I wonder if Milford would stay if we made him Captain/Coach? It sounds crazy, but when you consider that McCrone is a co-captain, and he’s got no idea what he’s doing, why not?
Now being serious – on Ferguson possibly joining the Rorters – how the hell can they afford anyone that can play at all? They have SBW, Jennings, JW-H, the NSW halves, the classiest wingers in the game etc and IF any of these players were to join Canberra, they would be on about $750k per year. Maybe if you rip your contract up at one club, you HAVE to sign up with the wooden spooners. In the NFL or their baseball, the very well paid players seem to be able to get moved around like chess pieces.
Ferguson could have just waited till 1 Nov then signed with another club, but the dope couldn’t do that, so he didn’t comply with his contract and was sacked. How would Parra look with Carney, Dugan, Fergo? If the salary cap is evening out the talent across the teams, how do some sides have most of the best players from Australia, NZ or England?

If Stuart takes the Raiders job as expected (and I’m sure that a majority of Raiders fans DON’T want him), I hope he’s got his broom with him. He needs to get rid of McCrone, Buttriss, Robinson, Tilse, Tupou, Foster and Campo. Campo is way too slow these days. Robinson can’t tackle and he does almost nothing on the field. McCrone’s service at dummy half was a big improvement over what Buttriss delivers, but he kills our momentum a number of times each game with his terrible decisions. He tries so hard, but it’s not enough in first grade.
The refereeing was piss poor last night. While Sami’s action was very dumb, all he did was move a guy that was still moving about 2 metres towards the sideline. He didn’t actually go out, so the sin binning was a bit OTT. It looked like it should have been sin binned, but had it been a Storm player, would he have been? Croker being reported for hitting an arm that was holding him was plain embarrassing, and those responsible for it should be relieved of their jobs for a month or two.
I’m glad this year is over for my team.

It’s easy to say that Atlantic Jewel was a good bet last week. If she was back to her best, $1.40 was a good price, but after 70 weeks off, she could easily have been 5-1. She won like a champion, but from Kav’s reaction, it was a massive relief that she performed the way she did. I’ve backed PDL tomorrow but it’s very unusual for him to be in such a race if the Melb Cup is the main goal. It would be more understandable if the Cox Plate was the main aim.

As soon as he’s a player in a Sydney club, he will be reborn as an honourable citizen. There is a general hatred of Canberra by many Aussies, so anything that hurts “us” is good, surely. I’m not sure that the non-ACT Aussies realise that they elect the politicians that come to Canberra. The ACT people elect 2 Senators and 2 in the House of Reps – that’s 4. So don’t blame Canberra for us having your politicians here. The broadcasters say “Canberra decided to increase taxes for 10 million Aussies today” – it’s the Government that decides that stuff, the one that was elected by a majority of Aussies (except for the last election where more people voted for the Libs, but that’s another story).
So maybe nothing will happen. The kids we love to watch grow and improve their footy in the NYC will become monsters a few short years later. They will leave and will be rewarded for the poor behaviour they display. Could someone in the NRL think about what this does to the fans of the clubs that lose their “champions”? It’s like finding the love of your life in bed with your best mate. Not nice.

No way, why make a crap year even worse? This wouldn’t have happened if Dugan had been dealt with the way he should have been. He laid the template and now Blake has used the same tactic. Just stop going to work, get sacked, get picked up by another team for more money. Do some painting and have the Tele write a few redemption stories. Be a hero, make more money and some rep teams. We should be so proud!
If the NRL was strong with Dugan, an alternate precedent would have been set, and players wouldn’t be taking things into their own hands now. Blake is a brilliant player, but he needs to be de-registered for 2014. That will make players at least act as though they respect their clubs and fans. Please don’t believe the crap that will come out saying that Blake needs footy for his mental health. How many hard workers on $50k get bum deals? There are many, and all they can do is work harder, and hope they get another job. Why do we bother following a team? It hurts too much and it is very, very unfair. One is bought up to believe that if you do the right thing, you will be rewarded. Now, the worse you behave, the more you will gain. I will get some satisfaction when these idiots bugger up their new clubs. Barba’s teammates don’t want a bar of him at Canterbury. Blake has burnt his teammates at the Raiders. Ok, these guys can play footy, but do other clubs and their fans really want such people?

You don’t have to be too smart to see what’s wrong with the league, so bringing very smart people from outside the old-boys network is a really good idea. Players need to stick to the contracts they sign, or their decision to leave has to cost them something (and by something I mean a damn lot). Guys like Dugan, a poster child for bogans, are “entitled” to the degree that they can walk out of a club, have a month off, move down the coast on more money, then start trying again so that his natural ability gets him to represent NSW on $30k per game. Now who let him do that, thanks NRL! Now anyone who’s smarter than Dugan can see that they may as well play where they want and for more money. Being contracted doesn’t hinder you at all, if you have ability. How do the fans feel – absolutely sick. I haven’t watched any Saints games since he did his ankle because my motive for watching, which was to see him get hurt, has gone. When playing for the Raiders, Dugan was hurt in every 2nd tackle, but he’s a fair bit tougher now. He has more than 180 days before he puts the red and white jersey back on, how is he going to stay out of trouble for that long?

This doesn’t belong here, but is anyone else getting crapped off with a number of Sydney jockeys on horses in sprints that go straight to the front out of the barrier, then the jock takes hold and sits in behind the pace, only to run second to the horse they let lead? Other than Rain Affair, so many Sydney front runners have won in the past few weeks, so these guys should not be giving up the lead so easily unless up against a Karuta Queen or Chance Buy type of horse that will lead at all costs.
No doubt trainers are trying to teach their horses to relax and perform better in the long run, but when you have your last $50 on them and they run a really nice second, it’s no good to me.

Oikee – Earl was at the Panthers when he did the wrong thing. The NRL did bloody nothing when Dugan walked out (PLEASE don’t come back saying the Raiders sacked him – you try not turning up for work for a few weeks and publicly bag out the boss, you too will be sacked!) and since then, the young players with a lot of ability are just doing what they want. It’s like trying to get your 18 year old child to see that they have it really good at home, they won’t see it for a few years. The NRL has to de-register these big heads for a year or so, and see the behaviour improve.

It is funny how they signed the Barba contract so quickly though, without discussing the terms and conditions. For Barba, I suppose it’s not worth employing a lawyer to look over the contract anyway, as he’ll walk away from it again when all of his new teammates can’t stand to look at him anymore.

St George were a mighty club. Giving Dugan a second chance after those nasty Raiders sacked him for a couple of alcohol induced minor incidents (Dugan’s words), can’t have helped their image. Giving him a chance was actually good, but the constant crap from Price and Dugan that he is a model citizen is really galling. He had innumerable chances at the Raiders. While he didn’t grope anyone, he slipped out of the problem that he and Fergo had in Cronulla during SOO, leaving his mate to carry on like a lunatic. A good friend would have knocked him out and bundled him into a cab. Nice guy.
