Australian football and Gaelic football both have a far better chance of expanding in any meaningful sense than American Football.
Gaelic football has a decent profile in some parts of the USA, the only reason why it is not bigger is because it has sought a low profile and not actively pursued any sort of growth outside of expats.
AFL missing its chance to send the game global
There has been a special relationship going back 150 years in this country between football and cricket, no such relationship exists between Australian football and soccer.
Thousands of clubs across Australia share their grounds, club houses, many players and indeed officials between football and cricket particuarly at community level.
If soccer people are thinking that the AFL cost them the world cup, then they are clearly myopic.
Also at the top level many grounds are also shared.

Always appeared to me to be the cat who got the cream, FIGJAM will IMO end up being a good coach but he will need to come down quite a few pegs.
I always thought he was quite a selfish player who took everything on his own shoulders, must learn to share the load and trust.
Buckley faces heat after Collingwood loss
@ Big Al, no such thing as a king hit anymore, it has been renamed a coward punch and IMO a good thing to, although i dont think Vickerys shot was a king hit or coward punch
Vickery apologises for Cox hit
The AFL teams both have waiting lists for memberships, thousands of people on waiting lists, the rugby and soccer teams don’t
You can play soccer and rugby at the new stadium and they will, you cant play Australian football or cricket at a rectangular one.
Brisbane Lions deep in debt
Yep, worked that one out, what you say is correct, however Vickery went way past what is acceptable and should pay the price.
Althoough as i said, i don’t think he meant to connect that well.
And besides never liked Richmond anyway, bunch of thugs really.
Perhaps only Carlton at the peak of its powers was more arrogant than Richmond when it was winning premierships.
Vickery apologises for Cox hit
His eyes may have been on the ball but his peripheal vision knew where Cox was the whole time, meant to make it look like an accident and obviously did not intend to connect as well as what he did.
Are you seriously trying to tell me that he did not know where Coxs head was ??!! …. he knew.
4 weeks IMO.
Vickery apologises for Cox hit
Agreed, the crowds have been good, bar a couple and the club has been bad, bar a couple.
Brisbane Lions deep in debt
Why don’t we just have a big Melbourne 4 or 5 and leave it at that.
Your post is just garbage.
Brisbane Lions deep in debt
Poor Bruce, i dont need to be an accountant to see that you are far from balanced !.
Brisbane Lions deep in debt
They were unlucky with Fevola, dam unlucky, the membership base from memory really grew with his signing but dropped the next year.
But they did have the chance to really cement the club with the huge profits they generated through the 3peat, they should have done a lot better.
Brisbane Lions deep in debt
Good and bad news,
Yes they are in significant debt, and they don’t win many games with a average list, a membership base that does not seem to like or trust the board.
On the positve side, there is a strong sizeable base of community football in Brisbane underpinning the LIons, the academy will start throwing up some good local footballers, the Lions club @ springwood has almost payed for itself and will produce million $ profits for the club.
There is a sizable base of local support for the club that needs to be turned into membership as it was 5 years ago and as evidenced by the crowd last night.
SE QLD can support 2 AFL clubs, that should not be up for discussion.
Brisbane Lions deep in debt
As bad as Barry Halls really, should get a big suspension, although i doubt he actually meant to connect as well as what he did.
Suspension hangs over Richmond's Vickery after striking Dean Cox
Agreed, Kerr should be up the list, courageous, tough but just knew where his teamates were at all times, peripheal vision was possibly the best out of all 10
The 10 greatest West Coast Eagles
Danile Kerr should be higher up the list and without doubt Peter Matera was the best Eagle of all time, better than Judd.
The 10 greatest West Coast Eagles
Hawthorn have signed at least 2 players from NZ as well as St Kilda.
Collingwood signed a 7 footer from America due solely to their footy department and money they have available.
Seems like sour grapes from the Melbourne clubs towards the Swans to me.
Another week, another swipe at the Swans
What do we have here, the dymanic duo, not the sharpest tools in the shed, both with obvious cultural cringes and chips on their shoulders.
Speculation Karmichael Hunt signs with the Reds - 'Options remain open': Manager
What about the vast majority of people who play responsibly and end up paying for a few beers and a meal with a lucky win, should they give their money back ?.
Drum: McGuire wrong on AFL funding
Australian football has a interest in countries that play cricket because although you can play AF on a rectangular ground, traditionally it is played on ovals and initially they were cricket ovals.
