Edwards is really interesting to watch. He is a bit like rugby legend Stephen Larkam. He doesn’t seem to moving quickly but suddenly he is through the line.

Nathan's kicks the difference in Panthers rearguard action as Ivan reveals reason for Turuva absence

Absolutely. He could be To’o Mark 11. Bigger, faster and younger.

You may well be right, but there also a chance they are building momentum. Their young players look so good – Tago, Kenny, May, Alamoti, Geyer – and they are just going to get better and better I think.

We shall see. The fulcrum to your spectrum constantly shifts as understanding and social awareness changes.
I doubt Lam was the first man of colour to be called a monkey. But he took a stand, he said no more, and behaviour will change as a result. We have a young man who died recently probably because he was afraid of looking soft amongst his peers. He worked himself to death. The group is a powerful force.
My feeling is that this was ill conceived bullying behaviour and has clearly affected a young man who hasn’t played since. Who knows what circumstances he comes from, and how that kind of group pressure impacts.
Anyway, I’ve got to pack and board a plane to go live with Rajasthani gypsies and then Tibetan refugees. The only Panthers fan amongst 1.6 billion Indians!

NRL News: 'Happens every day' - Anasta defends Dogs as $4M lawsuit looms over former player's training punishment

I dont care what you call me – as my old grandad apparently used to say – ‘call me anything you like – but don’t call me late for dinner.’
Anyway, I’m off to India tomorrow and in the scheme of things this is seriously small. But I think its bullying behaviour. The young man was clearly distressed. I was bullied at school because I came from what was then the slums of Surry Hills so am sensitive to group shaming.
Like you aren’t saying I’m under hung like a pigeon, I’m not saying you are a ‘man-boobed yobbo’, but it will definitely trigger the ‘when I played the game’, ‘act like a man’, ‘get over it brigade’ who, in my experience, tend to have their best days well and truly behind them.

Well, its the first time I’ve disagreed with you Barry. For me, this is insane behaviour and can only be condoned by losing the entire perspective of the notion of sport. Talk about childish! Whether the players comforted him or not, since it’s something ‘you heard’, it clearly had a major impact on the young man. I doubt he’d be a ‘snowflake’ give he was a 22 year old NRL footballer, but peer group pressure of this nature can have outcomes no one can predict, and should be avoided. To me, the line was crossed.

Players expect to be told the truth by coaches, expects to be pushed really hard, they don’t expect to wrestle 35 teammates in the context of punishment. It’s a throwback to when Mario Fenech said you didn’t have a drink of water during summer training because it was soft. Well, he’s now got brain damage along with hosts of others with stiff arm tackles and thuggish actions that are now deemed archaic.

‘Yobbos’ might be strong, but as a description for some it won’t be strong enough. Same with ‘man-boobed’ which I actually thought was quite funny, and probably incredibly accurate. If you feel insulted by this, how would you go wrestling 35 teammates after training for being 10 minutes late.

Que the man-boobed yobbo commentators who see this as just normal behaviour. Training hard beyond your limits, being given tough love by coaches, all that is acceptable I would have thought. Having to wrestle an entire team after a training session is way beyond that. It seems designed to humiliate the player into submission – or something.

I have to admit, they seem committed and cohesive. Even young Flanagan looks to have regained some confidence.

Sufferball: How the Dragons are turning pain into pleasure under Shane Flanagan

Penrith looked clunky but have done well without Cleary. It will give Schneider some experience for the Origin period.

Alamoti is another To’o I think, but a bit quicker.

'How does it not get sin-binned?' Benji fumes at ref's soft call as Cleary insists Edwards not hurt

You could probably add Turuva to that list as well.

The Fish that broke the Panthers’ back: Dynasty in danger with JFH the biggest blow in long list of star departures

It’s a blow for Panthers supporters because apart from being a great prop he is clearly a cultural force of great stability.

The only thing I would say is that after losing Lenui and Kikau, the Panthers always look to me like they are playing above their weight. To have a huge prop like the Tigers lad could be a huge asset.

My bad. What did NZ just win?

'It's a big fat no from me': Mal would pick Roos if made to choose as 'red flags' raised on any Souths deal

Didn’t the Kangaroos just lose the World Cup to NZ? Isn’t Mal involved with the Titans? He’s not exactly coming off red hot form.

I have no problem with LM being an advocate for his people. But I think it has taken precedence over playing football at a committed level for the people who pay him and the fans who support him. That is his primary job.

Jack W has been playing well, but the team for whom disaster was predicted, Canberra, look reinvented without him.

Demetriou facing sack after Souths' disastrous start with Bennett, Bellamy, Burgess possible replacement options

Hey Albo. Worked with rock and roll bands all over the world for many years, so I might have heard my prescribed amount of lead breaks.

However I also enjoy solos in football but Penrith keep turning off the opposition’s power or unplugging the amps.

The missing ingredient Roosters need to kick into title contention - and the no-name player Robbo should take a punt on

The Roosters wingers and centres went from threateningly tall to embarrassingly tall. The Panthers worrying short wingers got the ball back quickly and burrowed under or thru tacklers.

Everything looked like a symphony with the Panthers while East looked like a series of lead guitar solos.

As Rex Mossop used to say – he went for a brain scan but it revealed nothing.

You are right. It isn’t just the player, it’s the system into which they are absorbed.

NRL Power Rankings: Round 4 - Tigers in finals mix? Panthers’ challengers falling by the wayside, Roosters lay an egg

I agree entirely. In terms of the imports who have exceeded expectations beyond O’Sullivan, Cogger and now Schneider, you also have Sorenson and Hosking last year. Alamoti could be huge as well for Penrith. I think a lot of talent scouts looking for halves should be a bit embarrassed.
Even Eisenhuff seems to be developing is game in the latter part of his career. He’s been great in the absence of Fisher-Harris.

I have noticed people talk about the fact that Ivan had lost a GF as a player and a coach as though that made him a loser. His three premierships now show those for what they were – incredible achievements that kept him learning and evolving.

Ivan the terribly consistent over-achiever vaults into greatest coaches debate by habitually exceeding expectations

Seems a terrific young kid. It’s good he got the debut out of the way and I look forward to watching hime blossom.

'Do what I say, not what I do!': How Mavrik is looking to build on the Geyer legacy - while avoiding the judiciary

At some stage people have to start talking about Ivan Cleary as a master coach. He continually outhinks Robinson. He brings players along slowly but brilliantly. Young Liam Henry is superb. I watched Lindsay Smith tonight and he is very powerful. Kenny is a whirlwind. Young Schneider was precise and a powerful tackler and has a great kicking game. The older players – Yeo., Edwards. Leota and Martin – just drive the energy. Speaking of older players. Eisenhuff is playing like a top class forward. It seems the drive to perfection at Penrith never ends.

Annesley admits Roosters were robbed as obstruction rules come under blowtorch despite Panthers' statement win

It’s going to be interesting to see how this works against the Panthers on Thursday. It is the shortest wingers versus the tallest. The short ones are able to burrow and are hard to stop on ball return. The taller are faster and leap higher. When Penrith’s defensive blitzkrieg is working you don’t often get to play the way you planned.

EVERYTHING is twice as bad with Ennis. I listen with the sound down or watch Ch 9.

NRL Round 3 Talking Points: Blowouts, bad bunnies, and bunker babies are back

Just as impressive I think is watching players unwanted at other clubs like Sorenson and Hosking, or the halfbacks on standby for Cleary, go to such heights. That’s why I am excited to see Alamoti play. The won’t rush him, will look to improve his defence and then bang – another Liam Henry or Tago or Turuva. Even Eisenhuff at 31 seems to be developing.
