What about West Coast? They’ll have a stronger line up than last year with Gaff, Shepherd, Nic Nat, plus their younger guys will be better for the experience of 2018.

IMO they’ll be hard to beat at home, and will do enough away to secure top 4 spot, and more likely a top 2 finish, which would almost certainly guarantee another GF decider. Unfortunately.

STEVIE J: My top five teams to watch this AFL season

Hazlewood has had his injury concerns, so on the basis that Richardson is performing well in the ODI side, why not just leave Hazlewood to get 100% fit and firing for the upcoming Ashes series. We wouldn’t want him to get RE-injured in the World Cup and miss the Ashes.

Jhye Richardson is on the verge of stealing Josh Hazlewood's World Cup spot

Lyon should go sooner rather than later. I can’t see Freo winning more than 6-7 games, and if Fyfe goes down with an injury then it’ll be even worse.

Watching Freo live is worse than torture with Lyon’s ultra defensive playing style, relying on turnovers and fast breaks to score unlikely goals.

He’ll ruin the kids in the group and leave a rabble for the next coach if the powers at be at Freo decide to persist with him for too long.

I reckon if Freo are struggling mid year, with no hope of making the 8, I’d cut him then, wear the financial loss and throw some cash at a decent coach.

Under pressure: Every AFL coach's 2019 job security ranked

Maxwell should give up on his Test cricket aspirations and cash in on the various T20 leagues while he’s still at the top of his game.

The Aussie selectors are embarking on a cleanout, and looking for players who are long term prospects.

Is Glenn Maxwell wasting his time in whites?

Where is Travis Head? He’s been a stalwart of our ODI for a couple of years now, and is firmly cemented in the Test side. He’s captain of S.A. and we’ll liked by the other players. He has youth of his side, and would make a decent medium term captain.

Finch on thin ice for World Cup

Cripps is a genuine top 3-5 player. He’s the equal of Nat Fyfe and more durable. Put him in a better team and he would’ve got 40 Brownlow votes. He’s a gun.

They still have a strong list, their main concern, as it has been the last couple of years, is retaining players when they get to their mid 20’s and want to head home with the lure of a big pay packet. The next round of exiting players will dictate their future ie the likes of Cognilio, Cameron, etc. If those sort of players continue the exodus, then they’re in trouble.

GWS: The next expansion club crisis?

The 3 openers who should be included in the Ashes squad are Warner, Harris and Bancroft. Meaning no spot for Burns or Renshaw.

Burns’ technique is flawed against the moving ball given how flat footed he is, whereas Harris and Bancroft both have excellent footwork. Warner, despite being “flawed” is a certainty for England.

Cameron Bancroft has put the Aussie top order on notice

Of course he’s in the Ashes Squad. A ton in his last test match, has a decent technique, and appears to have the ability to graft out tough runs, which the majority of our current top 6 (and recent past players ie Marsh Bros) don’t.

Kurtis Patterson continues to make case for Ashes call up with insane hot streak

Jack Darling In the top 50, seriously? His first GF was an unmitigated disaster, worst player on the ground. His first half last year was terrible, agreed that he stepped up in the 3rd quarter, but if WCE has lost that match after dropping a sitter on the goal line, he would have been forever known as the player who dropped the 2018 AFL Premiership Cup.

No doubt he has improved his consistency, but he’s not in the same league as Gunston, Lynch & Co.
