Considering the number of terrible intercepts that Toomua throws each year you are being a bit tough on Paisami. I thought he was unlucky, Moungas speed is incredible .

Why Paisami isn't to blame for Mo'unga’s Bledisloe intercept

You cannot possibly want Toomua to start any test match any more. He has always been slow in the feet but he is now also slow in the head. Bring him on occasionally after 60 minutes when everyone is a bit tired, but against a fresh team he is not good enough.

What just happened? The final 18 minutes of Bledisloe Game 1

As an Aussie who hates being beaten by the All Blacks I can tell you they are hated by me at the end of every loss , just like West says. However I hate Aaron Smith , but I love his rugby. I hate Brodie , but I want him in my side. I hate Richie but he is a joy to watch. I hate Reece , but apart from Cheslin he is the best winger in the world. I hate Dane,s grubbiness, but wouldn’t it be great to have someone just like him in the Wallabies. I could go on & on but lets face it our hate is tinged with love.

'Tortured souls': Why everybody loves to hate the All Blacks

I believe that was the same game he was suspended for hits on Leigh Matthews, Chris Langford, Gary Ayres & Chris Mears.

I think you have to include Mark Jackson in this list, just for his crazy eyes!

Farewell to Marcelo Campo, a great Puma and a friend

Jacko I was very pessimistic over the last few years , and I am sorry , but I dont care what murdoch press as to say about rugby . I know what I did not like over recent years and the game and the product has improved. In my group of friends we all agree. I can only speak of my experience . I f you have a different view that is fine but you seem to be unhappy that I am happy . All the best.

Super Rugby AU thrashes the Trans-Tasman competition in rugby's ratings war

They started watching because the product on offer was much better than previous years. It was better rugby except for the Waratahs, and even they managed to play some good attacking rugby at times. There is plenty of money for rugby if you have good comps. So we do now have FTA and we do have World cups & lions tours coming up so there will be more money. But not if you play too many games against non Aussie teams. Crowds were up, Stan was way cheaper than Fox and more popular, and TV ratings were up. I think you see a very half empty glass

You have to remember how bad we were in the past, plenty of my mates got right into the AU comp & we even got a couple of NRL fans watching. Look for the sixth team in
SA with a bit of Govt money, or sneak in a guest NZ team for the players who miss out on SR NZ. Just tossing ideas.

Hard to disagree with your logic, but an Australia centred comp will definitely give us a chance to grow slowly back into a quality rugby nation.

If you get better tv ratings you should be able to attract sponsors and slowly increase player payments bringing them back from overseas. Even the WA model of bringing older less valuable players with their wealth of experience could work well in the long term. There is no quick fix. A local super rugby comp with 6 teams and one Free to air game each week will grow the supporter base.

Love the idea of a 6 team AU competition. We have to find a way to get talented players back from Europe but an Aussie product that people watch is a must for aus rugby survival. Just a side note – did you see that the move from S Africa to Europe resulted in their best side being absolutely flogged by an ITALIAN rugby team in the final! Maybe we need to stop looking at NZ & start worrying about the improvement in European rugby standards.

I am not sure if this would help, but if a player does a one on one legs tackle resulting in the attacking player hitting the ground quickly, currently the referees demand a quick release. If you were to change the rule to make that a dominant tackle then the tackler could take a couple of seconds to let go , legally slowing down the play the ball. This might result in less concussions & bring back the great tacklers of the past like Ron Coote & Steve Mortimer. I used to love to see that kind of defence in the past.

How can we stop all the floggings we have created?

I cannot fathom why people get stressed so quickly. I really enjoyed the style of rugby and the development of Australian rugby this year. Should we change the Trans tasman part – yes! Should we improve our coaching & administration ? Yes! Should we improve our marketing & junior programs ? Yes! Should we reduce the super rugby AU teams after one season ? NO !!! Give yourselves a break people, this year was a good start. It was never going to get us up to NZ level in one year, but the improvement in skill & style from earlier years ( apart from the waratahs) was clear. Lets all take a dep breath & brick by brick build up to higher levels.

Consolidate to survive: Five teams must become four if Super Rugby is to survive

The Broncos are wrong in many ways, but moving Pangai on is the right call. He is a player who plays always for himself , not the team. He is lazy in defence & his good runs rarely lead to results. Look at the contrast with good backrowers – Cordner, Yeo, Capewell, Crichton & esp Murray. They act with the team in mind. Their defence & Attack is looking to protect & promote the next play , not just their own stats. There is a place for the player that is self interested (think Turbo, Latrell, Tedesco) but they play fullback, not second row.

Brisbane's recruitment strategy is all wrong and the proof is on the field

How about you all go off to a religious discussion site , the rest of us are more interested in Rugby

Pro14, South African rugby clubs form United Rugby Championship

NZ referees are going to have to start getting harder on high tackles. They are not doing their players any favours by being lenient. I can tell you in the Northern hemisphere or the World Cup he is Red carded every time. Edict from world Rugby is not going away.

"He's a very lucky man": Should Tyrel Lomax have been red-carded for this high hit?

It is NOT controversial. The commentators made it controversial. the tackle is EXACTLY the type that Rugby has decided must be stamped out. A rising tackle that results in the head of the tackled player being hit. If the tackler does this type of tackle he MUST ensure the tacklers head is not impacted. Automatic yellow card. Red card if with force. I do not care what Swain thinks , but he could at least know the rules if he is going to publicly comment.

'That's dead set wrong': Everyone gobsmacked as Chief cops farcical yellow card

Righto, lets explain why the TMO had no choice . World rugby has an edict that the tackler is responsible to protect the head of the tackled player. There will be accidents . However if the tackler does a rising tackle( ie starts low & goes up) and he contacts the head of the tackled player he will be yellow carded. If he does it with force, he will be red carded. Now can we please get commentators who know the rules so we do not continue to drive a negative response to head protection. In this game there were a lot of tackles but only 2 resulted in TMO intervention. If players & referees in the southern hemisphere do not understand this , then expect a large number of cards in the world cup when Northern refs get going.

Chiefs consign Waratahs to winless season

Well, I am a fair weather supporter of rugby, so JC,s message is clearly for me. The Aussie rugby of 2021 is streets ahead of 2019 ( the last year of NZ v Aus games) . The games are more entertaining, free to air on TV , & getting larger crowds. When I watch the games I no longer despair at the lack of innovation or poor skills by the Au sides but there is still room for big improvement. All in all the trajectory is good. So why when someone puts an optimistic post on this site do 3 gurus go negative. You are actually not required to be negative on every post, sometimes you can just leave it alone. Thanks JC I will certainly try to do my bit to support my team.(Waratahs)

What if Australian rugby’s biggest problem is...us?

Measuring the way you play the game is “utter bollocks”??
Pretty sad indictment of your state of mind Tim. If it is universal then it is hard to believe we are advancing as a society.

You don't have to like him, but you do have to admit Cameron Smith is rugby league's greatest ever

Here is the big difference. You can build a game plan around Thor. AAA is good, but Thor is better.

The great tighthead prop debate, Part 2: Triple-A versus Tongan Thor

Apart from the illegal hit, Swinton was the worst NSW forward on the paddock against the rebels. He drifts in and out of games and does not consistently play his role. Commentators get excited about his “abrasive edge” but do not watch the laziness of his play. The receiving kickoff where he is pushed on top of the catcher and is penalised showed a complete lack of commitment to the moment.

Three talking points from Super Rugby AU Round 9

This weekend I watched 3 enjoyable Australian rugby games. In all cases the players looked like they were enjoying the game, the spectators were enjoying the game and the ball movement and skills were all at a good standard. The only weakness was defence skills and frequently weird options attempted, but that did not detract from the spectacle. None of the teams I wanted to win got over the line. (Randwick, Rebels , Force), but I was very satisfied by the time I spent watching rugby. This year is a beginning. We may not have household names yet , but they are coming. We may be 3-4 years away from a quality group of consistently high standard players, but there is a freshness & zest in the super rugby this year that has been missing for a decade.
I am very optimistic that if we retain a domestic super rugby format that leads into international games the game will grow. It is still the game they play in heaven 😊

The Wrap: It’s time for rugby’s loose ends to start to come together
