When will the defence coach understand by “pinching in” never works.
In the 56th minute the Blues #15 ran in a try untouched because our 12,13,and 14 all pinched in!!!
The solution is simple.
Shorten the defensive line, play a “one out defence”, which means 10 takes 12, 12 takes 13, 13 takes 15 ,and 14 takes the last attacker whoever it is.
Backfill the gap to our 10 with 7, 8, 9, and 11 all pushing from the inside while 10,12,13, can confidently go about their job knowing the inside is covered .
Wayne Bennett told me many years ago ,the last two defenders take the last two attackers ,no questions asked, and if they did not ,out came the hook!,

Ask Dick Marks about Law changes or Barry Honan ,.
A lot of work has been done by a group involving former Wallabies on this.
The “Experts” as you call them ,had a perfect opportunity to introduce some significant dispensations to law last year ,when only aussie teams played at the start of the SPC. and all they could come up with was ,@ kicking changes that had no material effect on making the game flow.
Danie Craven said ,many years ago ,Laws should reward teams that keep the ball alive ,and punish those who kill it”
That’s the basis of making Laws.
Why then would you introduce a law that rewards a team with a penaly ,who then kicks it out and gets the throwin.?
Here is a sequence that happens in any game of today.
Kick off, forward hit up ,forward hit up, caterpillar ruck, #9 kicks out, 4/5 man l/out ,one pass ,forward hit up ,forward, hit up ,repeat ,repeat ,repeat, knock on, scrum, collapse ,reset ,penalty ,kick to the corner, l/out ,driving maul, try!!! WOW .
That’s not Rugby. If it is ,we are in a lot of trouble
Forward play has highjacked the game .

You remember Lloyd Graham, Roger Gould, Paul McLean of course.
Add to that Matt Burke, Micheal Lynagh,Matt Pini,Chris Latham, and do not forget Campo.
What did they all have in common?
They knew how to “Torpedo” kick and slice off large chunks of territory.
None of this namby pamby “Drop punt” which stays true in flight and easy to catch .
Imagine the ire of the forward pack, having toiled for a long period of time inside your 22,only to get a penalty that barely makes 20 metres, and having to go to work again inside your half ,when a skillful Torpedo with any of the above experts would save all that energy by putting it our on the opposition 22 .Result ,a grateful forward pack.
You are right.
The difference between Gould and McLean was Roger could kick it out of the ground ,whereas Paul would drop it just over the touch on the proverbial sixpence, both gaining equal maximum distance.
The game v the Chiefs was probably the most inept display of kicking I have ever seen in my 60 years of coaching
Why continue to kick easy balls in the field of play to Enzed teams who are very adept at counter attacking with it .
Having been involved with all the above great kickers of the ball over many years,it escapes me to uderstand why D. Alred, the suppossed kicking guru, is not sacked immediately if this is all he can come up with.
