I once wondered if I would ever see Ireland beat the All Blacks in my lifetime. My father never did.

Thanks JD. It would be bittersweet! 😂

The hurts real Patrick! If you are tarred and feathered, I’ll send you a case of Guinness to make up for it! 😁

Thanks mzilikazi for the kind comments.. Some lovely memories there for you. Coaching that team to win the Ulster schools cup must have been brilliant! South Africa Next week? Mouth watering!

Thanks FM! To see the joy when Portugal got their try! To see the joy when any of the other nations score! Yes, there will be tears of sorrow and joy! The Yin and Yang of life! May it never end!

Great article thank you! You write well and hope to see more of your writing here. If Ireland win, I will need a month’s leave from work to celebrate. 😁
10 tournaments in it’s vital that France or Ireland wins the World Cup for the game to reach next level
Agreed! I think The Roar is awesome but there are many nationalities now reading it because it is one of the best Sport journals I have come across, ergo we need to see more articles like this, more articles on the other teams. If not, it may become an echo chamber all about Australia and New Zealand. I get that it’s an Aussie site but cater too to the other teams and their fans. Make the Roar louder! Good article @Jacobbrown
Is 2023 the year Ireland break the chokehold and become World Cup champions?
Man – how’s he going to feel when he is a world Cup winner in 2023? And scores the try that wins the final? Living the dream!

Strange everyone talking about a future men’s world cup in the comments. Anyway – this game will be a game of two halves. The winning team will get the ball across the white line legally more times.
This is the Matildas' biggest game yet. Can they hold their nerve?
Nope. Ireland will field their strongest team. Although out of the tournament, the Irish will be going for the win.
Kerr delivers good news to embattled coach for do-or-die World Cup clash
An Irish goal late in injury time. That will send the 25,000 Irish in the crowd mad! 😛
Matildas vs Republic of Ireland: Match preview, who wins and why
Good analysis Stuart. If it’s nil all at half time, then I think it could be a nail biter. The Irish love the underdog tag and we don’t like to leave a party early! Wonderful to see over 80,000 at the game. With 4,000 Irish fans making the trip down under and with the sizeable Irish community in Sydney I wouldn’t be surprised to see about 25,000 Irish fans in the stadium. This will make for a spectacular atmosphere. Gold and green, white and orange all over the stadium! It’s one all for me. But I am a little biased. COYGIG!
Matildas vs Republic of Ireland: Match preview, who wins and why
At least it was entertaining. The “pocket” of Argentinian fans sounded like a lot more than 2000 people. The Aussie crowd were as tame as fans watching a chess match. Those “Try time” signs handed to fans are ridiculous. As if everyone watching on TV need to see them. The music and flashing lights between every set of play is a joke. It’s not basketball. Hearing “Sweet Chariots” or “Fields of Athenry” being sung with passion can lift teams. Having a passionate crowd can lift teams. Where is or what is our song? “Waltzing Matilda” doesn’t rouse! Maybe “Aero plane jelly”? The National Anthem rarely stirs up emotion! The music before the singing starts is like a prelude to a wedding song. The current team lacks passion. The passion every player should have when they put on that golden shirt. But with SANTOS writ large on the back. As David Pocock said “I was always proud to represent my country. As a rugby player, that’s what you dream of. It’s been difficult to watch a partnership emerge with Santos. “I really think fossil fuel sponsorship is the new cigarette sponsorship, where they are advertising a product that we now know is destroying our home planet and our futures.”

Well, here’s what I think will happen now. Ireland will beat Scotland by 15, hammer England and go on to win the World Cup. It’s the era of the All Greens.

😂 Thanks Tooly. I once tried to read Ulysses by Joyce and gave up after about 4 pages. If Ireland win the world cup I will try and read it all!
