Gould never played Aussie Rules at his high school. Only rugby was offered, and if you “chose” not to train and play, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons were spent cleaning up the school grounds.

Roger Gould: Cool as a cucumber

Why is Quade’s third-to-last pass to Ikitau in the build-up to Koroibete’s try being called “sublime”? Looked like a pretty stock standard transfer to me. And his game was all downhill after that.

'Disaster': Wallabies hammered by Boks as Eddie Jones' return falls flat

Where can I find a list of Japan-based players who CAN make this next tour???

How many Spring Tour questions have been answered by Australia A players in Japan?

I’m surprised you didn’t include ’91, ’95, and ’03 too…

As a New Zealander, this is why I don't like the World Cup

Tries his guts out with ball in hand. Spends way too long getting off the ground in both attack and defense, and like Beale almost always chooses the blind side of the ruck/maul once he’s upright. He will occasionally lean on said ruck/maul, but rarely runs back to his rightful position. This weekend’s game he was perhaps even more obvious.

Waratahs winning ugly sure beats the hell out of losing

Beale is always generally mediocre. He and Kerevi are the laziest centres in professional rugby, always spending time hiding defensively, and walking everywhere unless they’re directly involved. Folau is cut from the same cloth.

Waratahs winning ugly sure beats the hell out of losing

His defensive abilities in reading the line are also pretty ordinary. He leaks a lot of tries against an organized and smart (ie kiwi) team…

Reds centres aim for point of difference

I went to this morning’s Sydney Morning Herald online and loaded the Rugby Union page. The first FIVE articles were about Rugby League. That’s the sound of rugby, blowin’ in the wind…

Why the answers for Australian rugby are blowin’ in the wind

Mark Ella, when asked about the RWC, after a loooong pause, said that Australia will likely “make the top 8” at best – not much of a ringing endorsement from someone who loves the Wallabies, and really wants them to do well…

England hammer Wallabies: Six talking points

It’s excellent spin. I think perhaps there may be more to the story than we’re being told…

Beale and Ashley-Cooper stood down after breaching team protocol

Clearly the list is ridiculous. How could the world’s greatest fullback/winger/#13 not be at the top? I mean, he’s just been given a four-year deal worth over $10million – that’s proof alone that he might possibly be the greatest rugby player of all time. To leave Izzy out is just folau…oops…typo!…folly…

No Australians in World Rugby Player of the Year shortlist

There were many secrets to the “golden era wallabies”. They played club rugby first and foremost, and most took years to be considered for test duty. A LOT of them had tertiary educations – not in itself a guarantee of smarts, but a surety that life outside rugby DID exist. A LOT of them had jobs – real jobs – and ergo some contact with real people in the real world. Those that didn’t have jobs weren’t driving around in fancy European cars given to them by sponsors. Not a single one of them took daily photographs of themselves, and posted their thoughts to an adoring global audience. They all had mates who would tell them to pull their heads in if they started getting too uppity in the public bar. And enough of them – most of them – were surprised and grateful for everything that came their way, rather than expecting it all.

How do the Wallabies regain the composure of times past?

Quade has been “(mis)managed” ever since he was first signed – by letting his churlish behaviour continue unchecked for years, by never insisting he learn to tackle, by never insisting he learn to kick in general play, by “mediating” his police charges to allow him to continue playing, etc etc etc. Sure he has pulled his head in the last few years (and magically his game has somewhat improved) but there’s a reason why Melbourne have signed a 30 year-old for only one year…

Why aren't we talking about Quade Cooper?

This is the guy that fanboys want back in the reds and Wallabies side. Seriously? His acolytes will no doubt say it’s the quality of his support that lets him down, but other, more measured brains, will see that earning $650k playing club rugby has done nothing for his skills…

Quade Cooper back to his polarising best in the NRC

IF what you say is true, why would Cooper pony up $40k to avoid a court battle? IF he was innocent, surely he’d fight the charges in court, which would cost far less than he paid the two students after “mediation”. Let’s not even mention the “driving whilst under suspension” conviciton. Cooper has maturity problems that won’t ever be resolved as long as he’s treated like a superstar…

Cooper could have just as easily starred in league
