I would agree, but as of last night 36,000 tickets sold, not sure whether ANZ STADIUM members are included or seperate.

Rugby has a very loyal old boy, old school, old tie, old business, old money, old power broking network.
it appears since your last post which apparently was 9 years ago has not changed you – you don’t know and you don’t understand, actually I should rephrase that – you refuse to understand.
Rugby with far less participants has far more power and influence than volleyball will ever have – ever, and probably more than soccer – ever.

I think rugby has quite a strong loyal grass roots base, pretty sure super rugby outrates the aleague

@sydneysider, i have just returned to Sydney after living over seas for the last 9 years, and quite frankly i cant believe the growth in the game from 9 years ago, they tell me that combined both Sydney Australian football clubs have combined over 71,000 members, 9 years ago when i left on a O/S posting the Swans had around 20,000 members.
Also amazing is the growth of the game, over 500 junior teams are running around in the Eastern and Northern suburbs of Sydney and the private schools comp has expanded to 42 school teams from nothing a couple of years ago.
9 years ago when i moved over seas nothing like this was happening, it is good to be back in old Sydney town, i love living around the best harbour in the world, but lets not make a fuss of where i live.

I love talking footy, this board always gets its facts wrong when it talks about the AFL or in general Australian football, i love to correct with real facts.
The general vibe on the soccer board is one of self loathing.
It is quite amusing.
My vibe is that AFL gets mentioned by posters like middy, punter, post hoc, fuss/nemesis and a few others 90% of the time before a poster like myself bothers.
Not sure whether soccer self loathing is bigger than the distaste for our indigenous game, its close.

Bit like my vibe that plenty of soccer people seem have a big chip on their shoulder about Australian football, actually that is not a vibe, that is a fact.

Just like AFL stands for Australian Football League, GWS stands for Greater Western Sydney, it is pretty simple.
I love this board, all you guys talk about is the big bad AFL, it drags me in every time. 🙂

What i do think is playing games in different places spreads your – to use some modern terminology “brand ”
The bulk of GWS members reside in Sydney, next year there will be more as they have increased membership numbers every year and have had a good year thus far this year.
Canberra fans in general do not support GWS, maybe the kids do, but they in general support a older traditional Melbourne club, but they get through GWS a fix of AFL football.

Bobbity bobbity, read please – I stated that the Sydney Australian football clubs that play in the Australian football League have over 71,000 members between them – that is true irrespective of where they live, let us see how many peeps turn up before being critical – do you have a link to your claims there bobbity ?

Actually over 71,000 members of the 2 Sydney Australian Football clubs, but I would imagine that they are looking at getting around 50-55k at the derby at ANZ
