always knew it would get really ugly': RA chief's strange admission as World Cup budget blow out revealed

HM is driven 3 things: ego, ego and ego. Every time he opens his mouth it is evident

The Wrap: What will the Wallabies' external season review reveal that we don’t already know?

But typical of his bully style

The Wrap: What will the Wallabies' external season review reveal that we don’t already know?

Well established rules of establishing an independent panel to undertake a review:
– make sure the members know what findings they need to provide before they start their work;
– ensure lack of transparency in the reporting;
– provide for plausible deniability of any finding that are detrimental; and
– ensure lack of resources to support the review.

Lets see how many apply to this review.

Ex-Wallabies and high-performance expert named to review World Cup shocker

If you think back to when McKellar and Laurie Fisher came on board there was a brief up tic in executing the rolling maul and scrum. But that up tic didn’t last and the execution started falling away. DR got the blame for that but I doubt whether he would have chosen either McKellar or Laurie Fisher over more suitably qualified international support coaches.

Exclusive: Path clear for McKellar to return as Wallabies coach despite Leicester job, Cheika's update on future

Agree Phil, there was too much following the RA party line early on. I thought I was reading a reworded press release. It continues to happen but as I have found out it get you block if you have the hide to point these out directly.

Exclusive: Path clear for McKellar to return as Wallabies coach despite Leicester job, Cheika's update on future

Yes, lets get on with it. But while DR and EJ are gone the fundamental point is board members who made the poor decisions that gave rise to DR’s departures and then EJ’s departure are still in place. Their abject failure to make well considered decisions leading to successful outcome means they can’t be relied on going forward. So lets get on with it by all means but that needs to start with the clean out of those that have a demonstrated capacity to make poor decisions.

CONFIRMED: Eddie blames RA for early exit as Woodward calls for Rennie apology, ex-ABs coach linked to role

Kamibaae, agree McLennan should be forced to resign because he seems incapable of recognising his failings and he has demonstrated that he does not have the skills or stature to hold the position. The Board should resign because their judgement has been so poor that no one can have confidence in their future decision making. Accepting accountability is meaningless unless there are consequences. All blame is falling on EJ but he was brought in by the Board to do a job. He did it and it failed but at least he has accepted the blame for his part and the consequences. The Board continues to hide from accepting the consequences of its actions.

'Completely unfair': Eddie sledge that angered Waugh, new coaching contenders emerge to rebuild Wallabies

EJ didn’t make RA clueless, they responsible for their actions. The Board must be held accountable whether they were clueless of not.

'Completely unfair': Eddie sledge that angered Waugh, new coaching contenders emerge to rebuild Wallabies

A more successful job of destroying the competitiveness of the WBs for years to come could not have been achieved even if it was a deliberate strategy. Regardless of the opinion of EJ he has been the only person to fully accept accountability and resigned (albeit leaving scored earth behind).
In the spirit of accountability for unanimously agreeing to take action that has done untold damage to the game of rugby in Australia, I make the following call to the RA directors:
– Hamish McLennan – resign
– Brett Godfrey – resign
– Daniel Herbert – resign
– Pip Marlow – resign
– Dr. Jane Wilson – resign
– Karen Penrose – resign
– Matthew Hanning – resign
Philip Waugh, you are also equally accountable. You need to explain clearly why you should have the right to remain as a Board member.
Don’t hide behind EJ resigning your incompetence put him in the position to the damage and you supported him all the way.

RESIGN

'Completely unfair': Eddie sledge that angered Waugh, new coaching contenders emerge to rebuild Wallabies

There is nothing more to say than McLennan and the Board need to be held accountable for the disastrous and idiotic decision to dump Renee and appoint EJ. At least half of them need to be dispatched and quickly.

'I'm not a quitter': Under-siege RA chair won't follow Jones, blames 'broken system' for chaos

The fundamental reality is that there is no Australia with necessary experience to coach the WBs successfully at this stage. Choosing an Australian coach is to choose mediocrity to add to the mediocre players that we have.

Jake White was very successful at the Brumbies and Deans has a better success record than those that followed him. It is also worth looking at Renne’s record. Australian for Australian sack is stupidity of the highest order. We need there best there is no matter where that come from.

'I'm not a quitter': Under-siege RA chair won't follow Jones, blames 'broken system' for chaos

“McKellar, his former colleague Stephen Larkham and ex-Wallabies coach Michael Cheika are other options to replace Jones’

they may be options but they are options that would not advance the cause. A Head Coach for an international team is not a learn on the job exercise. One of three above has been tried and rejected and the other 2 with no international head coaching experience. There is no Australian coach with sufficient experience (other than EJ and he has gone) to take on resurrecting the WB.

Exclusive: Path clear for McKellar to return as Wallabies coach despite Leicester job, Cheika's update on future

The RA Board is weak. HM makes the decisions and rides rough shod over everyone else. He takes no responsibility for bring the game to its knees and Board is to weak to force him off. Ultimately the Board is responsible. Eddy did what Eddy does – there are no surprises there. But rugby in Australia is lost with the sort of leadership provided by HM and the RA Board.

The Wallabies' World Cup campaign was a disaster from start to finish - but sacking Eddie Jones isn't the answer

Geoff, congratulations on an excellent article, one of the best written on this subject. I suspect McLennan’s ego will prevent him acting in the best interests of the game so we can only hope there is a special general meeting to remove him.

I recall Robbie Deans, when he had finished his stint coaching the WBs, saying how different the approach the WB players after a test match to that of the AB. The WB players started to organise where they would play golf while the ABs started orgainsing the next train session. Dean’s observations provides a stark demonstration of your point. How much has really changed in the years since Dean was driven out because we need to ‘play the Australian way’!!!

The Wrap: Wallabies scrape a win but the team, and the code, have entered Chinese water torture territory

When it all boils down to it politics in rugby in Australia has been the fundamental issue for decades. I remember when I was coaching many years ago, there always needed to be a balance in national teams selected (at any level) between the NSW and Qld players. It was never about selecting the best team. I am not sure it is all that different today. While I blame McLennon for this debacle, the ultimate blame for the terrible position rugby in Australia now finds itself in sits fairly and squarely with the NSW and Qld state bodies because they will not relinquish power.

'How did mighty Australian Rugby get to this': McLennan says he has 'no' regrets, outlines three areas to fix

The only things that playing all the young and inexperienced guys in the WC has done is to destroy their confidence and brought rugby in Australia to its lowest point in living memory. If providing experience was the objective the time to jettison some of older players was immediately after the WC.

Eddie Jones should be celebrated not booed: Why the worst thing RA could do is sack the Wallabies coach

yes and it starts with McLennan

'How did mighty Australian Rugby get to this': McLennan says he has 'no' regrets, outlines three areas to fix

McLennan is responsible for this mess plain and simple and needs to go now. Stop trying to shift the blame and hide behind revisionism McLennan. Do rugby a favor and fall on your sword.

Less talk EJ and more delivery.

'Give yourself upper cuts': Eddie furious at journos after 'worst press conference I've ever had'

EJ rode in making lots of claims. The RA Chairman shot his mouth of and denigrated DR. EJ’s performance thus far is less than impressive. It is totally appropriate for the press to seek answers. I sure have a lot of questions but there are few answers being provided.

Eddie was right about one thing in epic spray - the Wallabies must stop being reactive and accepting of mediocrity

As a rusted on rugby player, coach and supporter for more that 45 years. I am heartly sick of hearing the players are devastated by a loss and that we will do better next time. Roarers know well where the problems are with Australian rugby. I for one am interested in less talk about what we are going to do, how we are devastated by losing. Less talk more action gents.
