Broncos haven’t played badly. A real solid first half from the Dogs. Woods playing really well and I like Klemmer off the bench. Changes playing soundly so far.
Second half fade outs are a regular occurrence for the blue and whites…

Ha true! It’s all about degrees … Just seen Campbell- Gillard interviewed. He appears to be a Rhodes Scholar compared to our Dave.

Klemmer lacks the smarts to be a great footballer …

Too much one out footy from the Dogs. Great effort but not enough quality with the ball.

Panthers have that quality with Maloney…

Astounding .. befuddling … outrageous … and typical of the selectors.
Maxwell has the wrong surname.

This Canterbury hooker is a handy prospect ….

They do look rudderless in attack. Think there will be some improvement in the second half.

Funny that whenever the Dogs are leading it’s instantly assumed that three opposition are playing poorly (also happened against Manly).

Drags aren’t going great but considering the penalty count it just be said that the Dogs playing well. if they get 50% of the ball, retain their desire, get Faitala-Mariner on, and get some penalties they can go on and win.

Where’s this been all year?!? Great play, Doggies.

Reynolds kicking game is abysmal.
The supercoach doesn’t drop balls, miss tackles etc; he is responsible for the game plan:
hit up, hit up, hit up, hit up, hit up, kick 30 m to full back.

Ben Barba made the game plan effective.
The Dogs have been pedestrian ever since he left and that is on Des.

I like the look of that side.
it’ll be interesting to see how Lynn and Head go over the next few years.
They, along with Wade look a little streaky and possibly unsuited to English conditions (thinking about the 2019 WC in the UK).

Faulkner's batting has waned but his bowling has improved

God no. Only Hussey had come close to Bevan’s performance in that role and they were both exceptional batters. But i think Faulkner could rotate the strike adequately in the middle overs and get himself in before going the tonk. Atleast give him a few games to have an opportunity to hit a score. Batting at 8 is unforgiving.
I like the idea of handscomb keeping, it enables you to play 4 proper bats plus him.

Faulkner's batting has waned but his bowling has improved

I find it interesting that the powers that be can’t wait to get Mitch Marsh up the order yet Faulkner is stuck at 7 or 8.
Giving Faulkner a few opportunities at 6 to play a ‘bevan’ role and id expect that he’d do nicely.
A future team with Handscome keeping at 6 and Faulkner 7 with a hitter like Marsh at 8 and I’d say we’d be looking pretty formidable at the next World Cup.

Faulkner's batting has waned but his bowling has improved

Getting an umpire in there for special analysis would be great.
Bringing in another o/s commentator (Waqar has done a good job and his presence reduces to yob banter that Slat, Tubs and co revel in) would also help, as would having a journo on the comms team.
Purging 2 of Slats, Tubs, Heals and Warnie would make for a balanced box.

Let's get some former umpires in the commentary box

And on cue he gets a few wickets…

Reports: Stephen O’Keefe in line for Test spot

Indian quicks did better than the Poms but it was the spinners who destroyed them.
We need 20 wickets and a balanced attack is needed. 3 Quicks and 2 spinners.
Maxwell or Faulkner playing as the 5th bowler.
The selectors probably won’t take either.
Maybe they’ll be swayed by David’s article and unveil Cummins as our all rounder?????

Australia needs pace in India, not spin

Warner
Khawaja
Smith
Hanscombe
S Marsh
Maxwell
Nevill
SOK
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

Subs: Renshaw Sweepson/Agar Faulkner Sayers

Khawaja deserves a go in India. At the top of the order he has his best chance of getting bat on ball before Ashwin comes on in the 5th over.

India are batting big at present and we need 5-6 bowling options. Tight spin bowling is vital and SOK can provide this. This will allow Starc to have regular, short bursts at India’s batsman.

Despite being on the nose, Maxwell should be a no brainer. Can give you 15- 20 overs a day at 3-4 an over and is the world’s best fieldsman. Sure, he hasn’t done anything with the bat in tests yet, but assure him of a spot for the whole series and watch him flourish… hopefully!

Depending on the pitch, i’d be tempted to play Faulkner instead of our second Frontline spinner. While India have the wood on him in ODIs, if he focuses on seam up and off cutters he could be effective. Plus having him at 8 would be invaluable.

Considering how many rh bats India has, i would be happy for Agar to tour as well.

Picking a team to win in India

He’s in imperious form.
If he can replicate it in the Champions Trophy and then the World Cup he will be the greatest Australian ODI player.

Storm Warning: David Warner has finally arrived in ODIs

Renshaw hardly rotated the strike and this could be an issue down the track. He also had more misses than an 80 year old texan billionaire. Chasing a total where one guy is bogged down heaps pressure on his partner.

Fortunately, Renshaw knuckled down and got the job done.
On debut. It is a great effort.
He should get the Pakistan series to work on complimenting his fine temperament with some placement to get off strike. Otherwise an Indian tour will be very difficult for him.

Problem with Renshaw's strike rate? You don't know Test cricket

Agreed.
There’s only Kogarah or Shark Park to base a Southern Sydney team with Kogarah being equidistant to the SFS and Cronulla.
St George people already interested in Sydney FC won’t have a bar of a Cronulla team – logistically it’s easier to get a train to Central, have a few beers at the Exhibition and then onto the SFS.

A south west team or even a northern Sydney team would be my choice.

Regional centres make sense as well – Tassie, Canberra, Geelong and the Gong. If they only draw max 10000 that’s no big deal. Let’s expose more Aussie players took top level football.

Expansion of the A-League is a must - but only if it's done right

Would love to see them go with the 4 quicks. This would allow Starc to bowl in short bursts while letting the other 3 quicks keep it tight and work the batsmen over. Smith and Maddinson to bowl a few overs when some variety is needed (this is where it would have been great to have Maxwell at 6) as well as get through the overs.

Lyon is a solid spinner and could obviously do a job but it would be best for him to go back to the Shield and get some overs under his belt. As mentioned, he is rarely a matchwinner and at present, he is leaking runs. Furthermore, he offers nothing with the bat. Looks like a bloke who should ave 20 yet gets out to loose shots more often than not.

He needs games out of the spotlight (when is O’Keefe fit?) before the Indian series.

Lyon's had his share, play Sayers and Bird tomorrow

Obviously the coverage surrounding the meeting was unfortunate and Turvey speaking out was ill-advised. Despite being a great clubman, Mortimer is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Nonetheless, the board were right to put it to Des. Despite making the finals in all his 5 years at the helm, the squad and standard of play has gone backwards since the exciting days of 2012. The depth is no loner there and the lower grades are performing poorly. He is rightfully on notice.
The buck stops with Des and his coaching staff. He gained a lot of credit from that 2012 season and that has seen him demand and receive complete control over the most facets of the club. Now that credit has well and truly been wiped – he is in the red. Most Dogs fans are over him and the stodgy style of play, the grind, the completions, the 6th tackle options that he coaches into the squad. I’d happily take a 9th place finish next year where we actually play some football than have to sit through the crap we dish up each week as we limp into the finals and prepare ourselves for another quick exit..

Des Hasler survives as Bulldog coach, but Steve Mortimer a casualty
