So the brilliant Joe Schmidt (former Irish coach), is in reality the head coach, and Foster is the Manager & PR officer.

It might be a 'friendly' - but taking on the Boks at Twickenham is still oh so crucial for the All Blacks

Lynagh is a talented flyhalf with the natural instincts that will see him improve.
However he really does need to work on his defence. The number of times he has been brushed aside when tackling in his 3 games is quite embarrassing. A number of tries have been scored that wouldn’t have been if he’d tackled properly.
Where’s the defense coach?

'Relieved, frustrated': Young gun's double helps Reds scrape home against Fiji in penalty-a-thon

Eddie was able to have a very close look at the Wallaby players during the three test series with England last year. A good coach doesn’t just scrutineer his own squad, but the opposition squad at the same time.

'Major coup': Rennie axed with Eddie Jones returning as Wallabies coach on mammoth deal for two Cups

It was obvious that with Rennie at the helm, the Wallabies were not going to win the world cup this year, very well get to the semi finals.
Jones is the only long term choice.
Australian Rugby will now have some long term consistancy, through this year’s and the 2027 (at home) rugby world cups, along with the British & Irish Lions tour in 2025.

'Major coup': Rennie axed with Eddie Jones returning as Wallabies coach on mammoth deal for two Cups

‘that Queensland was not good enough to play them so refused to play the interstate match in 1963. I think that decision has come back to bite them on the bum.’ – that, and the fact that a Waratahs player always got the nod over a Queensland player for the Wallabies. Case in point was McGill, the Waratahs fullback, being selected over Lloyd Graham, who was the proverbial mile ahead in all departments.

'Those pies come with sauce?': Reds-Tahs' sledging and how it's fuelled by State of Origin

Is ‘Matt Cleary’ the pen name for Darren Coleman? 😁

Super Rugby Radar: Only way is up as Hooper and Coleman have Tahs fans frothing

A 5 is at the top of the lower half of 1 – 10.
A 5.5 is at the bottom of the top half.
So a fail, and probably a good call at 5.

Wallabies DIY player ratings from the Scotland Test: The results

I’d think a number of the two pacific teams will see an influx of players returning from Europe & Japan, even taking big pay reductions to play in an upmarket Super 12 comp.

Two Pacific Island teams given green light to join Super Rugby in 2022

The first game against the Brumbies is sooo important for the Force.
A win, or a near loss, will set them up in particular for sides like the Waratahs & the Rebels.
They will obtain confidence if the above result happens, and will help them jell as a team.
But the opposite can be said if the Ponies give them a toweling.

The Roar's Super Rugby AU season preview: Western Force

The momentum favors the Reds over the Brumbies in the pending final on Saturday night. Why?
If you look at the past 3 games this year, there is a trend.
The first game , in Canberra, on 31 Jan, where the Brumbies enjoyed home ground advantage , they won 27 -24; a 3 point difference.
The second game, again in Canberra, on 1st Aug, was won in extra time 22 -20 by the home side through a penalty.
The next game between the two sides, saw the Reds enjoying home town advantage, whereby they towelled the Brumbies 26 – 7.
We are seeing in the Reds a young side on the rise, gaining in confidence, experience, & strength, while the Brumbies have probably enjoyed their moment in the sun.

Three talking points from the Super Rugby AU qualifying final

The Ashes?
I thought that the ashes was the burning of bails over 100 years ago & put into a small urn, which England & Australia have fought over ever since.
I’m all for women’s sport, but to call the women’s cricket games between the Australian & England women’s teams the Ashes is just not right!
Is the New Zealand women’s national rugby team called the All Blacks..no
Is the Australian women’s rugby league team called the Kangaroos..no.
The Australian men’s hockey team is called The Kookaburras, and the women’s team The Hockeyroos.
That’s all good, so don’t call a test series between the Australian women’s team & the England women’s team The Ashes, because its not.

Meg Lanning breaks an extraordinary record as Australia take The Ashes

>jamesH,
Forget about “grossly unfair”.
This is a world championship, where if the selectors don’t get it spot on, then it’s a fast journey for the team to the airport for the trip home.
You have to pick the form team, and if Marsh is not ‘in form’, then he doesn’t get selected.
I actually think Marsh would be the first to appreciate that.

Why Australia should be optimistic about the World Cup

I would love to see a team in the competition with a harlequin pattern.
And if the team was smart it would use a colour blend that had a camouflage effect like below.
Then match officials wouldn’t notice infringements as much.
This might be why the Reds changed from Red to Maroon, a darker colour harder to spot.

Every team's 2019 Super Rugby jersey ranked

The team is starting to sort itself out, and the next round of matches against Pakistan should fine tune the first eleven.
My thinking is: Warner, Khawaja, Turner, Smith, Maxwell, Handscomb (C & WK), Starc, Cummins, Richardson, Zampa, Lyon.
Handscomb to captain, in that he would have Smith & Warner to advise him like Kolhi has Dahni to assist him. Finch’s batting is currently not up to international standard & I don’t think Khawaja has the where-for-all to command the respect of the team.

Australia stun India with 3-2 series win

The RWC is a tournament.
It will be like the annual Nations Championship (except for the 4th year when the RWC is played) on super steroids, especially as it is proposed that from 2023 the RWC will play more teams.
I feel that the entire concept is forward thinking, and will gain global acceptance.
Currently, even football doesn’t have a Nations Championship, though I’ll bet they’ll keep a close eye on the NC’s progress

Pacific Nations may not get snubbed after all as World Rugby unveils Nations Championship details

Nick, I think your analysis of standings for the teams is an interesting read.
Of course it will be open to criticism, but that adds some zest to it. Keep it up.
As the season progresses and there is more input, so too will the analysis become more testing.

Super Rugby Power Rankings 2019: Round 2

It really is too early to comment on players form for Wallaby selection.
However when the time comes for selection, O’Connor & Scott Johnson are their own men. If they both feel certain changes should be made, I think Cheika will have no choice but to agree. Particular as Johnson’s position will be senior to Chieka, and that Chieka’s track record has significantly deteriorated in terms of wins/loses.
If Chieka’s record had been good, then RA probably would not have felt compelled to bring in selectors. Maybe RA is also aware of the man love Cheika has for certain players, but that changes need to be made, and that this was the subtlest way.

The Wallabies need to drop some of their Waratahs stalwarts

But if your plan includes the first punch in the face before your opponent gets the opportunity, then you have a very good plan

Thorn’s cultural revolution at Reds set for first examination

Is that when they go overseas?

How does Australia find a world-class No.8?

JP, I have to agree with you re Toua; he’s an embarrassment the way he runs beside an opposition attacking player going for a try. He’s the sort of fullback I’d have loved to play against in my younger days.

Thorn's 'new direction' Reds look eerily similar to old, bad Reds

South Africa vs Australia: First Test preview, prediction

‘Sio is the only player to be in Paul Cully’s “team of the week” 5/5 weeks in a row so on current form he’s out-playing Slipper ‘.
I would’nt take a lot of notice of that impression. Cully nearly always only picks players from winning teams.

My realistic Wallabies team for the Rugby World Cup

If we have scrum free kicks instead of scrum penalties (good idea), why not have it that a tap kick, or a punt kick be the rule. At the time of the free kick been given, the infringing side must be diligently retreating to the 10 metre mark.
But no further scrum.

The scrum is a blight on rugby and needs to be fixed

Folau has all the attributes for the #13 jersey, he’s big, fast, extremely agile, and is coming on re experience at rugby.
As for the Wallabies, he has a significant competitor in that position in Kurindrani from the Brumbies, who on last years form would have to be regarded as one of the better players for Australia.

Folau up front and centre for Waratahs
