Khawaja was supposed to “stand up” as a senior batsman in the last Ashes series in. aust in 2017, then against India last summer. Failed to do so both series except for a century in a dead rubber. Langer said he was needed this series but continually fails to do so or throws away good starts. Shown up today by the fight by far less experienced colleagues. Warner just reinforces he is a flat track bully without technique required of opener against moving ball. Plus both their catching leaves a lot to be desired ATM.

Of course Steve Waugh would support him – as “special adviser” to the team he’s hardly going to say otherwise. Interesting though…with Steve Waugh no doubt sharing his experience and expertise with the batsmen especially , what’s Hick the batting coach exactly doing?
Australia must drop David Warner
Another chance for UK to deliver a match winning / saving innings goes by……
The curious case of Usman Khawaja
May as well try Marnus at 3 and replace Bancroft with UK where his 30-40s would be great right now and take some pressure off Warner. UK had enough chances at 3 over a few series and just doesn’t seem to have the authority to deliver real match defining innings. Time for someone else. Opposing teams don’t worry about a #3 who can get elegant 40s and rarely go on or can’t scrap it out over 2 sessions if required.
The curious case of Usman Khawaja
Agree with your thoughts , esp on Warner and Lab. Warner’s track record in England doesn’t bode well for him coming good this series. Interested in your thoughts on Usman – he’s a real puzzle as we’ve been hoping for more from a player of his experience and skills for quite a few series now. He just doesn’t inspire any hope to battle through tough circumstances which you want from your #3 when matches are in the balance.
