Spot on Christian, agree 100%.

Booing because a player is indigenous or on racial bias is obviously not on, but booing anybody else for whatever reason other than race/colour/religion, is and always has been part of the game, including other sports like soccer, where it can be a lot worse.

Otherwise it’ll end up like tennis where we’ll hear ‘quite please’ over the speakers….

Is it possible to find a right or wrong answer in the Buddy booing debate?

Balta missed most of last season and Grimes the back end, so will be a huge bonus this year if they can stay fit. Vlastuin also missed a number of games, and is our best rebound defender. Gibcus is still 19 and developing, will be a great player in the future. The back 6, if they can stay fit/healthy, will be as good as it was in 2017-2020.
Last year we lost at least 6 games by less than a goal. We had NO luck at all and would definitely have made top 4 despite all the injuries (didn’t include Martin in that!). Season is looking good, without jinxing us we should finish top 4. Only teams we’d be worried about are Geelong obviously and Melbourne. None of the others. Go Tiges!

The dynasty is far from over: count Richmond out at your peril

While 2022 wasn’t a successful year for the Tigers, they lost at least half a dozen games by less than a goal, and that includes losses to N Melb and Gold Coast after the siren. Also should’ve beaten Geelong at the G late in the season. With a bit more luck they could’ve finished top 4, easily.
The inclusion of the 2 GWS players, together with the growing number of promising youngsters (Sonsie, Cumberland, Ralphsmith, Maurice, Gibcus, etc) puts us in good stead for 2023….and beyond. Many of the old legion who won us the 3 flags have retired, and Cotchin and Jack will soon follow, but the rest of the team is still developing. It’s difficult to even pick our best 22, such is the depth we now have. Tiger fans are definitely looking forward to 2023, with some better luck and fewer injuries, there aren’t many clubs we can’t beat.

Good article Christian. The fact that the top league in this country has no promotion/relegation puts it at odds with the rest of the football world, in my opinion it cannot be taken seriously. Let’s face it the A League is heading downwards, apart from one or two clubs the crowds are poor and there is little interest other than from the diehards, and many of those are even jumping ship.

Those who criticise “ethnic” clubs for violence, ethnic tensions, etc, need only look at the recent Victory vs City match. I’ve been watching football in this country for 50 years and I’ve never seen players physically attacked by fans, ever. So that argument is not valid and has been put to bed. And remember, the “old NSL” died more than 20 years ago, it’s a different world we live in today. The clubs given entry to the NSD obviously need to be scrutinised before being admitted, and any recent history of bad fan behaviour should automatically exclude them. I believe the NSD can only benefit the sport in this country.
