I feel for Brebner..I don’t think he’s signing are all that bad, they’ve obviously showed glimpses. He’s been smashed with injuries..(but other teams do aswell) but it as though the signings haven’t fully committed to Australian football yet? (Homesickness, lifestyle change, league, grounds etc) I‘m more annoyed with Broxam, he just doesn’t know how to be a leader when things are down on the park..not aggressive enough. If Brebner could get another really experience defender central defender..and the midfield (kruse, Brimmer, Butterfield) lift their game results could change.

Grant Brebner faces uncertain future

I get your point but I do believe the kids are alright..imo, teams today are just obsessed with buying, buying, having Massive playing squads, with many more players sitting on the outer picking up huge wages. Money and greed has taken over the game today..I really believe kids just don’t get the same look in as they once did..I’d go as far to say I would wonder how Kewell, Viduka and all the other successful aussies would go in today’s football? It’s whole different football era. Also I believe coaches/managers are put under a lot more pressure for results and performance and don’t have the same patience to nurture kids..they either fit in now or play someone else..like I said that’s just the way I see it. It’s a full on Money driven game (unfortunately)..

Ten reasons to be optimistic about the A-League’s future

IMO, with this covid, it’s no point even discussing crowd figures and how many people should be at games. Right now we should be happy whatever number attends..if people choose not to put themselves amongst crowds with chance of risk whatever the event maybe, that’s fair enough too..

Ten reasons to be optimistic about the A-League’s future

With respect, Who do you support in world football Nick21? (If you have a team that is?)

Ten reasons to be optimistic about the A-League’s future

Finishing first should be awarded with a trophy and presentation regardless of a final series, its the only right thing to do (whether people choose to remember that’s up to them) I can’t understand why other codes don’t do it but I’m glad the
A League does. Maybe if/when the 2nd Div. comes they’ll do away with the final series! Perth Glory were great last year but didn’t get the GF win but so what! at least they recognised and awarded for their home/away season!

Would the A-League be better off if Sydney FC weren't crowned champions?

AR what are you talking about…Football (Soccer in your terms) can be played in what ever season it wants to be played in..but yes it is known as a winter sport and always has been here.
Although years ago NSL played in Summer for reasons stated in the article, then A League just continued on. There’s so many advantages now to move to the A League to winter..There’s so much more to think about with making our A league clubs successful etc Asia, NPL and grassroots.
It’s well past the old days of NSL competing against Aussie codes, Like I’ve said on past forums..It’s competing and being successful in Asia now, which hopefully thats success snowballs and bring out the potential in all football matters here.

Is a switch to winter the key to unlocking the A-League's potential?

Btw No Mates .. if parents had a problem with kids and winter , football wouldn’t be the most participated sport. The kids are out there training in the wet and cold and they love it! (May take them 5 or so minutes to get started) . kids are the tough ones. My 8 yo boy loves the A league and weathers’ not stopping me from taking away his enjoyment..we’ll be in the stand cheering on!

Winter A-League survey: The results are in and not what you may have expected

If you can’t put on a good warm jacket and a beanie for a couple of hours..gees, outdoor entertainment isn’t for you! C’mon some of the weather talk in here is really making us Aussies sound soft as butter! what would the crowds be like if they moved AFL to the summer? Down I’m guessing , cos people would probably still be out at beer gardens, bbq’s etc. Summer or winter , if people want to get there they will. Anyway it’s irrelevant..JJ had done it for more reasons than just attendances .so why are these conversations keep being brought up. That’s what’s killing our game, the constant negativity in every possible positive..

Winter A-League survey: The results are in and not what you may have expected

It’s a little disappointing especially when the season is so close to finishing..This is just my opinion..because we are a world game , with obviously foreign coaches and players this is an example of where
A League fans go through so much more emotional roller coasters than fans of AFL and other codes here in Australia will experience in the same way..like I said, just my opinion..this COVID19 has made a real mess of things so it’s understandable Some foreign coaches and players may feel the way they do especially when we are so far away from the rest of the world..

Brisbane Roar and Robbie Fowler part ways

Yep , I agree give Matt Acton a go.
Mahler..it’s no harm in changing a few things up for the last few games ..We already known Lawrence is always first choice but Matt Acton bides his time week in week out and when we can’t make finals then why not give him a go..also stick Kenny up front by himself for the remaining games. Some of the players just waste away in this league unfortunately. Now, just play the last few games with PRIDE!

Each club's state of affairs before the A-League restart: Melbourne Victory

If I’ve understood correctly your suggesting parents of kids playing weekend morning/late morning football would hardly ever be bothered to then go and watch their professional A League team that same afternoon/night? There’d would thousand and thousands that play Aussie Rules /VFL or basketball then go to the stadium and watch their Professional team later that day/night , so why should it be any different for the A League? But I think the biggest battle we have is converting MORE hardcore supporters of teams from their home origin (Europe. etc) and other participants that have their beloved team from back home as well to really invest in the A League. They might enjoy the odd A league game but Don’t invest their time in it. Also whether saturated world football of all hours of the morning on TV plays a part from people getting out to the Stadium ?? Hopefully James Johnson can find strategies to turn that around..like he said we have more participants than any other code so he’s acknowledged that their our there..just need to get them to come.

A-League’s winter move fraught with danger

Good on James Johnson..he looks and sounds as though he will make some gutsy decisions for the Australian Football as a whole (Amateur, Semi Professional, Professional) on not just purely based on the A League competition…I think Summer has done it’s time before we joined the Asian Confederation …we need to think like the rest of the football world, grassroots and Academies setups, in term of the A League ,A Winter move will help our team be more consistent in Asia ..we need our clubs to start being more bigger, better and dominate in Asia..then hopefully with that success Stems down and helps our grassroots football. I agree totally with James Johnson , we need to stop worrying about other codes and concentrate on what make ‘OUR’ code great! Don’t make scared decisions based off the success of other codes. At one stage people in the FFA wanted to follow ideas of the BBL, music during games, characters and other gimmicky things , That’s not Football…, their decision of being ’scared’ and forgetting about the great things of our game and working on them I stead. I believe James Johnson being a football brain, will not go off track like that. He understand Football and football fans.

A-League’s winter move fraught with danger

I’d happily pay $15pm for an FFA app. If it supports Australian football of all levels I’m all for it..From my understanding the app is to unite football at all levels and bring us Austalian football history, so it’s not intended to be just based A League. It will provide everything Australian Football from News. , Old Classic NSL games, International games and highlights, behind the scenes, snippets, footage , NPL, WNPL, stories and interviews of coaches , players and past coaches and players. Stories on suburban grounds, All Australian Football present and history in one App etc. at anytime you want to watch it.

How much would you pay to watch the A-League on an app?

The A League articles on here are the same recycled articles we’ve read all before. And another one this week on A League ‘attendance’..I’ve seen that one a million times. The same way you write about A league lacking excitement , managed poorly and doing nothing different year on year, I can only say it feels as though the roar is no different. Who ever manages the A league Column needs to look into that…

Goodbye A-League. It was fun while it lasted

Yeah Bill I take your point but Until there’s another division, I think the final series is here to stay..Atleast we still award them a premiership plate and premier winners celebration for finishing 1st not like other codes here.,.in The English championship and league 1 they have playoff for promotion. Why ? why not just promote the team that finished 4th in league 1 rather give 7th spot the opportunity to win promotion? my point is theres playoffs everywhere, Tottenham were nearly champions of Europe from finishing 4th in domestic. Silver plate/ trophy…does it matter? It’s all silverware. Qualifying spots to have the opportunity to be champions is almost everywhere now and that’s what the A league is and all teams know that how it is. Although Maybe they could cut it back to top four and two legs or something?

How much trouble is the A-League seriously in?

It’s natural for crowds (especially in Australia) to slowly drop if your teams is going through a slump and not playing attractive football or worse not even trying at times (etc MV, Newcastle, WSW. It’s up to the club to pull themselves out of it and make the fans want to show up. It seems to be our mentality here. We won’t waste our time if it’s not appealing.. (to many other things or sports going on to chose from).

The Wanderers need a reset - and so does the rest of the A-League

I agree with Fadida 100%. He’s spot on. With all respect Mike, you and alot of other Media writers
dissect absolutely everything and write about it . (this is not a personal dig at AFL..but the media go on and on about the smallest issues, it’s laugh worthy. I enjoy the ‘Roar’ but I think you are the most negative writer of everyone. It feels as though your always having a bad day. Cheer up.

It's a myth that the A-League needs positive headlines to thrive
