Cracking test and so stoked for Cummins and the team. There is so much to like about the way they go about things. In the last 2 games they have nearly all brought something special and Marnus and Smith are due.
Carey vs Bairstow is an interesting one. Carey’s glovework is well ahead but I feel he could offer more with the bat. Bairstow threatens 100s while Carey threatens 50s at the moment. A lot of his dismissals seem to come after near misses and then a repeat of the shot that has nearly brought him undone. The good thing is that he can improve with that. As can Cam Green with the bat.
This series should be a cracker. Just hope the rain stays away.

Every player rated from the first Ashes Test: Awesome Uzzy, ridiculous Root as Aussie twin towers crumble

Hynes missed the tackle but he’s just spent 65 minutes on the bench before being put out on the field, out of position. He gets picked because he’s in red-hot form but dopey old Freddie is clueless about what to do with him. He’s gone in with the same fuzzy logic as game 1 last year (pick the Panthers players, they are good together) with the same result.

ANALYSIS: Queensland's outside backs won them the game - because Brad Fittler does not learn

Exactly. A coach/commentator in each box is tailor made for 9. Comments from each, in both first and second halves to supplement the coverage. Access to both pre and post. Slater wipes the floor with Freddie though. Its man vs boy in terms of tactical smarts.
I wonder if Slater would continue with the mid-game chats if Freddie is no longer coach. I don’t think either of them would enjoy doing it.

“Had success there” (in 2015).
8 years ago! That’s a mighty generous line of credit he’s been given there. I’d have said the woeful form he showed 4 years ago and most recently in India was far more relevant.
Delusional thinking or BS justification. Can’t figure out which.

Ashes Scout: Warner to play ‘significant’ role - McDonald, Marsh injury adds to Neser push, Anderson confident

The players can also help each other. You’d have thought they’d talk at the crease when the new guy comes out. Marnus looked like he did to Renshaw which was good to see. Renshaw look terrified whereas Carey was all smiles and laughter when Lyon came out. What on earth was going on there? Entire series being squandered and time for a bit of a giggle in the middle??? There is plenty of experience and leadership within the group. Just baffling that none of them could come up with a better plan to score 200+ runs.

FLEM’S VERDICT: Shellshocked … panicked - Aussie collapse like watching a car crash in slow motion

Like elite honesty? That wouldn’t help

'Soft, reckless, way over the edge': Greats savage sweep-happy Aussies' disaster, Warner's unlucky break - Talking Points

Every bloody missed sweep went under the bat. Blind Freddie could have told you it was the wrong shot for the conditions. Smith, Carey and Cummins all missed it by a mile. Marnus’ wicket, while not reckless, was poor defence, considering that it has kept low since day 1.
A golden opportunity to square the series went down the toilet.

'Soft, reckless, way over the edge': Greats savage sweep-happy Aussies' disaster, Warner's unlucky break - Talking Points

Langer is the very bottom of the barrel. Blatently biased / one-eyed. Of every 10 pieces of commentary, 8 will be in reference to the Australian side. Horribly prone to hyperbole. 8 out of 10 sentences seem to include the words “absolutely”. And wierd, jingoistic cliches , obvious sentiments that are dressed up as insights. Like “It’s the most amazing feeling the world to score a test match hundred. I heard him say it twice this summer.
I get it that he’s a passionately patriotic. Not a bad thing but it precludes him the ability to do the job properly to all but the one-eyed, unenlightened viewers.

Hey, Hey it’s Hayden: Former opener’s boorish commentary style from a bygone era should stay there

He’ll still be miserable but won’t be on the bandwagon. He’ll be on the other side of the ditch, going by his Once Were Warriors inspired nickname.
(Or he’ll be miserable, living over here)

ANALYSIS: In just 30 minutes Eddie Jones managed what Castle and Rennie couldn't in three years

The Aussie scrum is in pretty good shape. Especially compared to where we were 10-15 years ago. (uncontested scrums due to props being sin-binned for being unable to compete).
They usually are close to parity with the top-tier teams. Definitely a solid enough of a platform, from which to attack.

ANALYSIS: In just 30 minutes Eddie Jones managed what Castle and Rennie couldn't in three years

He is literally the only one to use the word hate. Maintaining that the media have been using it: both from him and the players.
It’s absolute crap and typical of the hyperbole that constantly comes out of his mouth. Nowhere was it reported that there was hate and he wants us to believe his heart is literally broken?
The media revs it up because he keeps saying this sort of crap in every podcast interview he does. If he actually had the sense to say no more, there would be zero to report on and we would have all moved on months ago.

'I don’t think I’ll coach again': Langer reveals fallout from exit 'literally broke my heart'

So why is Langer maintaining that there was a narrative that he hated his players if nobody thinks that? It wasn’t a media spun thing either. He seems intent on not moving forward but rehashing an overly dramatic version of things.

'I don’t think I’ll coach again': Langer reveals fallout from exit 'literally broke my heart'

FFS. He invents his own narrative about mutual hate between the players and him and says it literally broke his heart. Never mind the fact that everyone has moved on.
And there is a legion who say that woke, soft players couldn’t handle his toughness. 😂
He is either nuts to believe himself or dedicating himself to manipulation of the media for public sympathy in a pathetic way. I can’t figure out which.

'I don’t think I’ll coach again': Langer reveals fallout from exit 'literally broke my heart'

He is woeful, but then again, fits in well with his team at channel 7. Twice this summer, I heard him inform the viewers with “it’s the most AMAZING feeling, to score a TEST match hundred” like it was some sort of unique insight. Every 2nd thing he says is hyperbole or cliche.
Punter, whilst being gangsta-level scathing at times offers decent insight. He seems to save the show.

'I don’t think I’ll coach again': Langer reveals fallout from exit 'literally broke my heart'

Couldn’t understand why there were 2 spinners (1 part time) with the 2nd new ball after only 7 overs. And 5 overs left in the day. Surely you’d have your quicks having a blast in the final session under lights.

The atmosphere on the pitch seems overly casual. Lots of banter, chat and laughter. As if it’s a practice game.

Brathwaite blunders: Terrible tactics put Windies in a spin by failing to go for Aussies’ jugular

Hoping Warner doesn’t go large in Adelaide and buy himself a year-long pass. Definitely shouldn’t be going to England, least of all for the selfish reason of wanting to correct his prior failings. He was hopeless there in 2019. Just couldn’t play the swinging Duke.

First Test Talking Points: Aussies primed for redemption mission, Warner running out of time, Lyon one up on Warne

Langer unloads on Cummins: 'What is brutal is I’m hearing it behind my back through the media'

Spot on Nudge. “Loves getting honest feedback”, and stares daggers and says a sarcastic “Righto” to the person giving it to him. The same coach who flogged the team in an unscheduled fitness session the morning he found out he was being paid less than the players for being a part of “The Test” series. Same coach who blew up at his player for burning a review.
So much evidence of his unsuitability for the role in that doco and he is still moaning and playing the victim.

Langer unloads on Cummins: 'What is brutal is I’m hearing it behind my back through the media'

Totally! We seem incapable of scoring from 5m out on our own throw. Every top side can do it 2 out of 5 times I reckon. We are flat out getting the throw in straight when the opportunity for a 5 pointer is there.

Ex-Wallaby reveals northern hemisphere tactic Aussies can't handle, Rennie says loss 'hurts everyone'

Ive even seen Colin Meads name bought up. Really looks like Aussies move on quickly eh!
Only to the precious lil’ Kiwi who, in all his sanctimony, has decided not to let his kids play rugby because of Darcy Swain.
Just trying to help his perspective.

The can also detect cynicism in the blink of an eye at 30 paces.

Definitely reckless, probably done in anger following a neck roll from Whitelock and in from the side. Probably worthy of 2 weeks, maybe more. But he jumped to his feet and speared into the man in a second. Hard to think he was able to target the knee. Hopefully the judiciary don’t based their decision on a slo-mo.

Rugby News: SANZAAR make Swain call after review, ABs angry at Tupaea injury, Foley's true impact revealed

The ref is and was incompetent. The whole thing should never have revolved around a poorly communicated warning. Time off until the ball is kicked. Then you don’t get the “I’m not being taken seriously” feeling that you say the ref has and is clearly evident in his post match comments. Unprecedented decision based on feelings / emotions. The last thing the game needs.

The Aussies forwards were partly to blame for not being ready. Foley was waiting for them. The Kiwi forwards huddled too on their way to the last line out but nobody mentions that. Time wasting or just par for the course?
The rest was just a fk up and horrible advertisement for the game.

Anyway, bored of typing same stuff over and over. Go the Wallabies at EP and let’s hope Raynal is never left in charge again.

Rugby news: Ref poked furious White and was caught in a fib in post-game clash, Boks deny cocaine rumours

Agreed with all points. Trouble with the kick was, was that nobody was calm, except for maybe the Aussie forwards. They were oblivious which was a separate issue. ABs were screaming at the ref and Aussie outside backs were screaming at Foley. Ref definitely wasn’t calm or he’d have stopped the clock instead of issuing poorly communicated ultimatums. Very hard for Foley to be calm with all that going on and the game in the balance.

As far as Swain goes, it seemed reckless and reactionary. When watched at real-time speed, he didn’t seem to have time to aim at a knee joint so in my opinion, less malicious than it appeared to be. He seems to be getting baited far too easily though. 4-6 week spell might help him sort that issue out.

WILL GENIA: 'Looked intentional' - Wallabies can't justify Swain stance, Foley shows he belongs in RWC chat

It’s a sports forum and this is a rugby thread. Just a response to the guy who says us Aussies are “reaching so hard” right after saying “no child of mine….”.
