Much more than a niche sport, but not the biggest.
A niche sport would be La X.
Very big in womens football in SE QLD, good junior club numbers in Sydney and Brisbane which are at a decent level besides all the hooplah about auskick, school etc that all codes persist in.

As i stated before it seems to be OK for soccer to target the female market but not the AFL – is this right ?.

No they were not – read chips article – the form states you must list all drugs ect within 7 days, within 7 days, within 7 days, within 7 days.
13 players were never drug tested that year, so what form were they meant to fill out, how did they lie ?
ASADA claims that there is no records so how did they match up the time frames within 7 days – they didn’t and couldn’t.
Not withstanding the point that they couldn’t even prove TB4 on site let alone injected.

CAS was a farce and increasingly a scripted unjust scalping.

Sorry mate, but the Murray Bushrangers primarily uses kids on the Victorian side of the border and some very close from the NSW side, does not use kids from around the Hume League, Wagga, Griffith, Leeton, Narrandera, Broken Hill and all the way up to West Wyalong, Ungarie even Canberra etc etc etc.
It is those kids who have missed out on the Victorian TAC pathways who are now being catered for – witness all the kids from Wagga, Canberra Leeton etc who have been drafted recently.

Footscray fans certainly have wavered, the club has nearly gone under several times, held together by a small band of tin rattlers.
A club with no success will whither on the vine, traditional Melbourne clubs are no more special than any other clubs in this regard.

Those regions close to the Murray on the NSW side were weak, because there was no TAC cup side in the area readying the players for the draft, GWS had once again turned the area around to producing good crops of draftees.

St Kilda has won one premiership in about 150 years, yet they have a membership base of over 40,000.

The game can mutate into any and many forms for O/S markets.
If memory serves me right it was O/S where the 9 or 10 a side game started on smaller grounds.
