As a Bulldogs supporter I was gutted. Had some friends who went to the game and I think they suffered more than anyone! Haha What an exciting team this promises to be, as per other comments on here though you can only hope they retain the nucleus of their team and learn to be consistent, also the board at times needs to give itself an uppercut. Here’s hoping they can get it together long term!

Tigers the team to watch in 2015

Benedict Arnold, very well said Sir! You’ve hit the nail on the head, thank you so much for sharing.

Dogs of War, I agree totally with you, although I am little biased… 😉 I’ve heard Des is super close to all his players, and he still is in regular contact with half the Manly squad. We’re lucky to have him.

Supporting Darius' struggle with depression

Hi Barry,

Mate totally appreciate your honesty and you have very valid points. I can respect that you don’t particularly care for a person but still wish them well, I think the debate is well and truly alive though. As I mentioned in the above comment someone like Darius is skewered in the court of public opinion, which might lend some people to downplay the effect of depression on a person’s behavior. I agree that a diagnosis of depression does not wipe the slate clean, but I think that him being stood down, paying damages to the Hotel, checking himself into a Clinic to get better, is at the moment sufficient. Thanks again for your honesty mate, appreciate it.

Supporting Darius' struggle with depression

Hey Cathar, Pot Stirrer (what a great handle!) and V.O.R,

Thanks for your great input and articulation of what is a really serious issue. There is a real lack of empathy to be found, I think it probably derives from people being a little jaded with all the negative press NRL players can generate, you sometimes can’t help but think “Oh not again, what did they do this time?!”
Unfortunately that means that person is skewered in the court of public opinion, which makes dealing with a private and crippling mental illness much harder. Best of luck to him and his family.

Supporting Darius' struggle with depression

Hey Gazzatron,
Sorry to hear your brother is suffering too mate, I wish him nothing but the best. I honestly and truly hope it’s not a cover up and am willing to give not only Darius, but the people around him who are involved intimately in the situation the benefit of the doubt. Hope that all works out well for your brother and by and large your family who are no doubt supporting him. Cheers mate.

Thanks Tony, and mate I’ve tried. It’s hopeless. She’s as entrenched as she’s ever going to get. Worst part? My brother is a Roosters supporter, my neighbour across the hall is a Roosters supporter and we live in the St George area down the road from Kogarah oval. I’m fighting the good fight though mate!

Pritchard just one of league's many good guys

Haha Ahh Mushi, that’s probably the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me… And although being a Hybrid of Fred Hollows and Don Draper would be epic, alas, I am not, she still gives me a hard time about being a Doggies supporter. (Even after Frank Pritchard was nice enough to come to her Engagement party and wish her all the best! The gaul of some people! Haha)

Hey Don,

Mate definitely agree with all that. I can’t say I’ve ever met Petero but from everything I’ve heard he is the Ultimate Gentleman. Would love to sit down and pick his brain about some War Stories over a beer, and something tells me he’d gladly be up for it. I don’t know what the solution is but I do know that somehow we need to be talking more and more about these guys. All the best mate.

Thanks Kingcowboy, and I totally agree, it’s a major disappointment my fiance is a Roosters supporter! Haha

Hey Max,

My mate is the absolute epitome of a Bulldogs supporter so it’s no surprise he got over the line in the end! Haha You’re right, Frank is held in very high esteem, really proud to support and cheer on such a humble and thoughtful man. All the best mate.

Thanks for sharing Parrafan, it’s exactly what I’m talking about. To listen to a lot of the ‘big wigs’ you’d think most League players are atrocious but it’s simply not true. They’re really wonderful people who a lot of the time make time for their fans. I’ve heard about the time guys like Tim Mannah and Jarryd Hayne give back. For every article putting League down there should be 5 lifting it up.

Thank you Kiwiinoz, and my fiance assures me the wedding plans are coming along just fine.. Haha You’re right, plenty of gentlemen playing the sport, we just need to talk about them and make them visible (more so..)

It wouldn’t surprise me, his wife told us that during the regular season they can be a bit pressed for time, but outside of that they do their best to get around and see as many people as they can. They’re not compelled to do it by management, they just do it. It’s their own time they’re giving up but are happy to do it because they appreciate the fans.

Thank you Craig, both for the compliment and your sentiment. We need to be talking about stuff like this constantly. Really appreciate it mate, thanks again for reading.
