Why the AFL trumps all world sports

No Perry. I live in the business world of 2017.
Only a very naive person would not realise the game between codes to poach young people. Sure it’s an investment for the AFL but for a school that had no money for posts of the main sports played it really backfired with large numbers of parents complaining. The kids barely know what AFL is let alone play it. But like nth shore oval, the tactic is to put on posts to make in ‘our patch, our game’. To ‘ normalise it’ to AFL. Again I understand and actually appreciate that the AFL has the money and right to promote their game,.and they need to in a small pool of domestic fish….but to think non AFL fans will just go along for the ride and accept that power is just nonsense. The upshot of the school situation was that at a higher educational level the dept admitted they got it wrong and turned the AFL posts into rugby and soccer posts but kept those two little posts still in there. At least the kids now get to play the sports they play on weekends.

Why the AFL trumps all world sports

It certainly is amongst soccer fans who only know too well the tactics played by AFL administration to win the code battle, especially grassroots players. Let’s call it for what it is…..the codes have only a certain pool of players and fans to entice. The last straw for me was the AFL making a financial donation to my son’s public primary school on condition AFL posts were installed in the main oval. This is despite hardly anyone playing the sport. Virtually all the kids play soccer or rugby league. Never ever will I ( and i believe most soccer fans in NSW) support the advancement of AFL locally. I get that people like the game…..but the real battle is what is happening off the pitch.

Why the AFL trumps all world sports

I’m glad you like ‘our” sport. As an older Sydneysider I actually see AFL perhaps as foreign as you can get. Happy to see ‘my’ team the swans lose each week if it helps even a little bit the plight of round ball football. I did go to a swans game once in the early days. I did give it a go, but 100-10 or so at half time led me to leave. Ho hum. Interesting your kids turned on the EPL. I do too find that too a bit sterile with its soul removed. Here’s a trick…..watch or go to Sydney FC this weekend like me. Local and vocal with a very young crowd on average.
