There’s only one person stirring things up here and that is you so I guess you are of the same ilk. I love my team but when they don the jersey of another state for SOO, I have the same disdain for them as if they were the arch enemy at another club. Similarly with Cam Smith, he is no different, on the field he is the enemy and I don’t have to like him. He is however, a phenomenal player and I respect that. Off the field, most sporting leaders like this give so much to their fans and the community which should rightfully be applauded, even if it is expected of them. Two truly great sporting heroes of our time – like it or not.

Cameron Smith and LeBron James: Good people first, GOATs second

Backing the Panthers in 2021, roster aside, would take a very brave man.

Ivan Cleary.
342 games. 14 Seasons. 6 finals series. 2 grand finals – both lost.

Records are meant to be broken but there are also plenty of talented guys out there that just couldn’t get the job done. He broke his season win record of 62% by achieving a whopping 89% this year, finals included. I don’t support the Panthers but do feel for the guy and wouldn’t mind if he could buck the trend, even without my cash on board…

The Storm's NRL stranglehold grows stronger, but Panthers are 2021 favourites

I’m not 77 by the quality of the game almost put me to sleep as well and I watched about 150 games this season.

"I'm always honest", says Phil Gould who reckons his NRL grand final call wasn't biased

Sorry, but his age should have nothing to do with it. Feel sorry for 90 year old Buffett.

"I'm always honest", says Phil Gould who reckons his NRL grand final call wasn't biased

Maybe you need to see how many of Armstrong’s competitors were doing exactly what he was doing before saying he wouldn’t have won those titles!!

You don't have to like him, but you do have to admit Cameron Smith is rugby league's greatest ever

5 players from the spine and 5 players from elsewhere on the paddock did the voting. Seems fair to me.

Why the Dally M Award is flawed

You are right, but I think we need discard the word spine as Cam Smith winning it a couple of times from memory was still due in part to his defence, but yes, the numbers clearly indicate the the halves and backline get a massive advantage. I don’t know where to go here because I feel we all wear the same rose coloured glasses as no one has put forward any defensive beasts as options for the top spot recently as alternative and viable winners. I thought Papalii was great this year but whenever his name is thrown around, it is merely as a comparison to others in the same role at a different joint, not in the same breath as the backs (talking 1-7 here).

Why the Dally M Award is flawed

I’ll take that bet. I can’t believe that in just watching a single game, everyone judge would have a completely different viewpoint. Some may vary slightly, but I feel consensus would largely exist. I personally think the system is fine and Wighton was amongst a handful of players that had exceptional years, any of which could have deservedly won the award.

The RLPA award is also not without its flaws as it doesn’t have to included all games in the season with voting opened 2 weeks before the final round, allows players who haven’t set foot on the field all season to have an equal vote with those who have played regularly against their peers and has a diabolical tiebreaker rule when it should just be 2 people finish equal on votes they share the award. Having said that, we will once again end of with a great player winning which is what it is about.

Why the Dally M Award is flawed

The Dally M is not voted by Journalists. The Dally M is voted by ex players. The RLPA is voted by current players who can vote once and only for an opposition player.

Some ex players are Journalists, but still ex players.

Why the Dally M Award is flawed

You may want to change the order of Roosters and Eels on the table. That aside, Panthers play Roosters and the loser of the game would presumably play the Raiders (just a hunch haha). Not certain, but I can see one of those two TOP 4 teams a good chance of going out in straight sets.

Strength of schedule shows final NRL placings are not what they seem

Could have used a question mark but you are a tough task master. You also chose two words ‘Yeah possibly’ from the entire response which implies the headline won’t be fake. Time will tell. To me it is merely a prediction based on Cleary’s response.

You could also have written, ‘Asked whether he would sit more players against Canterbury next week, Cleary said:’ ‘So Yeah’

Cleary to rest more Panthers against Dogs

Careless – ‘Not paying or showing close attention especially for the purpose of avoiding trouble.’

The decision was correct IMO. Techniques need to change for the purpose of avoiding trouble, in this instance, contacting a persons head, which as we are learning day by day, has not only potentially immediate but long term ramifications. Sin bins for this type of tackle achieve something special – it sends a message. If we need a few more sin bins then so be it. These tackles are not commonplace, but they are dangerous, accidental or not. Sending a message now means they don’t become commonplace. Ignoring them effectively condones them.

These guys are paid big money, they get hurt, they wake up sore, they miss games. They are not paid near enough for the prospect of brain damage.

PS: I love big hits. Papalii on McInnes is a winner.

Be careful what you wish for when it comes to high contact

Slowing down the ruck to set your defensive line inside the 20m is frustrating to watch. If we wish to try and eliminate this and at the same time avoid slowing down the game via a penalty, I would suggest a simple change.

Any 6 again restart coming off your line and within the 20 results in a 20m Tap restart and a 7 tackle set. The keeps the game flowing, removes incentive for the defensive team to slow the ruck and reset and provides an advantage to the attacking team against whom the intentional infringement occurred.

How I'd improve the six-again rule

Nice article and I am a big fan of Kurt. I do worry however that his game can be a bit one dimensional at times and that towards the pointy of the end of the season teams may be able to nullify him and those stats from the 1st 10 rounds may seem like a distant memory. I hope this is proven unfounded and like we saw with Ponga last week, a change in tact to avert the opponents recent repression of him.

The Knights have finally found the final piece of their puzzle

The article is an opinion, which in itself is a level of bias. The headline lured me in, piqued my interest. What I read was dribble, not backed by any facts, not even unsubstantiated examples save for an occasional quote. Moreso, if you want to be a journalist shouldn’t you be prepared to defend your stance in the comments section? Good journalists will at least stick up for their stance, right or wrong and whether you agree or disagree. SBW is a sideline act to an already intriguing NRL competition and the quality of this article only cements that further.

Sonny Bill Williams to the Roosters is just another marketing stunt by the NRL

Title favourites beat the hapless warriors and JWH can’t even exercise some humility. Setting a poor example and he deserves a ribbing for it.

JWH slammed for post-match Hetherington handshake snub after fierce duel

I sorry, but even if Hunt was on $1.2m a season which I don’t believe he is, at best he is getting ‘paid’, 80% of that as a salary this year due to RLPA agreement changes. That puts him under $1m and possibly as low as 800k if the original figure was 1m per season. I wish I could freely mix past data with a current circumstance and make it fly…

Ben Hunt is now the highest paid starting nine in NRL history
