I always laugh at “cricket becoming baseball” thing. A dull t20 has way more big hits than baseball and always has. People making that comparison have seem to have never actually watched baseball which is repetitive and dull

Cricket's long-standing battle between bat and ball: Is the IPL money-driven 'show' ruining the contest of the game?

Very good article. I took my wife (cricket novice)to a BBL game last year, she was getting bored with all the big hitting (became monotonous) but loved it when a spinner took a 5 for and changed the game. Its a massive mistake to think more 6s=more excitement. Its like anything in life, if it becomes routine you lose the interest. A balance with bat and ball is essential to longevity of t20.
Unfortunately I do not think the BCCI thinks about the long term health of cricket at all

Australia has never given England enough credit for the Bazball revolution. The magnitude of the improvement from when Stokes took over is hard to describe. They went from a complete shambles to world beaters almost instantly and did it playing the most exciting test cricket we have ever seen.

Its hard for us in Oz to accept as we have always considered our team to be the most aggressive but Bazball is in a different universe. This India win is just the latest in a long line of incredible wins and very few (but close) losses. Although the “saving test cricket” talk can seem pompous, Im glad that they are prioritising it and are actually making their games spectacular to watch.

England also play the most Test Cricket and seem invest the most time into it.
It may hurt but England deserve plenty of the credit for making Test Cricket great again.

Bazball won’t save Test cricket - but it’s time to give ‘whingeing Poms’ overdue credit for dramatic turnaround

Great article on a topic Ive been banging on about for years.
Cricket seems to be the worst sport when it comes to placing a premium on context and value of games/tournaments. Even the FIFA world cup would lose its lustre if played every year. It would also be a poorer tournament if they played 9 group games before a knockout!
Cricket was marred for years with endless ODI friendlies and now seems to have yearly “ICC Events”. The problem is that if there is a trophy every year then they all get diluted into the meaningless abyss. The long term effect is that the public lose interest in future tournaments and the sport is less supported as there are no stakes anymore.
I feel a big part of this is the seeming endless appetite of ICC (or BCCI in reality) of the short term profit at the expense of any long term health planning for the game.
Its very sad.
Best scenario would be a t20 WC every four years to eventually be the pinnacle for world tournaments like the FIFA WC is for soccer. It would create anticipation and there are enough countries for it now to be a proper WC.
ODI WC unfortunately is done and dusted.
Champions trophy has always been the poster boy for greed and actively damages our great game.
They both add nothing at this point except for a broadcast deal to add to the overflowing BCCI coffers.

What does the spirit of cricket and the World Cup have in common? They both mean nothing anymore

Points are valid but I think it misses the actual issue here which is the BCCI influence over the ICC. There are specific guidelines involving the use of fresh pitches for knockout games, there is also an ICC pitch consultant who was not informed of the change of pitch. The BCCI also recently ensured a reserve day for the Ind V Pak Asian Cup tournament which was not in the playing conditions.
If the BCCI is allowed to act with impunity in these areas the whole validity of ICC events comes into question.
If you think home teams can prepare certain pitches then fine, but you have to make it part of the playing conditions

Cooked wicket paranoia has gone too far - why should World Cup hosts lose a key privilege?
