Been waiting for a performance like this for a long time – It certainly felt like a bit of a statement win. Still, much of this good work comes undone if they turn up to the G and get humbled by the Demons in a fortnight.

This certainly feels like their best chance yet to salute. There’s no Melbourne ’21 or Geelong ’22 type team. The Pies and Port are great, both they’re certainly not unbeatable.

Footy Fix: Brisbane's midfield is even better than you thought - and it's not just Neale who tore the Tigers a new one

It astounds me sometimes the lack of analysis given to certain scenarios. I have seen so much talk about how the last time both year’s grand finalists missed finals was 1963. How this was clearly going to be the case again. All of this with Geelong a game outside of the 8, and with as you say the majority of their remaining games at home. It’s all just wishful thinking. They have one good win against the Demons, and if the Pies best the Crows at the G on Sunday they’re back in with 9 games remaining. It’s not that hard to look at a future fixture is it!?

Footy Fix: Anyone who seriously thought the Cats were missing finals... here's your reality check

You’ve won 6 of your last 13, or 0 of your last 2. Statistics are fun like that.

Six Points: Getting back on the Blue bandwagon, fixing the MRO's biggest flaw, and the new dangerous tackle reality

Anyone can make predictions, it shows true character to own it when you are wrong, and put your hand up. That I’ve never seen Don do. Hence the ‘pile on’ that you speak of.

Six Points: Getting back on the Blue bandwagon, fixing the MRO's biggest flaw, and the new dangerous tackle reality

100% mate ???? I don’t know whether it was allowing GWS to score 4 goals each quarter, or only managing to score 5 yourself. Or perhaps the loss at home to Richmond last week despite an 18-7 free kick count. But something just screams premiership about this mob!

Six Points: Getting back on the Blue bandwagon, fixing the MRO's biggest flaw, and the new dangerous tackle reality

It’s going to take some pretty impressive mental gymnastics for a particular poster to somehow justify Freo scoring 5 goals and losing by 70 points against the Giants as a sign they are top 2 and GF bound. I personally can’t wait for the performance.

Six Points: Getting back on the Blue bandwagon, fixing the MRO's biggest flaw, and the new dangerous tackle reality

While I don’t necessarily disagree re the coaching group, I feel that the whole “they approached us” line is a softener for the ego. Writing was on the wall for all to see.

AFL News: Lions veterans' brutal self-sacrifice, Sicily to appeal ban, great calls for Gill to go now

But that’s just my point – “when players start coming back”… They can’t get players on the park. They haven’t been able to for 2 seasons. Surely people inside the club need to answer to the fact that they have mismanaged players and have gotten their team composition horribly wrong. They are cooked on every level and it is not purely down to “bad luck”.

Footy Fix: Historically bad Eagles are even more pathetic than you think... and it's more than just injuries causing it

Surely questions need to be asked of the list management and health and fitness teams – for 2 years running they have been absolutely gutted. Everyone cops their fair share over a long enough period, but at this point I think West Coast needs to own their predicament more than just pointing at “bad luck”.

PS are you please able to let me know which of their remaining games they’ll “win half of”? Would love to get on some juicy odds.

Footy Fix: Historically bad Eagles are even more pathetic than you think... and it's more than just injuries causing it

The “only 1 of their losses has been by more than 11 points” line is a bit disingenuous. They were saved by the blackout at the Gabba – the Lions were in cruise control in that much and the margin would have been 5 goals+.

At the end of the day they still have all the pieces, and if they finish top 4 will be in with a chance. But right now, they are a long way from what they were in 2021.

The Demons are on track for premiership glory - they just need everything to click

It surprises me that Liam is the only one who seems to have touched on the ridiculousness of 2 teams having a bye this weekend. It goes 4 teams, 2, 6 & 6. The mind boggles.

Is anyone able to explain the (lack of) logic to me?

They just don’t get it. You can see it in the jersey, you can see it in the logo. N$W just don’t get Origin.

Battered Maroons pull off stunning comeback on 'really poor' Blues to put Fittler's future in jeopardy

Epic game and fantastic summary Tim! I knew that this match would tell me a lot about both teams and I simply must take my hat off to Port. That young midfield is superb. Considering the conditions, the quality of that game really was top shelf. Shout out too to Port’s guernsey – what a clever way to incorporate the Magpies!

Footy Fix: Rapid, ruthless and relentless - the match-winning nine seconds that summed up a famous Power win

Look there’s definitely a bit of tongue in cheek about the statement, I’ll admit. But dead set, in that first quarter alone the amount of times the Suns didn’t get a call for a holding the ball (as an example), only for the Eagles to get a whistle for the exact same thing the very next play was laughable. It honestly came across as one set of rules for the home team, and another for the away. The worst part was the crowd was smaller than usual and there was no real weight of expectation from them either. It wasn’t as if the umpires were being swayed by a parochial mob, they were just plain rubbish.

Six Points: The move to save the Swans' season, the worst thing a fan can do, and why the Blues are closer than you think

Not the most memorable round of all time by any means, but still plenty to take out of it.

The curse on teams the season after they get pantsed in the grand final is very real.
The bias towards the Eagles from the umpires in Perth is also very real.
Richmond winding back the clock and having Cotchin, Martin and co star to beat the Cats was a nice touch of nostalgia.

I’m very much looking forward to Friday night – will be a great test to see where Port is really at. The best part is one of them has to lose.

Six Points: The move to save the Swans' season, the worst thing a fan can do, and why the Blues are closer than you think

As much as I love the bloke, I can’t help shake the feeling that Voss just isn’t much chop as a coach. In an alternate world with Ross Lyon at the helm, the Blues are currently in the top 4 and being spoken about as flag contenders.

Michael Voss has Carlton shaping as a bottom six candidate

I hope you’re right mate, honestly I do.

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

So it is purely coincidental that the first time in a decade the Swans play the Pies at the G following the infamous Goodes incident, a current Indigenous champion from the same team gets booed when no else does for seemingly no reason?

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

I generally have no issue with booing, provided it has some context. JHF will be booed mercilessly this weekend, and that should surprise no one. The Franklin booing however was different – he hasn’t wronged Collingwood, nor was he having an amazing game. In fact the only thing I can make a link to is the fact that it was the first time since the Goodes incident that the Swans had played the Pies at the G. So it is very hard for me to not find a (at the very least casual) racial element to it. Collingwood fans lowered their colours massively IMO and once again put racist question marks over the AFL. For that they should feel ashamed.

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

Can’t disagree with any of that really, thanks for another end of round write up. I think after 8 rounds there is a clear top 4 currently, but that’s not to say there can’t be plenty of movement still as the season pans out.

Geelong, Collingwood, Melbourne & Brisbane the best going around right now. Port, St Kilda, Bulldogs & Carlton on the rung below, with the Crows, Bombers and Swans right behind them.

Six Points: Don't write off Carlton just yet, 2023's dumbest act, and why Dee's ban is an utter disgrace

One of these years we will paint the town purple Donny! Outside of the Lions I would love to see a Freo flag more than any other team. This would be followed closely by the Saints. I’m a sucker for a drought breaker.

'Who are they going to be?' Time for Freo to figure out what they stand for

I just have to continually pinch myself – I was repeatedly told all off-season that Freo were the clear best team in the comp and would win the flag, and West Coast would return to finals… I guess mum was right; you can’t trust everyone on the internet.

'Who are they going to be?' Time for Freo to figure out what they stand for

Send GWS to Canberra. Scrap the Suns. Give Tassie it’s own team and not some cast away Vic club. 18 teams – Simple.

Welcome Tasmania, but the AFL should be a 16-team competition so three clubs must go

Can’t believe this far into the season Cats are still being downplayed. Three losses on the trot woke them out of their slumber, now they’re building nicely. Easily a top 4 team in the comp.

AFL Power Rankings Round Seven: Coleman for Curnow, Hell to pay for in the North, debacle in the West

Bit rough on the Lions there I would have thought…

Six Points: Pies' crazy bravery trumps critically cautious Crows, and Simpson's pathetic Eagles can't go on like this
