That was great Ryan!
Congratulations and I’m insanely jealous!

Random observations from the experience of a lifetime: Sitting courtside at a Lakers game

Great insight CR.

Many thanks.

What does South Africa's poor Test attendance mean for the format's future?

Excellent comment.

Red and Black Blockheads

Morning David,

Not sure we agree on this.
Before play the pub banter was 300 would be a good score on this deck (after much deliberation on how the pitch would be prepared due to the drought conditions prior to play). Give the S.A bowlers some credit though, the pitch didn’t really give the pace attack much to work with yet they toiled masterfully.
Bancroft (bizarrely) threw his wicket away, Khawaja faced a gem, Warner likewise prodded at a testing delivery. Smith admittedly played a shot I’m sure he regretted instantly – being too close to his body to cut.
In any event, lets see what the South Africans bring to the table when they get their chance. In the interim, MMarsh, Paine and the tail will get us close to 350 with a mix of patience, strokeplay and bludgeoning.
Still see us in the box seat…until we bowl.

Australia below par in the first Test at Durban

Ha! Good ol’ Royal Edi. Still gets a wry grin everytime I go down Edi Rd.

The best golf courses you should play before you kick the bucket

Bit rough gil – 140+ thunderbolts and a crack that would make Tony Grieg giddy is hard enough without the water!

That’s a shocking look….

Isn’t the Head Groundsman moving to the East Coast for his next gig? Or am I mistaken?
Either way it was a poor look yesterday when that first storm rolled through and the square covering was billowing like a sail from the Sydney to Hobart.
It’s a shame the weather has played such a part in the WACA’s last stand – hopefully we get some play and a result and the old girl can go out in style.

Concur Scott,
half an eye on the clock and too often the conservative play comes out.

Wishing I could watch it 🙁
Many, many thanks for the blog Scott!
Decent crowd?

Ahhh but it’s all about the timing PeterK!
Baseless story designed to deflect attention away from what is more than likely be an absolute smashing and the English returning home 0-5.
Whilst I don’t disagree that fixing occurs in any and all forms of sport, your points above and the timing of this release does raise a quizzical eyebrow.

UPDATE: James Sutherland, ICC react to third Ashes Test spot-fixing claims

Dizzy,
How do you see pace bowling in it’s current iteration worldwide? What are your thoughts and frustrations with the fast bowling contingent of today?

Tell us: What questions do you want to ask Jason Gillespie?

Bravo SM!!
Got a mid arvo office chuckle out of me.
Thanks!!

Hi Josh,
if they use 11 for Stringer how do they land the preferred option in Saad?

AFL trade news and rumours Day 5 live blog

What chance Justin, that the narrative for the fight goes as predicted for the first 2 odd rounds – with McGregor looking to land the knockout blow but Mayweather putting on another defensive clinic – and then as McGregor tires just continually closes the space and gets DQ?
Is that a potential outcome for a rematch and another squillion dollars or do you think there will be a clause in the original contract about earnings and DQ?

Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor preview and prediction

I’m not going to argue with you, enjoy.

Saints' Riewoldt to confirm AFL retirement

Do we? Who knows what would have happened. We may lose by more…or we might have won.

Saints' Riewoldt to confirm AFL retirement

Or a goal review in the year before….
Champion of our club and the game, if the lads cant run through walls and win the next four for a chance at finals for the bloke then they don’t deserve to play AFL

Saints' Riewoldt to confirm AFL retirement

Come on mate!!
I just gave your mob a decent wrap and you’re firing broadsides at us!!! 😛
FWIW I agree with our inconsistency – our best is fantastic, but the other end is…just putrid. It’s soul destroying seeing the club put up games like GWS and Richmond and then capitulate against the Bombers (the Sydney game I’m not too fazed about, playing the potential premiers up there where we havent won since Jeebus was a boy…)
Personally, I put it down to the gameplan of high speed, pressure intensity – if the lads are off even by a little bit that pressure and run and gun play style falls in a heap and we get picked apart, and then the downhill confidence just snowballs.

But we are a young side (Roo, Monty – who will probably retire – and Gilbert notwithstanding) we have a decent back 6, are probably 2 classy mids away from a formidable midfield and have numerous hopeful prospects for the forward line. I like our prospects and the timeframe for finals as outlined by the club was always 2018 – I suspect after they managed the retirements of a few star players.

Always hopeful – Go Saints

St Kilda at the crossroads

Perhaps you should Green?
The Lions are playing some impressive footy and some of their young brigade;
Scottish handbag, Hipwood and Andrews in particular are fantastic to watch.
Coupled with Zorko the Magnificent, Rockliff, Rich, Beams and Robertson (sorry, I had to include him – unabashed mancrush) the Lions are looking pretty good.
..and Fages can coach which helps

St Kilda at the crossroads

Helmets don’t do anything for concussion Paul, the brain still rattles inside the skull in an impact situation. The padding only prevents the skin from opening up in a cut situation.

http://concussion.weillcornell.org/does-helmet-protect-me-against-concussion

Anecdotally I can attest to this; as a junior i was told to wear a helmet or not play by my parents and was still knocked out 3 times in a single match in a lightning prem.
All up I was knocked out 8 or 9 times in my junior days and attribute my “brain fog” to it currently. It’s a genuine concern and something I follow fairly closely.

As a Saints member, I hope Paddy can string together a set of games and show the comp why he was so highly rated but at the same time i seriously worry for his future wellbeing. So many NFL players have taken their own lives as a result of multiple head knocks.

St Kilda at the crossroads

I loved the meta of Robertson and Martin during that match!
I love his niggle, pity he was reamed by the umps who gifted Martin a goal. Even Dermy (maybe? i forget the commentator at the time) was saying it was a guess by the ump.

AFL Team of the Week: Round 17

When will the media start calling out the bs of the MRP??
Webster gets 2 matches and Martin gets off for *exactly* the same incident.
zero consistency = zero faith by the public

But then again, Webster isnt a Victorian in Brownlow contention…

AFL Team of the Week: Round 17

Crows should win this in a landslide. Betts will have a day out and I don’t even want to think how many joe the goose’s Josh Jenkins will get.
They are some serious ‘ins’ for the Crows and this might be the game that starts a series of games that we saw in the early half of the year.
Otten to the backline adds some hardness and lets Lever and Talia free to do what they do best.
