In November I stopped reading the Roar such was my disappointment with the Wallabies and my disgust with the whole EJ saga.

Today I thought I’d have a peek and very much enjoyed this article about one of my favourite players Russell Fairfax. At age 11/12 he was my absolute favourite player. Then I delve into the comments section and it doesn’t take long to come across the usual slagging off comments. The know alls the know nothings. Life’s too short. See ya!

Russell Fairfax - rediscovering a ‘free spirit’ of the rugby codes

” Not his fault, just “20 years of unsuccessful (Australian) rugby because something’s wrong in the system.”

Rennie’s 2022 team of 20 years of unsuccessful Australian rugby looked on track to make the semis in 2023. I’m sure the people who forked out big cash to go to the RWC thought so. At the end of 2022 if someone had predicted that the only Wallaby victories in 2023 would be against Georgia and Portugal you’d think they were nuts.

Eddie is the worst coach in the history of Rugby and just an absolute grub of a human being. This is the last article about him I’ll ever read. In fact my interest in Rugby generally is decreasing by the minute. International Rugby is a dire spectacle and watching our SR teams in 2024 get smashed yet again (for about the last decade) is not something I’m looking forward to.

'Who cares?': Eddie has no regrets about Wallabies disaster but takes swipes at RA and media

“Secondly, this twittersphere narrative that attacking rugby is the only rugby and defence is its poor cousin is pathetic.”

I have literally never read anyone make that comment on the Roar.

Legacies can't be won: History won't look back kindly on Rassie's Springboks

” I am now looking forward to family weekends, sports matches, school assemblies and birthday parties. ”

You poor simple fool Wayne. I can just picture you in a month’s time, sitting at a school assembly -wild eyed and struggling for breath and saying to yourself ‘What the hell was I thinking??!!’ 😱

'Just a game, k---heads': Why world's top rugby ref has decided to give the game away

Sure they box kicked. Everyone box kicks. That’s the problem. Boring AF.

SPIRO ZAVOS: 'Crazy brave' Boks are a team for the ages - but key decisions cleared their path to glory

Yawn. The Roar was a lot better place to hang before you showed up. Just a colossal bore. When you post comments a 100 times a day on a website in a different hemisphere it’s a sure sign you’ve got problems.

A couple of missed kicks seem to me the main reason NZ lost the WC.

I never edit my comments. They’re always perfect. 😛

The best players in Australia are 80% most likely to be playing League or AFL.

SPIRO ZAVOS: 'Crazy brave' Boks are a team for the ages - but key decisions cleared their path to glory

Yeah maybe. I don’t know. I just know that international Rugby has become boring AF. If box kicks are your idea of a physical contest then sure,

“And the Aus audience is a blip on the radar of the overall RWC audience.”

The Australian audience is a blip on the radar in Australia!! 😱 😂

V8 Supercars? Wow! Not even Bathurst. 😱

That sounds like fun compared to wasting three hours of my life watching box kicks!! 😂

Great idea!! I’ll spend $10k going to Europe and dodging death in SA just to meet some people that are happy watching box kicks!! I’ll get onto the QANTAS website straight away!! 😱 😂

SPIRO ZAVOS: 'Crazy brave' Boks are a team for the ages - but key decisions cleared their path to glory

Apart from Saffers on the Roar I haven’t come across anybody that has a positive thing to say about Rugby in a long time.

I wish my own glaring errors were so sympathetically explained fellow Roarers. 😱

'Completely unfair': Eddie sledge that angered Waugh, new coaching contenders emerge to rebuild Wallabies

It’ll happen once you refresh the page.

SPIRO ZAVOS: 'Crazy brave' Boks are a team for the ages - but key decisions cleared their path to glory

Like nearly every international match this year it was a game of endless stoppages, endless box kicks, endless TMO interference and endless not much happening. The only thing making it interesting was the closeness of the scoreline. Rugby as a spectacle has degenerated in the last couple of years to become basically unwatchable.

SPIRO ZAVOS: 'Crazy brave' Boks are a team for the ages - but key decisions cleared their path to glory

“It’s scary to think how many people probably want to play rugby now in SA after that win.”

It’s scary to think of all the people around the world that won’t be watching test rugby after the dire 2023 season.

SPIRO ZAVOS: 'Crazy brave' Boks are a team for the ages - but key decisions cleared their path to glory

This article almost makes this match sound exciting. For those of us without a dog in the fight it was another example of the snoozefest that Rugby has become in 2023. Three hours of utter tedium. 😔

SPIRO ZAVOS: 'Crazy brave' Boks are a team for the ages - but key decisions cleared their path to glory

With Eddie Jones quickly turning a promising 2022 Wallaby team into an outfit that wouldn’t make the semis of the Shute Shield it didn’t take long for us to lose our dog in the game. Always look on the bright side. I could observe proceedings without feeling any anxiety on the result of any match. If I layed my picks on Betfair I’d be even richer than I already am because not one of them won!!

I must admit I didn’t like what I saw. The matches are interminable. They go for hours. Nothing much happens. Is there any point in centres anymore? (Bundee Aki the exception). The only thing making them remotely interesting is the closeness of the scoreline. Watching forwards do ‘hit ups’ where they are tackled a split second after they catch the ball and are lucky if they make 20cm in territory. Then there’s the box kick. Coaches around the world must have collectively given up on trying to figure out a way to break through defences. Just kick it 20 metres upfield and hope your opponent fumbles it. Riveting stuff. And the ludicrous lead up to taking the box kick. I get a little laugh when the 9 directs a forward or two to stand in front of him so he can be protected by a bit of obstruction. After we get this elaborate and lengthy preparation what does the spectator get for his patience? Nothing much.

Remember when the backs used to do actual backline moves from scrum? That’s so passe. Just wait for the penalty. There’s only about 3000 pointless rules (sorry Laws) regarding scrums and a ref is always happy to oblige. I love the law about the jackler not putting his hands on the ground before stealing the ball. This is mostly ignored -until it isn’t. Just get rid of it. What does it matter? Don’t get me started on all the pitch invaders. The forwards that have to lay down before every set piece. This stuff never bothered me so much when it was on Foxtel because I could fast forward it. Sadly this is not so easy for me with Stan. I find myself sitting there watching Rugby for hours (the Rugby goes for a few seconds at a time the rest is nothing much happening at all) and wondering why??

The World Cup Wrap: France 2023 got a final befitting the host nation - imperfect, baffling and historic

'I'm so pissed off': Eddie open to walking away from Wallabies if it suits RA, sticks knife into Hoops, Quade

Weren’t we told that Rennie was ditched so we could win the 23 RWC? No one mentioned anything about us being a Toyota Corolla.*

* Very harsh on Toyota Corollas. A totally reliable vehicle capable of huge mileage.

So not like Trump.
