I fail to see how any of this has anything to do with Cricket Australia. Sad day though, Symonds was one of my favourites when I was growing up.

RIP ROY: Andrew Symonds, larger than life larrikin of Australian cricket, dies aged 46

Pace looks pretty pointless if all the pitches are going to be like this. I would drop both Hazelwood and Starc. Not sure you would be doing Boland any favours by picking him either.

Swepson would have to be a certainty. Marsh is pretty ordinary as a bowler but he could probably get the job done. I might throw Agar’s hat into the ring as well. Spinners get tired too, so maybe three spinners might help keep them fresh. It will be a throwback to the old days in the sub-continent where the fast bowlers just take the shine off the ball and then you just toss it to your spinners.

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

The fast bowling positions in this team could be an issue. If two spinners are chosen and Green is used as the third seamer that only leaves one other spot for a fast bowler to share the new ball with Cummins.

'Missed opportunity': Five big talking points as Australia’s Test squad to tour Pakistan named

At best Marcus Harris will be a journeyman player where as Green has almost unlimited potential. Khawaja can handle the opener position. Give Green time to fit into his allrounder role.

How many more chances did Mitch Marsh get with far less to show for it?

Future star or not, this is why Cameron Green should be dropped for Hobart Test

I doubt Lyons would make any impact at the SCG. Give him the match off and bring in Swepson.

Aussies consider SCG debut for spinner Swepson

Doesn’t this pretty much make the entire Australian team ineligible for the next test?
I mean they wouldn’t allow Cummins to play because he was in the same restaurant as someone with Covid.

Probably make the rest of the series more interesting if they had to come up with an entirely new team.

Travis Head tests positive for COVID-19, ruled out of SCG Test

No Swepson?

Why the Aussies should select eight bowlers for the SCG Test

Sorry but this is ridiculous. Racism plays no part in the selection of modern cricket players in Australia. It may have been a thing in the past but now all you you need is talent, form and to be honest a fair bit of luck to get the selector’s nod.

Boland deserves another match in Sydney but so do Starc, Richardson and Hazelwood. At least two of those players are going to be disappointed. Actually if I had my way three of them would miss out because I would like to see a spot for Swepson.

Australia shouldn’t get too carried away with its bowling performances against England. My grandma could probably knock over most of the English top order.

The ugly relationship heals a little in Australia’s summer of rejuvenation

So will they drop him to make way for Josh Hazelwood in the next test?

DAY 3 REPORT: 'That's why we love sport'! - Boland delivers Ashes with insane figures of 6-7

What a load of nonsense about Richardson and Neser being rested. I don’t begrudge Boland his chance but one of those guys should have got another game.

They clearly just wanted to have at least one Victorian in the team.

UPDATED: Vic quick to make shock debut, England swing the axe

As much as I respect Hazelwood I think Richardson deserves another test. Even if fit I would rest either him or Starc for the next test. With the Sydney test following straight on from Melbourne I would would be prudent to rest one of our frontline quicks anyway.

FLEM'S VERDICT: 'Bowl-off' looms between new quicks for Boxing Day spot

This puts a lot of pressure on Starc. He has to step up and lead the attack or it could be the end of his test career.

Hazlewood hopeful of MCG return, Warne taunts Huss, No player bubbles despite Cummins 'farce': Talking Points

It is about time Pattinson got an extended run in the Australian side. I wouldn’t mind seeing Mitchell Swepson getting a test match as well.

Pattinson and Head in Australia's best XI for South Africa Tests

I certainly agree with Swepson. A lot are blaming Starc for Australia’s inability to bowl the Indians out but Lyon has never really looked like breaking through either. Really this season Australia has only had two bowlers they could depend on and that clearly isn’t good enough.
Starc looked like he was playing injured to me or perhaps it is just a form slump. Either way i would rest him for the SA tour and give someone else a go.

Maxwell, Neser and Swepson should play in South Africa

You can’t afford to carry passengers in your bowling attack. If his form is down then give others a go.

Is Mitchell Starc lucky to still be playing Test cricket?

Green should move to five and forget about his bowling for the time being. He seems a good batsman but looks a very ordinary bowler. Let him just concentrate on his batting for the time being. Pick an allrounder like Henriques or Neser at six.
Leave Starc at home. He is out of form or playing injured, either way he would probably benefit from some time off.
I would also find a spot for Swepson … and in the test team as well. I would hang onto Paine as captain for the moment but he is on notice.

My Australian Test squad to face South Africa

I am going to take a radical position and say that Cameron Greens future in the Australian team should be as a batsman. Forget his bowling move him to five and tell him he is a batsman now. He should be allowed to just concentrate on his batting for now. There are a number of all rounders you could probably slip into the six spot. Glen Maxwell probably deserves another go.

Depth issues mean few changes for South Africa tour

The Australian team is carrying a lot of deadwood at the moment and other options need to be explored. If the SA tour goes ahead I would rest a number of players. Leave Starc at home, he has been playing injured all season so he needs time off anyway. There are a number of other options available for the third seamer spot. I would like to see Mitch Swepson given a go as well. Lets face it Lyon has never been all that effective at bowling teams out in the last innings and that cost Australia dearly against India. Batting isn’t as easy. Not a lot of people sticking up their hands. Pucovski will be back but Wade needs replacing and there aren’t a lot of players I would be willing to advocate for.

No changing of the guard, but hard selection calls required for Australia

Certainly, with Bradman, we are talking different eras. Any comparisons are pretty trite. But I wonder if Bradman would still average 99.94 in today’s game.

Constantly jumping between different forms of the game, going up against a more professional opposition, having his technique picked apart on video replays looking for every tiny flaw in his game … things can be pretty tough for the modern player.

The summer of Marnus

I don’t understand how climate change has become a political issue. Climate change is not an ideology … it is science backed up with a ton of empirical evidence.

Time for sport to realise climate change is its fight, too

Was Smith ever a frontline leggie?

Swepson ready to be Australia's first front-line leggie since Smith

It isn’t so much a case of could Labuschagne put in some long spells as a leggie but rather should he spend too much time bowling. He is the first drop batsman. We don’t need him coming into bat early having spent that day bowling.

I would actually play both Nesser and Swepson. I would rest two of Cummings, Stark or Wade

Mitchell Swepson's chances of Test debut still up in the air

I am not sure any of those three could be considered lock-ins but they should be right till the next domestic season. I am sure the selectors are still looking for a quality allrounder so neither Head or Wade should consider their position safe. Also Burns has really only had an average summer so far so I don’t think he has tied up his position just yet.

Joe Burns, Matthew Wade and Travis Head are here to stay

I would probably have Hazelwood in front of Wagner. Rashid Khan is an interesting choice but with only three tests and those being against the lowly ranked teams. I would go with Ravi Ashwin for the spinners spot.

The 2019 Test cricket team of the year

Warne has a big wrap for this guy. I could be just because he is a fellow leggie or it might be because he is something special.

Either way I am looking forward to seeing a leggie in action.
