FIFA wowed by US TV figures for World Cup

Dear US Soccer chaps, with regard to even talk of a bid submission, be a good chum and perhaps take the red pill.

Haha, yes…

Maybe it’s less about the external pressure and more about how you deal with it – aren’t Brazilians famous for their relaxed way of life? Perhaps that attitude will see them through…as it has the Aussies on the world stage

Can Brazil replicate Les Bleus' home success without a world class striker?

nice analysis Tony – i think the strength of the supporting wing play may be enough to overcome any central striker deficiencies

Can Brazil replicate Les Bleus' home success without a world class striker?

haha, I think a true hipster would frown on the act of tipping itself!

Nice work Joe.

Thanks to this article, even those of us who missed out on traveling to the Cup can feel validated about any alleged Tinder usage.

Gotta love social proof.

Six reasons for a traveller to love a World Cup in Brazil

Hi Fuss, you ask the question earlier, ‘a-league compared to what’ and my answer would be, compared to itself. You may be watching the premier competition but there is tremendous variability within the league. Some matches are indeed hard to watch and I love the league. Of course, you can’t have the sweet without the sour and there are bad games everywhere.

I enjoy the league much more these days compared to the early seasons and one of the main reasons is the better quality of the football.

From suburban parks to stadiums: Football’s star in Australia has never burnt brighter

Thanks for the article Karl, indeed he did

Di Maria sends Argentina through

Very true – but there is a history of things happening for the first time too Glenn!

The World Cup anyone can win

Fuss my good chap, I agree with you on many things.

But, isn’t the reaction of non-football folk a normal one, that will ultimately subside as their exposure to the sport increases over time.

Rather than dismiss this reaction to the unfamiliar, perhaps we should see it for what it is and help the transition?

Acting and diving not winning 'footy' fans over anytime soon

Nick, you sound like a good egg.

But, if aspects of the sport were so repulsive, why has the game been so successful across so many different types of cultures? (including masculine cultures)

Acting and diving not winning 'footy' fans over anytime soon

Fair point Fuss, but what about compared to itself?

From suburban parks to stadiums: Football’s star in Australia has never burnt brighter

Interesting question chaps…

Wasn’t community engagement a relatively more important reason for the WSW’s success, beyond simply establishing a club in an area with football roots? If so, couldn’t we replicate WSW’s success anywhere where there is a critical mass of supporters.

Sadly, the disappointing performance of Asia at the Cup may have dampened the enthusiasm for Asian marquee players a tad.

I would certainly welcome a big boost in Asian players in Oz.

Let’s hope the Asian Cup next year provides a bit of impetus.

Lampard bound for Melbourne City: report

3 reasons why the solution proposed in the article, although thoughtful, might not work:

1. As previously implied earlier, it’s very difficult to judge intent. Take handball.
2. Would we be punishing the majority of well intentioned players who are attacking in the box for a small minority of divers. I am not convinced the problem is as big as many people claim
3. Encouraging penalties is good entertainment and a good leveler. Football is life and it’s not perfect.

Also, is Robben a chum or a chump for being honest?

The World Cup has a diving problem

Enjoyed your article and enjoying a nice tipple.

Yes, it has truly been the Americas’ Cup, but is there a compelling reason why, beyond geography, which didn’t seem to aid the African teams in 2010?

All hail the Americas in sensational World Cup
