5 teams? Isn’t it 10?
Every Australian Super club has a women’s team to fund as well.

CONFIRMED: Rebels CEO made redundant and coaches have contract cuts as hopes of Super Rugby survival fade

Welcome to Rugby! Where everything old is new again!

'Who wants to see more kicking?': Wallaby 'stoked' with law change that will help him run riot

“Sydney produce 70% of the players,”
70% of what players??
37% of the 2024 Australian Super Rugby squads are from QLD.
33% are from NSW.
Where does this mystical “70%” number come from?

Rugby News: RWC final TMO quits over 'torrent of abuse', Wallabies Grand Slam tour touted, Fiji lock facing jail

They happily (under Paddy O’Brien) allowed or even affirmed the abuse directed at Barnes, by NZ rugby supporters, NZ rugby officials, even the New Zealand PM at the time. Even went so far as to restrict Barnes from refereeing any NZ games, at the request of the NZRFU. Barnes was a rising star and he was cut down, because NZ rugby was unable to stop acting like a child.
The IRB should have told them to get stuffed, but they didn’t and with so many things (Rassie another example), they tacitly condone the abuse.

Rugby News: RWC final TMO quits over 'torrent of abuse', Wallabies Grand Slam tour touted, Fiji lock facing jail

Some of this is probably COVID related (not really sure) and then also I guess just purely bums-on-seats. Last time NZ played in either Sydney or Brisbane, was Oct 2020. Since then there’s only been one Aus v NZ test played in Australia each year, firstly Perth, then Docklands, then the MCG.

Rugby News: RWC final TMO quits over 'torrent of abuse', Wallabies Grand Slam tour touted, Fiji lock facing jail

New Zealand rugby supporters try to and are permitted to, destroy the career of a rugby official? If only we could have seen this coming. Like, if this had happened before, maybe something could have been done to prevent it. Hmmmmm, it does present a quandary.

Nice article.

Michael “Squeak” Moore?

The lessons Wallabies can take from 2013 as they search for the new missing Link

Interesting that Raynal considers the Bunker to be the problem, when I think most would consider his generally rubbish, incoherent and inconsistent referring, to be a bigger concern.

'That was a mistake': Top ref's blunt verdict on World Cup bunker call

“Who knows what that means, but I am betting a range of possibilities which might include a high interest rate”.
Aren’t they already paying 11% on a $40m loan with Ares, from May 2021?

Rugby News: RA hunting missing million after contract blunder, Suaalii worth 10x more than his deal, McKellar's big win

Ahh don’t worry about it Ian, look at it as levelling the scoreboard after Joubert gifted you the 2011 Final.

'Shame on the plodders': Hamish blasts RA 'boneheads' as Harvey Norman deal ends - but founder denies link to axing

rent free, in your head.

COMMENT: 'Best interests of the game'? Hamish's dummy spit proves RA was right to cut him loose

McKenzie wasn’t sacked, he resigned and I fully agreed with his decision. A certainly player was out of control, in need of proper discipline from the RA board. However, seeing the weak leadership from up top, and the cohort of players (Hooper included) that publicly backed this unacceptable behaviour, he did the up-right thing and left them to wallow in their own mess. That moment right there, should have been the alarm bell to Australian Rugby, that root-and-branch reform was needed within the corridors at Rugby Australia.

'What a shame': McLennan GONE as Rugby Australia name World Cup-winner chairman to bookend wild year

Does that list of “New Zealand’s Greatest Sporting Robberies”, include the match where with a clearly complicit Joubert, they stole the RWC from France in 2011?

Rugby News: World Rugby warns Kiwis' over 'robbery' whine, Barnes hits back at ABs, damning report into 'toxic' culture

“Petaia and others need to be dragged into accepting they cannot make fundamental errors and still be selected.”
Agree 100%, the players need to be held accountable for poor decision-making. For too long now, young Australian backs “with potential” seem to think they are playing touch-rugby down the local park. Way too many hail-mary plays that probably come off at club-level, but are really low % plays at SR level, or just used at completely the wrong time. A middle-tier of rugby would definitely help as it would still allow players the opportunity to be creative, while that extra speed of game also places more pressure on them to tighten up decision making, in an environment more forgiving than SR and Test level. What you don’t want is to completely knock that creativity out of them.

Talent, time and toughness: Why Australia's Super Rugby coaches won't run like Eddie

Early in the first half Steward caught the ball and then brought it back into his 22, after the resulting ruck, Mitchell kicked the ball out on the full. Sure, SA got the lineout throw, but about 35 mtrs from England’s line, rather than 15. That right there could have been a game changer, we’ll never know because anyone can pick apart any game and whine about specific points. In general though, through the course of the match, these things tend to even out.

'Concede points there, they're done': Moment England missed to bury Springboks as ghosts of 2019 return

I think that’s what the Six Nations is for.

The Wrap: There's a reason Boks and All Blacks are at the big boys' table - the rest have to earn their way onto it

Eddie didn’t “take a punt on youth”, that’s complete smoke&mirrors, that for some reason the media and everyone keeps accepting.
Below are the numbers for the matchday 23, on the day of the game.
………..
26th Nov, 2022: vs Wales, Won 39-34…..
Avg Age: 26 yrs, 3 mths…..
Avg Tests: 23.87……
.
24th Sept, 2023: vs Wales, Lost 40-6……
Avg Age: 26 yrs, 5 mths….
Avg Tests: 25.6…..
.
So he picked a very slightly older 23, with nearly 2 more tests per player and got hosed.
Just utterly rubbish selection, strategy and coaching.
.
If he’d selected the same 23 that played in Nov 2022, then in the RWC game…..
Avg Age: 27 yrs 1 months……
Avg Tests: 26.9

COMMENT: RA wanted a Pitbull to bring back some snarl to the Wallabies - Eddie rolled over for a tummy tickle

Can we please move on from this flat-out LIE that Eddie keeps telling about “Awwwhhh maaaate, I selected for youth mate. Building for 2027 world cup, eh mate”.

** If Eddie had selected the same squad DR picked for the Nov 2022 match (just for fun comparision)

Papworth? Who’s sole focus is the Shute Shield? Campaigning to shut down a 3rd-tier comp, to protect NSW club rugby? That guy?

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust... Eddie’s a goner, and McLennan’s a bust

I’ve said it before, this whole thing was about headlines, rivalry and niggle with NRL and getting rugby back in the papers, especially with the B&I Lions tour upcoming and the domestic RWC in the pipeline. Hamish was more interested in noise and obviously thought that Eddie couldn’t do any worse than Rennie. He clearly never considered that on such a short turnaround, Eddie would have to waste precious games this year tinkering, instead of building combinations. Rennie would have got us at least to the Qtrs and likely to a SF. Feel sorry for the players, a wasted RWC due to the stupidity of McLennan and Eddie.

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

Ha, seems that fan last year was 100% correct.
I’m just surprised (not surprised) that people couldn’t see this coming.
He did exactly the same to the Reds in 2007. Blew it up and then slunk away as soon as he got wind of another job.
Happens with every team he coaches, though he did it on steroids this time and with no initial sugar-hit.

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

Is it possible McLennan had a plan to blow up this RWC, in order to force through this centralised model?

Amazing how plans change when you start running out of money.

I’d rather listen to a fire alarm then listen to Sean “Darryl Eastlake” Maloney.

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

No, he needs to go today. Eddie is and only ever has been good for a sugar hit and that sugar-hit has very clearly failed to arrive. The longer EJ stays in the job, the more toxic the environment becomes. Andy Goode commented that he spoke to a number of the England lads after EJ was replaced and they were just mentally destroyed by the coach and the regime.
We should have lifted Scott Robertson back in 2019, but Raelene and Clyne knew better, apparently.
