Not exactly the same thing is it – they’re 2 distinct competitions and the superbowl is a meeting between the winners of each

Are more Super 15 local derbies a good thing?

The concept of a separate competition within a conference is a flawed concept – the Australian conference isn’t a national competition – you run the risk trying to devalue the ultimate prize

Are more Super 15 local derbies a good thing?

This is something I mentioned last week – dire derby games could impact on viewing and crowd numbers – I’m fairly sure there won’t be too many tuning in from overseas – unless the Reds continue in the same vain next year.

The NZ and SA derbies do offer better viewing – however I’m also wondering what may happen next year across the ditch – world cup later in the year and the nzrfu has a far bigger say in their franchaises – I can certainly see Henry quietly looking at the increase in derby matches as numerous rounds of the old possibles v probables AB trail games – I’m not saying the quality won’t deminish – but certainly there’s a good possibility that players may be trailled in varying positions in order to benefit the final AB squad selections

“has never kicked a ball in an NRL match.”

I was thinking exactly that point the other day – the kicking skills of AFL players is akin to that of a soccer player – none of Inglis, Slater or Folau have shown they possess the ability to do anything other than welly the leather off it down field – and that’s being generous … Hunt is a little bit better – but would still need massive work … can’t see this happening – or if it does is nothing but a gimmick

Folau could shock with AFL move

May I just concur with the first 8 posts on here – this piece is utter, utter rubbish

SANZAR get it wrong with Giteau fine

Yeah but they’ve got an out in the fact that they’re not the Victorian Rebels – does the city of Melbourne have separate colours

Storm and Rebels are in the Melbourne wars together

This is a continuation of the theme of how big a role the media now play in the subsquent public outcry following a game … you’ve only got to come onto this site after a test match that Australia have lost and read comments that mirror the innane, substandard and blatently biased ramblings of the foxsports commentators

Dropping Steve Walsh opens up other problems

Amazing – this is the second national columnist (Growden’s had a go as well this morning) who think:

A. they know the rulebook better than the refs
B. Think it’s ok for Giteau to mouth off in public regarding the refs performance last week and imply that he shouldn’t have been sanctioned.

Further it’s also implied in this piece that it’s ok for players to tell the ref that they think their decisions during the game are “b.s” … sure Walsh got the Hollies decision wrong – that in itself is not an unusual occurrence during a game, refs often get minor decisions wrong, but I’d love for a poll to be taken of all the refs globally to see what their decision would have been once a player responds like Hollies did.

JB above is 100% correct in what he implies – player power in Australian rugby is far too ingrained and none more so at the Brumbies – Deans has started weeding it out and the Reds have now provided him with a great oopportunity to go further than he possibly thought he could this time last year

Does anyone know what the sums are for the Rebels re crowd numbers – do they have a breakeven point ?…

it’s impossible to see the team being anywhere near as good as what the Storm have built up illegally over the last 5+ years – during that time Melbourne have had the very best rugby league team in the world to go and watch and what’s their average crowd number – 10,000 -12,000 ? …. will that be a sustainable figure for the Rebels to succeed … and that’s assuming they they start winning and winning consistently – if they stutter – like all expansion teams have done – crowds of under 10,000 are more likely to be the norm

Also – have they announced the team colours ? – surely they’re not going to go Blue – the most over used colour in super rugby

Storm and Rebels are in the Melbourne wars together

This may have been almost based in fact if the NRL didn’t have the Warriors playing in their competition and the S15 has severely watered down their international aspect …

Storm and Rebels are in the Melbourne wars together

Well didn’t take long to move into the denial phase has it …. form the comments over the weekend neither the players, coach or fans can see why this has happened … and then we have Gould – a terrible attack on the games administrators – and clearly he doesn’t get it either …. Patrick Smith in The Aussie sums it very well ..

Where to from here for Storm and salary cap?

This weekend’s game between the Brumbies and Reds will be interesting on another level as well … if the Brumbies drag down the quality of the contest to the depths we saw last weekend in Sydney and considering some of the other dire “derby” games this year – do we have a pointer to what the the new S15 package might look like ?

everyone seems to be wetting themselves over this great new dawn we’re going to have next year – but on the whole the games involving 2 aussie teams over the last few seasons has thrown up a fair amount of dross … will the excitment levels and quality of what’s occurred in Brisbane over the last 2 weeks go missing next year and have an unforeseen negative impact on rugby here

In a Super season, how are the Aussie teams faring?

yeah but Brett – that’s perhaps how they were able to glide through the cracks for so long – they didn’t really bring in big names – just retained most of those they had developed – bringing in high earners from other clubs whilst also retaining the stable they had would certainly have had the alarm bells ringing

There are so many questions around this Storm scandal

seeing the club has been stripped of their 2 premierships – what of the individual awards – as the 2 games are now voided I assume the players hand back their rings and Inglis and Slater are stripped of the Clive Churchill medals as well

There are so many questions around this Storm scandal

The NRL just keep coming up with new ways to undermine their season – what’s this about 3rd or 4th in a row where things have gone pear shaped

Storm brewing as spoon markets suspended
