Superb analysis NB. Steve Borthwick deserves a lot of credit as there was some really creative stuff. Players also need to execute it of course which was done to perfection like the vast majority of the English game.

They may have shown their hand a bit in the lineout unless they have more creativity in store for Saturday.

Hansen and co got selections and tactics wrong for this match. One could surmise that Eddie had been spying on Hansens playbook ????

Whiteout! How selection confidence helped England beat the All Blacks

Good first article Steven. I thought you opened yourself up a bit with the first sentence, you maybe could have framed it as a way for World rugby to encourage the game to follow the attacking path Nz and Japan are taking as opposed to a swipe at England

It's time for a rule change

A number of situations I thought were offside in real time weren’t when reviewed back, including the Tuilagi intercept.

One of the quirks of the offside law is the player in front of the ball being allowed to play it when a kick catch is spilled, or a kick off tapped back. Seems to belie the logic of offside (Ie: being on the wrong side) to me

It's time for a rule change

Can’t the touchies police it? At least along the defensive line (maybe not rucks and mauls so much)

Good article first up ‘soup’. England looked formidable on Saturday but like many I expect the final to be cagey and tight. It may come down to who has the more accurate boot

The cream rises to the top at the RWC

The old ‘they’ve sucked the life out of the Pacific Islands’ chestnut again.

How exactly?

Where is rugby heading in Australia and NZ?

Farrell 100% off the tee v Aus, Moanga missed 3? V Ireland. If it’s tight that might be the difference

Five reasons why Hansen’s Scott Barrett surprise could be a master stroke

You say that but NZ have 3 recognised goal kickers on the pitch in B Barrett, J Barrett, R Moanga. There’s also a third Barrett who says he will step up and who wouldn’t back him given the pedigree.

England have Ford and Farrell but anyone else as a recognised goal kicker? Daly?

No Jonah-led demolition but All Blacks have too much class for England

The misinterpreted lap of honour was at Old Trafford and was actually an acknowledgement to the northern English crowd who had turned out to support given the vast majority of English home matches are played at Twickenham

No Jonah-led demolition but All Blacks have too much class for England

Selectively worded there Fionn! 😁

All Blacks spring make surprising line-up change for semi-final against England

I expect Tuilagi to start so Anton and Jack will need to take care of him first up

All Blacks spring make surprising line-up change for semi-final against England

Arguably RT England have a stronger front row (6) and starting midfield ( if Eddie goes Farrell Tuilagi). Nz edge second row for me, have a more experienced back row and critically game breakers at 10 and 15. NZ slight favourites on this basis but this England team should not (and will not) be underestimated

All Blacks spring make surprising line-up change for semi-final against England

Smart move. If Jones sticks with his usual back row England only have two recognised lineout jumpers. NZ will have 5 if you include Savea.
A strong bench with the likes of SBW and Cane to make an impact in the final 30. ABs fighting fire with fire early on then planning on speeding the game up later

SBW has a role to play. Smash holes in a tired defence and offload to the speedsters to finish it off

The Rugby World Cup has turned into a joke

How much of the ball handling issues could be put down to the humid conditions?

The Wrap: Why the All Blacks are ahead of the game in Japan

Great wrap thanks Geoff. Thought that the two Russians you mentioned were the standout performers in the first match. The 7 was a real menace at the breakdown and kept going the full 80.

Thought the All Blacks did well to put the Boks away after weathering the first quarter storm (where NZ looked decidedly shaky) but also didn’t show much of their hand. English media really talking NZ up after that performance but I still expect Ireland and England to provide stern challenges

The Wrap: Why the All Blacks are ahead of the game in Japan

Agreed Highlander. Plenty of great open side play, perhaps accentuated by the number of teams going with the dual 7s back row make up?

They also flogged them in training so they were playing when fatigued. Good practice in making good decisions when knackered
