I'm a classic dimwit but I enjoy the analysis here by people much smarter than myself. Technically I barrack for Carlton, but they've managed to massively disappoint all my life.

This is really good! I happened to be talking with my girlfriend who’s a dogs supporter about the player choices. We don’t get the fetish Bevo has with mid twenties VFL players and his eagerness to plug them in the team regardless of performance. Also, playing Mitch Hannon in defence returning from concussion and a single VFL game was hardly coaching “sophistication”.

'Bevoball' is no longer cutting the mustard out west

These are all good questions Macca.
I don’t really have any answers, only more questions.

I think what King and others are trying to highlight is that from the outside looking in, Carlton’s defence is confusing because they get scored against in similar ways and it doesn’t appear Teague and the rest are doing much about it.

You’ve said in other comments that it’s “better to be a high scoring team that needs to tidy up defensively than a team that can’t score.”
I believe I see where you’re coming from, but if this is something that is “reasonably easily fixed”, then why not address it?

It’s true that from an offensive point of view they did well. But technically they play in the defensive half of the ground. At some stage the comments by David King about who the hell deals with Liam Ryan start making anyone doubt the use of so many “defenders” who won’t defend.

Does a lack of defence concern you at all?
And where did you think Carlton would be this year?

Even as a Carlton supporter, I feel for O’Meara. I don’t see how he could have protected himself in any way. If he could have, I’d understand how Plowman could have gotten off.
I hope the O’Meara recovers as well as he can.
