True, football is the world game. But as we head towards “big” Australia there will be a lot more jockeying for position between the codes. The AFL is way ahead at the moment and by using the NFL as an example, being an isolated sport in that country only, doesn’t seem to hurt. Sooner NRL expands the better, and that’s from an Adelaidian.

It's the fact that football is a global game that drives its critics crazy

I’m from Adelaide, follow Manly (don’t hate me) from a few years ago living in Sydney. Will be great to see SOO here. Lots of fans here, as I’m not sure if you are aware that most of Adelaide’s history is made from immigrants from England’s north. My family is one of them and were really p11ssed off when the Rams were scuppered by unfortunate timing and circumstance.

The NRL is delusional seeking expansion through Origin

If NRL fans supported their game week in and week out at the grounds this would not need to happen and the game would grow organically. The way it is now, it has to be forced if it is to survive.

True, not a failure at all. Scuppered by circumstance. Adelaide has a large population of Rugby of both codes fans, remember most of our forefathers were from England’s northern towns.

Ram’s would have definitely got some traction if they had stuck around. With the SL fiasco and the fact that the Crows won their two premierships in those very two years, it couldn’t have been worse timing. I’d like to see it tried again here.

Thanks for the update. Wasn’t the SANFL GF usually the week after the AFL GF?

I agree, whole squad should get a medal. It’s an immeasurable combination of all involved to meet that final goal of a premiership.

The AFL is a squad competition, so why do we only reward the team?

A couple of bad games can really affect your position on the ladder come finals. I wouldn’t say it makes home and away a farce but I don’t like it.

I am still a league fan, but it perplexes me how easy it is to take the best players from your club in the middle of the season. It’s not as though games around origin aren’t worth as many points as the other rounds? The concept quickly died in the AFL as the clubs, players (and die hard fans) wouldn’t accept it.

Too true, but money talks and SOO isn’t going anywhere, unfortunately. ? Trouble is it takes more than a training camp to make a “team”

Glad that sideshow is over. Back to the real premiership (minus the injured players). It’s all about the club in my book.

Glad that’s over. Now back to a proper home and away premiership with all players (except the injured ?) It’s all about the club to me.
