The system being suggested is one in which fans must remain loyal. Oops, turns out Aussie fans aren’t loyal, mostly just support the currently successful teams

Scrap the salary cap, expand and reward success

In your opinion, but to a fan who doesn’t care, it means nothing

The Derby derby: Is Sydney bigger than Melbourne?

So we’re saying here that having a World Cup winner, world class player in the prime of his careers, unlike many other ageing marquees, would not have made a difference in publicity and attendances whether he came or not? Also, whether it’s true or not, the reason stated for his leaving is family reasons, with promotional work to go with it while he’s there. The bottom line he’s New York City’s player, not Melb City’s, so there isn’t a real argument there against his going back. And as a side note, there’s a big possibility he’ll come back in December-January for another 2-3 games, which makes a difference.

After the Villa debacle, it's time to scrap the guest player

Very uneducated and poorly researched article, as if it is looking for reasons to overstate Sydney’s impact. The first outright wrong research being on David Villa, who is leaving after round FOUR, not as stated right now.

Also, who gives a crap which derby is “bigger” and more popular, all that matters is what individual fans feel about it. For me personally, any A-League derby or the El Clasico is nothing compared to going to Lakeside to watch South vs Knights, regardless of the crowd, so who can say any one derby is better than another?

Funny part is the police can’t arrest someone for trespassing on your own private property but they can arrest trespassers on criminal property aye

Pitch invasion probe warranted or a marker of the FFA nanny state?

Pitch invasion probe warranted or a marker of the FFA nanny state?

I’m not a lawyer and don’t know if i’m right or wrong, but since the FFA and SFS are both legal entities, that have their own property, stadium pitch invading shouldn’t be criminal law, it’s just their own regulations that they set in place.

It’s like a school having uniform rules; it’s not the law, but it’s their rules and they can suspend you if you don’t comply, regardless what you do. Just like how certain fans who may or may not be guilty of pitch invading and/or pyro, who have beaten the FFA in federal court, STILL get banned because, and i quote the FFA “we do not have to comply with the rules of fairness”

Nanny state, or totalitarian dictatorship?

Pitch invasion probe warranted or a marker of the FFA nanny state?

You sir are uneducated and ignorant.

Opinions are warranted if they have any sort of support. Say it shouldn’t be like the NSL days? How often do you recall there were pitch invasions in the NSL? What about when was the last time there was a major incident regarding a pitch invasion?

If you’re going to be one of the plastic supporters who supports everyone sitting down, drinking tea and talking about the weather while watching sport, at least do it at an AFL ground where you belong.

Pitch invasion probe warranted or a marker of the FFA nanny state?

It seems that all people care about these days is growth and getting better and not watching if its not getting better. Why can’t fans support their club, no matter what, and be a real supporter, not plastic, fake fans like most casual supporters, love your team no matter what, not when convenient.

Forget code wars - Growth is the key for football

As opposed to not giving a stuff and loving your team no matter what, whatever league, whatever position. You know, like real fans should

A-League attendance records will continue to tumble

Spending more time mulling over pointless statistics and arguing over growth in a year than actually watching the sport.. only in Australia!

A-League attendance records will continue to tumble

Good question, i reckon depends on the general loyalty of fans, which unfortunately i think is pretty lousy in this country compared to others. For example in Europe having many people passionately supporting their local team regardless of division, and here many of the casual (not all, emphasize casual) supporters follow the team/code that tends to do better. Not saying there’s no passionate loyal supporters, there’s a lot, but not in comparison.

As a wild guess i would throw at no more than a quarter to a third, i guess? Really depends on the individuals.

Football provides grand-final drama every week

I’d rather Oz just create the next generation of Hazard’s and Rodriguez’ for ourselves wouldn’t that be great

Villa's in town, but where have all the marquees gone?

For most the AFL/NRL/start of EPL or whatever is to pass time in the A-League off-season. For me, the A-League passes time in the NPL off-season, South Melbourne to the end !!!

Football provides grand-final drama every week

Agreed, although the crowds weren’t good it was only because Clive Palmer is a muppet.

The right way to expand the A-League

Support for some of these clubs is decent and can definitely compete on a national level, the problem though with a nation-wide conference, and this is the reason i despise the FFA, is that while the A-League is being breastfed, the last 10 years has seen the former powerhouse clubs receive next to nothing. NPL clubs have almost no advertising and marketing, supporters being drawn to the A-League and so they have no money. Many NPL clubs only survive off of the volunteer work and donations by the members who love the club.

So i would like to know in a potential A2 division, where the funding paying for transport/accommodation and raising the standard of play will come from.

The right way to expand the A-League

Interesting idea but would never please the FFA. Just imagine for a second the colourful fireworks that would occur at headquarters if an ethnic club i.e South Melbourne wins the right to the A-League, yeah i giggled too.

I’m all for promotion and relegation but it can’t be adopted because it’s not much of a league, it’s a business.

The right way to expand the A-League

Definitely could be troublesome, looking like how the NRL/AFL is NSW/Vic based respectively, but since the FFA wants to see growth, this could be a potential direction, and then slowly introducing different regions, logically Vic next, with a 3rd Melb and Geelong team bringing 4 teams to the state.

Not necessarily the best direction, but interesting concepts

The right way to expand the A-League

Yeah i didn’t really make that clear, i was leaning towards the thinking of not necessarily needing to put resources in the big cities when theres potential regional areas (wollongong, canberra) that give access to much more competitive football in the way of regional rivalries.

That’s more the gyst of what i was trying to highlight

The right way to expand the A-League
